Welcome to the Solo Stamina Templar Build for Elder Scrolls Online. This build is optimized for solo play. Make sure to bookmark the link as I will keep updating the build for each new Update of ESO. If you are new to the game I would also recommend checking out a few other guides:

Other Stamina Templar Guides:

The Solo Stam Templar build is optimized for solo play. You will find three different gear setups, the first one being best in slot, the second one advanced and the third one a very easily obtainable beginner setup. However, understanding the mechanics of the build is more important than the gear itself. By mechanics I mean the abilities that we use and what functions they have and how to sustain this setup and most importantly, how to stay alive with timed dodge rolls, blocks and heals.

Templars have some very nice unique abilities that make solo play a joy. Restoring Focus increases both our resistances and Stamina Recovery by a huge margin and Ritual of Retribution heals us and deals damage at the same time. We can also drain dead bodies with the Repentance skill to further increase sustain and burst healing if needed. Our main damage ability Biting Jabs also has many nice side effects such as activating the Burning Light and Spear Wall passives. Shielding is also no issue with the Brawler skill, it makes survival super easy as the shield size increases per enemy hit.

  • Two Hander & Bow setup
  • Optional Dual Wield & Bow Setup
  • Powerful Damage
  • Powerful Sustain
  • Good Healing
  • Big Shields
  • Solo Dungeons, Overland & Maelstrom

Solo Setup

Gear: 5x Tzogvin, 5x Briarheart, 2x Thurvokun on an Orc with Lava Foot Soup-and-Saltrice buff food.

  • Unbuffed: Out of combat
  • Buffed: Weapon Power Potion (20% Weap dmg, 10% Weap crit, 20% Stam rec), Weapon Damage Enchantment, Briarheart buff (450 Weap dmg), Tzogvin Buff, Restoring Focus were active.

You will find 3 different setups here. Setup 1 is the preferred setup. For people that do not have all the gear yet can use the Setup 2 which is easier to obtain and beginners can use Setup 3.

  • Setup 1 – Best Setup
  • Setup 2 – Advanced Gear
  • Setup 3 – Beginner Gear

Monster Sets

There are a few good Monster Sets that you can use with this setup. In general you can use any Monster Set of your choice, but there are clear favorites:

The Monster Set is nice because it applies Minor Maim to all enemies, reducing their overall damage done to you by 15%. This is huge and the debuff has a big uptime.

Bloodspawn is a good alternative if you don’t have access to Thurvokun. It increases our ultimate regeneration and more importantly gives us higher resistances to absorb more damage.

If you want to go for a more damage based Monster Set, then I recommend Selene. However, Velidreth, Maarselok, Maw of the Infernal are also nice choices. You can find more viable set choices in the Stamina Sets Article.

Gear Setup 1

  • Which sets you put in which slot is not that important, the only thing that matters is that you get two full five piece sets and a Monster Set.
  • One Piece Heavy Armor gives us some extra resistances and health. Therefore we run a 6 medium, 1 heavy setup.

Slot 4: Reverse SliceSlot 4: Restoring Focus
Slot 5: Echoing VigorSlot 5: Repentance/ Flex spot
Ultimate: Flawless DawnbreakerUltimate: Empowering Sweep

Skills explanation:

  • Brawler: Your most important survival ability. Use this on a single or several enemies to gain a huge shield that will bolster your health on top of the nice damage it does.
  • Power of the Light: Powerful Single Target burst damage and also applies Minor Fracture & Breach, reducing the enemies resistances by 1320.
  • Biting Jabs: This is your spammable attack. Deals a lot of damage both Single Target and AoE and also procs the Burning Light & Spear Wall passives.
  • Reverse Slice: Your execute ability that also deals nice splash damage.
  • Echoing Vigor: Strong heal over time that lasts for 10 seconds. We prefer this morph because the heal is already strong enough and the 10 seconds is more beneficial, more time to deal damage! Compared to the other morph which only lasts for a very short duration. If you drop low on health make sure to activate this and also use Brawler to gain a shield to bolster your health.
  • Flawless Dawnbreaker: Powerful AoE and Single Target ultimate that also boosts your Weapon Damage.
  • Endless Hail: This is your DoT that you need to constantly keep up on the enemies. Very powerful both in Single Target and AoE.
  • Ritual of Retribution: This has to be up a 100% of the time, deals decent damage and heals you constantly!
  • Razor Caltrops: Razor Caltrops is another Single Target and AoE Dot that you need to keep up all the time because it debuffs the enemies with Major Fracture, reducing their Physical Resistance by 5280, resulting in us dealing way more damage!
  • Restoring Focus: Increases your resistances and sustain tremendously, must be always active!
  • Repentance: Drain dead enemies for Stamina and Health. This is your flex spot, you could replace this with an ability of your liking.
  • Empowering Sweep: Backup Ultimate, you can use this instead of Dawnbreaker if you want. Also gives you the bonus of the Piercing Spear passive on the backbar.

Important Info for Solo Templar Build

It is very important that you use the Lava Foot Soup-and-Saltrice Buff-food. This will enhance our Max Stamina and Stamina Recovery by a huge margin. You can buy the food in the guild stores for a very cheap price, or craft it yourself if you have the recipe.

Lava Foot Soup-and-Saltrice
(Max Stamina, Stamina Recovery)

Food buff

Mundus Stone

The Lover Mundus Stone is the best choice for our setup, it will increase our overall damage the most as penetration is the most valuable damage increase stat.

The Lover (Increased Physical Penetration)

Any stamina based race works. If you want to learn more about the different racial passives that each race offers, check out my Race Guide which explains everything in detail.

Wood Elf
Dark Elf

The Weapon Power Potions are important as they give us Major Brutality, Major Savagery and Major Endurance buff. Technically, you don’t really need the Major Savagery buff because the Biting Jabs skill also gives us this, but doesn’t guarantee a 100% uptime if you don’t keep using the skill.

Weapon Power Potion
(Weap dmg, Weap Crit, Stamina)
(Blessed Thistle, Dragonthorn, Wormwood)

Weapon Power Potions

We are using Poisons to increase our overall damage output. If you don’t have poisons, you can just use another enchantment on your weapon.

Damage Health Poison
(Damage Poison, Damage Poison)
(Fleshfly Larva, Nightshade, Nirnroot)

Your end goal should be to get around 19000 Health on this setup. If you have different gear or lower Champion Points, you might want to adjust the attributes.

Resource Management

Our setup has a lot of resource management options, some already directly built in via Stamina Recovery and some more options that you can use whenever you need it.

Stamina Recovery

Lava Foot Soup-and-Saltrice buff-food is key to our sustain. The buff-food gives you Max Stamina and Stamina Recovery, a lot of it. You have to make sure to use this specific buff-food. You can buy it in the guild stores for a very cheap price or craft it yourself, if you have the recipe.

The Battle Rush passive from the Two Hander skill-line gives you another 30% Stamina Recovery for 10 seconds while you have a Two Handed weapon slotted.

Potions are another very important part of resource management. We are preferably using Essence of Weapon Power potions to gain another 20% Stamina Recovery boost, 10% Weapon Critical and a 20% Weapon Damage boost.. This both increases our sustain and also damage, I highly recommend using these potions in tough situations. The ingredients are listed in the potion section of the build.

The Restoring Focus ability returns 240 Stamina every second and also gives us a huge bonus on resistances.

The Repentance ability drains dead bodies and gives us a huge boost in Stamina and Health with 1 press of a button.

Before we start with the rotation, you always have to make sure to weave Light Attacks between each ability. This is important because the Light Attacks deal very good damage and proc your Weapon Enchantments and Poisons. You can find a guide here on that subject: “Weaving Beginner Guide”.

Your first priority has to always be to stay alive. Therefore healing, shielding and dodging has to be prioritized over damage.

  1. Brawler is your survival skill, every time you hit one or several enemies you will gain a shield. Most of the times that is already enough to stay alive.
  2. Echoing Vigor is your main healing ability that lasts 10 seconds. I would always recommend keeping it up if there is a lot of incoming damage. The Briarheart set is enough in most situations though if you keep up your DoTs.
  3. Keep up your two most important skills: Restoring Focus and Ritual of Retribution.
  4. Keep up all your DoTs on the enemy such as Endless Hail and Razor Caltrops.
  5. Once that is taken care of, you want to use your spammable on the front bar such as: Power of the Light, Biting Jabs and Reverse Slice.

Bad Habits

  1. Not keeping up your healing abilities such as Echoing Vigor, Ritual of Retribution and defense abilities such as Restoring Focus is the main reason why you die on this setup.
  2. Not keeping up your damage over time effects on the backbar will result in a huge loss in overall damage.
  3. Not using Brawler enough to bolster your health with the huge shield that the skill gives. Always before you swap to the backbar you should use Brawler first to gain a shield that will help you while you are on the backbar.
  4. Not using the right buff-food as listed will also result in sustain issues.

Dual Wield Setup

You can also use this as a Dual Wield setup if you want. This will also boost your healing because of skills like Whirling Blades and Blood Craze.

Endless Hail Ritual of Retribution Razor Caltrops Restoring Focus Repentance Empowering Sweep
