BG3 Classes and Races
You can get a good overview of all the classes, subclasses, races and subraces in the following two articles for BG3:
What to Expect from the BG3 Builds
Each BG3 Build has everything you need to create the best possible build with your character. We also made sure to include beginner gear that you can get in Act 1 and early Act 2 and advanced gear setups for late Act 2 and Act 3.
Each Build gives you a brief explanation of how the BG3 class plays. Each of the classes or subclasses often have a certain mechanic that you need to be aware of to make the most out of your character. Each build goes in detail through the Character Creation process so you won’t pick anything wrong.
The Builds also take you through each of the levels 1-12. You will always know what to pick. You can slightly deviate from our recommendations if you want to experiment. But make sure not to do that too often unless you understand how the BG3 Build works. Otherwise, the build might not function correctly anymore.
Towards the end of each build guide, we also give you some extra tips and tricks and remind you of the most important aspects. Lastly, some builds have very overpowered mechanics, which we also explain at the end of the build guide!
How to change my Class in BG3
BG3 gives you a lot of freedom in your playthrough. You can always change your class whenever you want. Don’t feel like playing the Druid class anymore after Act 1? No problem, go to the camp and swap to something like the Barbarian class. You can repeat this as many times as you want.
Early in Act 1, you will meet Withers, who will join your camp. Talk to him and you can change your class anytime for a 100g.
How to change the Companions Class in BG3?
You can also change the default class of your Companion. That way you can play how you want and prepare the best Companion for your playthrough. Each of the Companions has a default class that will make most sense if you want to hear their story.
But you can also go to Withers with a Companion and change to whatever class you want. We also have in-depth guides on the Best BG3 Companion Builds and how to get them.

Of course, you can use one of the BG3 Builds below that you can follow without thinking too much on your own. You can still make adjustments on your own, you don’t have to follow the build exactly. The builds will still work even if you make adjustments. For example, you might want a specific race to go along with a build below. Even if the race isn’t recommended the BG3 build will still perfectly work.
Baldur’s Gate 3 has plenty of build variations thanks to the huge variety of classes, subclasses, races, and subraces. Every playthrough will end up differently because depending on what you pick you will get new options on how to handle story dialogue, combat, and other things.
