Introduction

Welcome to the Magicka Dragonknight Build PvE “Valakas” for Elder Scrolls Online. Make sure to bookmark the link as I will keep updating the build for each new Update of ESO. The “Valakas” build is made for PvE Trials, Dungeons & Maelstrom Arena.

Magicka Dragonknights unleash their maximum damage potential in melee range. They both have really strong Single Target and AoE damage output. Due to being melee we also get more incoming damage as ranged setups, but this is not that big of a deal because we have a shield at our disposal which makes survival a lot easier. Resource management is also pretty nice as long as we use Flame Lash and off-balance is present on the enemy boss, because then the Power Lash will have a cost of zero. We will also use a Shock staff on our back bar, this is especially helpful in trash fights. Heavy Shock Attacks deal a ton of damage and restore a lot of magicka in the same time, plus we can stay slightly outside of the trashmobs so we do not get hit all the time!

  • High single target (ST) damage
  • Insane melee damage
  • High area of effect (AoE) Damage
  • Good sustain
  • Magicka Shields
  • Made for Trials, Dungeons & Maelstrom Arena

Resource Management

Magicka Dragonknights can have very good sustain, but you really need to make sure that Off-Balance is present in your group. Because we are using Flame Lash, which will have zero cost when the enemy is set off balance. Magicka Damage and Magicka Return Enchantment also helps a bit with sustain. Now the last big thing that you can choose on your own to tweak your sustain, Magicka Recovery Glyphs. I felt I reached good sustain with 1 Recovery Glyphs. However, if you think your sustain is still not where you would like it to be, then try with  two Magicka Recovery Glyphs and then you should definitely be good to go. Heavy Attacks are also a great tool to restore resources, while we not really need them for this build, if you really get into a situation where you dry out, use one or two heavy attacks!

  • Flame Lash Morph & Off balance on enemies
  • Damage/ Return Magicka Enchantment
  • Magicka Recovery Glyph
  • Heavy Attacks

Trials & Dungeons Setup

*Spell Power Potion, Weapon dmg Enchantment and Burning Spellweave Proc was active, when I took the screenshot. Also Only had Blue Burning Spellweave Necklace.

Gear

Gear Setup

There is a few combos that work great, most important is that you are using an Infused Fire Enchant on the frontbar and a Spelldmg Enchant Nirnhoned Shock Staff on the backbar. The Fire Enchantment will give us a ton of damage and also proc the Burning Status Effect which deals a ton of extra damage.

  • Maelstrom Staff? You could run a Maelstrom Staff. However, as we only weapon swap every 16 seconds, I am not sure if its really that beneficial with the current setup.
  • Julianos and Burning Spellweave give an overall really good Crit and Spelldamage value. I tested Silks of the Sun but it did not perform better as Julianos.
  • Why Shock Staff backbar? We use this for trashfights, Shock Heavy Attacks deal a ton of damage and restore magicka at the same time.

Skills

  • Standard vs Destro Ultimate: Basically, in fights where there are a lot of mobs present, I prefer using Destro Ultimate because it allows us to have way more burst damage over Standard. This is a personal preference, if you prefer Standard, use it.
  • Molten Armaments: If you do not want to use Spellpower Potions because they are expensive, then you can use Molten Armaments.
  • Volatile Armor? You can use this to gain some more resistances and healing received. If you do not want it you can replace it with Inner Light.
  • Destructive Clench? You could run Clench on the place where Volatile Armor is, so you could put Standard of Might on the backbar and Shooting Star on the frontbar. (Ancient Knowledge passive Destruction Staff)

You will need the following passives:
Ardent Flame, Draconic Power, Earthen Heart, Light Armor, Heavy Armor (Juggernaut Passive), Destruction Staff, Racial, Vampire (optional), Undaunted, Mages Guild, Alchemy: Medicinal Use

I recommend being a Vampire for the extra 10% Magicka and Stamina recovery!

Rotation & Skeleton Parse

With this rotation, with having Blockade of Fire on the frontbar, we only have to weapon swap every 16 seconds.

Activate Flames of Oblivion before you engage in the fight. The Rotation is slightly simplified as we reapply Engulfing Flames and Burning Embers about 2 seconds before they run out. If you want you can also just roll with the DoT Trackers and reapply the DoTs when they run out.

Flames of Oblivion > Rearming Trap > Light Attack > Eruption > Weapon Swap
Engulfing Flames > Light Attack > Blockade of Fire > Light Attack > Burning Embers > Light Attack > Flame Lash > Light Attack > Flame Lash > Light Attack > Flame Lash > Light Attack > Flame Lash > Light Attack > Flame Lash > Light Attack > Blockade of Fire > Light Attack > Flame Lash > Light Attack > Flame Lash > Light Attack > Engulfing Flames > Light Attack > Burning Embers > Restart

Skills

  • Not a lot changes here, we are using Crushing Shock because now we can stay ranged as long as possible and interrupt ranged targets! Elemental Drain is also here to debuff the enemies and give us better sustain.
  • You also might want to use Witchmothers Brew Drink for better sustain. Make sure to adjust your health then.
