Magicka Dragonknight Build PvE “Valakas” Summerset Chapter

Introduction

Welcome to the Magicka Dragonknight Build PvE “Valakas” for Elder Scrolls Online. Make sure to bookmark the link as I will keep updating the build for each new Update of ESO. The “Valakas” build is made for PvE Trials, Dungeons & Maelstrom Arena.

Magicka Dragonknights unleash their maximum damage potential in melee range. This setup is optimized for Elf Bane, Elf Bane is buffing several of our DoTs duration and also Zaans duration, which means our rotation is longer than usual. Having longer DoTs makes it possible to use Lava Whip more often and will therefore result in higher DPS. In addition to Elf Bane, we also run Siroria, if possible try to get the perfect version. Perfect Mantle of Siroria is very strong and has more stats than most other sets. I will also list up a secondary gear setup with Burning Spellweave and Silks of the Sun.

Changes from the previous version

With Summerset there have been a lot of changes. Jewelry crafting, Two Handed weapons count as two set bonus now, Light attacks scale differently and so on. Magicka Dragonknight can therefore pull off a very strong combo of certain sets that help with dps.

  • Set Combos
    • Elfbane: Now that we can transmute jewelry, we can use 2 heavy armor pieces (Chest and belt for example) and three jewelry (two Arcane traits and one Bloodthirsty trait). Elf Bane is one of the game changers as it increases duration of all fire abilities and Zaan by two seconds, thus increasing the duration of the rotation and give us more time to use our main spammable ability.
    • Siroria: You want the perfect version of this is possible, offers one more extra magicka bonus. Also if you can get stacks high enough you gain permanent 600 Spell damage.
    • Zaan: Last set is Zaan, which does get a 2 seconds increase in duration thanks to Elf Bane and the damage you get from this is crazy!
  • Jewelry Trait
    • Bloodthristy: For now we are using 3 Arcane. We might swap to 1 bloodthirsty later on but have to do further tests on that subject.
  • Changed Passive
    • Combustion: This now gives 500 Magicka everytime the burning status effect procs, which is basically permanently up on a Dragonknight. It has a five seconds cooldown. This passive was introduced to help with sustain.
  • Change to Light and Heavy attacks
    • Light and Heavy attacks now scale differently, previously they were scaling betting with Spell damage, now it should be more or less an equal factor between magicka and spell damage, therefore you will see an increase in Light and Heavy attack damage, making it even more important to weave them correctly.

Resource Management

With the Combustion passive, we get a lot of extra sustain when the burning status effect procs. On top of that we have passives like Battle Roar that restore resources when we activate an ability. Those two things make up most of your resource management already. Also make sure to pick up Spears or Bubbles form the healers to help with sustain. If that is still not enough you can always use Heavy Attacks to restore Magicka, or Witchmothers Brew Drink.

Rotation

On most fights try to prebuff yourself with Flames of Oblivion before you engage:

 

When you start the rotation, you have to the following:

> Flames of Oblivion > Light Attack > Eruption > Light Attack > Standard of Might > Light Attack > Blockade of Fire > Weapon Swap
> Light Attack > Engulfing Flames > Light Attack > Burning Embers > Light Attack > 6x Lava Whip> Weapon Swap
> Light Attack > Blockade of Fire > Weapon Swap

Once that is done, you can always repeat this rotation:

> Light Attack > 2x Lava Whip > Light Attack > Engulfing Flames > Light Attack > Burning Embers > Light Attack > 2x Lava Whip > Weapon Swap
> Light Attack > Eruption > Light Attack > Flames of Oblivion > Light Attack > Rearming Trap > Light Attack > Blockade of Fire > Weapon Swap

Gear

We use Burning Spellweave instead of Elf Bane here has the extra duration does not really help us because most mobs die really fast, therefore Spellweave is the better choice.

Skills

  • Not a lot changes here, we are using Crushing Shock because now we can stay ranged as long as possible and interrupt ranged targets! Elemental Drain is also here to debuff the enemies and give us better sustain.
  • You also might want to use Witchmothers Brew Drink for better sustain. Make sure to adjust your health then.
