Welcome to the Infinite Archive guide for ESO (The Elder Scrolls Online). The Infinite Archive is a new type of endless dungeon/arena added to ESO in Update 40. The Infinite Archive doesn’t have a normal or veteran mode, it gets progressively more difficult the further you get.

Note: The Endless Archive was renamed to Infinite Archive.

Table of Contents

You can play it solo, with an NPC Companion or with one friend (in a duo). There is a separate Leaderboard for solo and duo completions of the archive.

The Endless Infinite Archive (IA) is different from other PvE content in ESO because the majority of its encounters are randomly selected and found in a random order. You will be fighting randomly selected trash packs, which can conjure up unusual combinations of various mobs throughout the game, such as bone colossi fighting you alongside dwarven automata.

You will also find bosses randomly selected from dungeon, world, and trial bosses throughout ESO. The bosses’ HP and damage is reduced to make them more suitable for a 1 or 2 player battle. However, they retain most of their original mechanics, so knowledge and experience of a wide range of bosses in ESO is advantageous to have.

If you have more questions, you can also ask someone in our community partner discord about this Endless Infinite Archive Guide!

How to enter the Infinite Archive

The Endless Infinite Archive is located in the Apocrypha zone. This is a DLC zone. However, you don’t need any DLC to enter the Endless Infinite Archive, because it is base game content. While you can’t enter Apocrypha without the DLC, you can still click on the Infinite Archive symbol and teleport yourself directly into the Infinite Archive. From The Aurbis main map, you have to click on the small map next to Coldharbour to get to the Apocrypha zone map.

If you want to enter Apocrypha yourself, you have to go through a portal. Check out the How to enter the Apocrypha zone in ESO guide.

As mentioned above, if you don’t own any DLC you can still click on the Infinite Archive and enter it since it is base game content.

Should you play SOLO or DUO in the Endless Archive?

The Endless Archive doesn’t have a normal or veteran mode. The difficulty is always the same whether you play solo or as a duo. Therefore you will have way better chances to survive longer if you play with another player in the Endless Archive in ESO. You can of course also take your Companion with you, but they aren’t the best at staying alive for long in more difficult content.

  • As Duo: Best method of playing
  • With Companion: Still rough because companions tend to die fast
  • Solo: You really need to have a good solo build and even more importantly perfect knowledge of game mechanics

Endless Archive SOLO or DUO

Endless Archive Builds

Depending on how you play the Endless Archive, it is recommended to select different builds. If you play SOLO you will need to defend and heal yourself while also dishing out high damage. When you play with another player as DUO, you can focus more on dealing damage and a bit of healing while your tank absorbs most of your damage. That doesn’t mean you won’t have to dodge mechanics, but you can have a lower health pool because you won’t get the big blows from bosses in your face. You can also play with your COMPANION, but because these usually go down fairly fast you will still need to take care of yourself like when you play solo.

When you take a look at the Group Builds, make sure to slightly adjust them if needed. For example slot a heal if you are playing as damage dealer.

Getting Started in Endless Archive

The first time you enter the Endless Archive, you can speak to the NPC, Master Malkhest, for an introductory quest to the Endless Archive. This will guide you through the first Arc of an Endless Archive run. If you fail the run or leave for another reason, then you can return to continue the quest, but you’ll need to start a new run from scratch.

Before you begin with the Endless Archive, I strongly recommend conducting some basic preparation before starting. While the difficulty may seem easy to some players when you first start out, some of the bosses found within the Archive are pretty strong and can definitely derail even an experienced player. Especially if you are alone it is recommended to play a good Solo Build. You can also read our How to Solo in ESO Guide which covers basic things like buff-food. potions, shields, sustain, and so on. However, a good build alone won’t save you from defeat, you really need to know the ins and outs of ESO to succeed in a solo run.

Tips for completing the Endless Archive

Steps to complete before starting:

  • Make sure you have a good buff food that increases your health, magicka/stamina and regen. Don’t just use “parse food”
  • Ensure you have a good DPS build that can handle solo situations (even if you play with a friend, they may die which means you’ll need to survive on your own for a while)
  • Slot a self-heal at minimum – mitigation skills like damage shields also help
  • Bring good potions, some soul gems and repair kits (or gold for repairing at the merchant)
  • Have plenty of time – as the name suggests, the Endless Archive can keep you occupied for quite some time even if you’re only doing one run.

We will now explain the structure of the Endless Archive and how it all fits together.

How the ESO Endless Archive Works

Now here is how the Endless Archive is built. This is important to understand how the whole place is structured. Terms like Stages, Cycles, Arcs, Verses, Visions and Threads are all important to understand.

Structure

The Endless Archive is broken down into smaller portions to make it more structured and manageable:

  • Stages – Each time you go through a Portal in the Endless Archive, you are taken to a new Stage. You usually have two stages of trash mobs, each one containing three packs of randomly generated mobs. The third stage will contain a boss, randomly selected from a very long list of potential bosses found throughout ESO.
  • Cycles – After beating the boss at the end of the final stage, you will begin a new Cycle. Each cycle has the same structure as that described above, two stages and a boss fight on the final one.
  • Arc – After completing four Cycles, you will have to fight another boss, which is the final boss of the Arc. This one is tough and can easily end your run. After completing the boss, you will move onto another Arc, beginning the process anew (Arc 2, Cycle 1, Stage 1). Each Arc is more difficult than the last – mobs and bosses will hit harder and you may occasionally find surprise bosses (Marauders) mixed in with the trash pulls.

1 Arc consists of the following:

Cycle 1 Cycle 2 Cycle 3 Cycle 4 Cycle 5
Trash Trash Trash Trash Trash
Trash Trash Trash Trash Trash
Boss Boss Boss Boss Tho’ at Replicanum

Marauder Boss: The Marauder Boss can randomly spawn during trash pack encounters once per Arc. These are tough bosses that need to be defeated before continuing.

Verses and Visions

While the Endless Archive does get progressively harder, there are two types of “power-ups” you can obtain as you progress.

  • Verses – These are temporary buffs to your character that can improve your defensive, offensive, or utility abilities. After you finish a Stage, you will be able to choose between two Verses. Verses last until the next stage.
  • Visions – These are permanent buffs. Each time you complete a Cycle, you must choose one of two randomly selected Visions. Visions will last for the remainder of the run, so they can be a big help as the fights get more difficult.

You can find a full list of Verses and Visions here.

Extra Stages and Threads

After completing a Stage, a smaller portal sometimes opens off to the side of the main one, allowing you to explore the unknown. These lead to a minigame of some kind, where you typically need to complete a task while avoiding hazards. You only get one shot at these – winning them will grant you an extra reward chest. If you fail you are ported to the next Stage, but you don’t lose a life for failing so you might as well give it a try.

Hang on to your Threads or the Endless Archive is over

The last important thing to note in the Endless Archive is that you start each run with three Threads, which are basically lives. Every time you die, you lose a thread, and if you run out of Threads you will not be able to proceed further and must reset the Archive. Occasionally you may be rewarded with an extra Thread upon completing a Cycle, but this is quite uncommon.

Additionally, you can also purchase upgrades from the merchant called Filer Terzus. You can find the merchant in the entrance hall on the left side. The item is called Destozuno’s Safety Net and allows you to get one extra live permanently. To get the Destozuno’s Safety Net you need to have finished the Word Waltzer achievement and you need to pay 30’000 Archival Fortunes.

Permanent Upgrades

The Endless Archive has permanent upgrades that you can purchase with Archival Fortunes. However, before you purchase them you need to complete achievements to unlock them.

  • Destozuno’s Safety Net: 1 Extra Thread/Live before you have to reset
  • Tentacular Motivation: Grants you faster movement throughout the Endless Archive.
  • Ghostly Gratitude: Improves the strength of your Verses.
  • Filer Kor’s Truesight: Access to a third Vision choice.
  • Aramril’s Training: Strengths of your Visions improve.
  • Sweeter Deal: Access to a third Verse choice.

Resetting the Endless Archive

Fortunately, it’s very easy to reset the Endless Archive – you can find a large hourglass in the entrance area, and flipping it will immediately reset the instance and begin porting you out. Then simply port back in to begin the run anew.

Endless Archive Merchants

There are two merchants inside the Endless Archive, Filer Tezurs and Ool. Filer Tezurs always has the same items in store. The merchant Ool has a rotating weekly inventory. You can find his weekly rotating wares here. You can find them in the entrance area of Endless Archive, one on the left side and one on the right side.

Filer Tezurs Merchant

Filer Tezurs offers the following items:

Filer Ool Merchant

Filer Ool’s wares rotate every week. You can find the weekly list on the Merchant Ool Wares Page. Filer Ool offers the following items:

  • Archival Essay: Random Treasure Map
  • Bound Style Page: Random Monster Shoulder Style Page
  • Companion Equipment
  • Erroneous Archive Map
  • Random Leads
  • Random Fragments
  • Random Furnishings
  • Random Clue (Tales of Tribute)

Endless Archive Rewards

After completing a Cycle, Arc or side puzzle, you will be able to open a Muniment Chest, which contains rewards including gold, equipment, soul gems and a special new currency called Archival Fortunes

Archival Fortunes can be spent at the merchant in the entrance area of the Endless Archive in return for special rewards, such as Monster Mask style motifs, Legendary quality treasure maps, non combat pets, Companion gear and more. The items available will change on a weekly basis.

Endless Archive also contains a new type of item set. For the first time, ESO has class-specific item sets that will buff your class abilities in a specific manner. You typically will only find pieces the set for the class you are currently playing to begin with – once you have collected all of these, you’ll begin finding set pieces for other classes. The item sets available from the Endless Archive are listed below.

Class-Sets in Endless Archive

The Endless Archive offers class-specific sets that you can obtain in the endless dungeon.

There are 7 sets total, each focusing on a specific skill line from each of ESO’s 7 classes. These sets come in all weights (light, medium and heavy).

At 3 Crux, allies gain Major Protection, reducing damage taken by 10%.

Endless Archive Bosses

As mentioned above, there are many different bosses that you can potentially find in the Endless Archive in ESO. These bosses are reflections of dungeon, world and trial bosses throughout ESO, and typically retain most of their mechanics and attacks, however their HP and damage is usually scaled down to make them more balanced for 1 or 2 players.

As you progress through the Endless Archive, the bosses will get tougher, with more HP and damage. If you want to optimise your build for the Endless Archive Bosses, then you may want to know the armour of the bosses so you can determine how much Penetration your build needs.

The armour of bosses in Endless Archive is as follows:

  • First Boss: 9100
  • Second Boss: 18200
  • Third boss: 27300
  • Fourth Boss: 36400
  • Arc Final Boss: 18200

This pattern will repeat in subsequent Arcs after the first one.

Theater of War Guide

In the Theater of War in Endless Archive, you need to beat the Wood Elf Aramril before she manages to beat you.

  1. Deal damage to her as long as she isn’t immune.
  2. When the Crystal is active, you can’t damage her anymore.
  3. Now destroy the Crystal (sort of like a DPS check). Make sure your Ultimate is ready when the Crystal can be damaged.
  4. Keep an eye on her and if she is channeling a skill then use an interrupt skill or simply bash her
    1. Interrupt Skills: Crushing Shock, Venom Arrow and more examples.

Echoing Den Guide

Inside the Echoing Den you need to bring all glowing souls into the center of the room before the time runs out. If you move too fast, the lights will stop following you. But if you move too slow, you might run out of time.

  1. Walk backwards, this pacing is perfect for keeping the ghostlights on you on you.
  2. “RP/Slow Walk” (make sure to assign the button, you now walk instead of running) with the Wild Hunt Ring is equipped is also a good speed.
  3. Use a controller because you can pace your character with the joystick.

A few notes from user found on the forum:

“Thanks everyone for the advice. I completed it on the last difficulty using the walking backwards strategy with one piece of heavy equipped. It feels like this activity was made with console and controller players in mind, as they can use the joystick to control their speed. It seems keyboard players have to look at what they have equipped, walk backwards, or do awkward dances like NoticeMeArkay mentioned.”

“I usually block walk to mostly prevent them from spazzing out”

“- Pick up a ghostlight.
– Take a step into the direction of the next nearest ghostlight
– First ghost light will light up green and follow my step
– Ghost light will return to it’s natural blue color when it’s about to leav my side and return to it’s original place
– Quickly take the next step to have it light up green again and follow me
– Proceed this tedious dance up until you get to collect the next ghostlight nearby
– Bring 3 ghost lights at once to the middle.
– Repeat the whole process with the remaining three”

Filer’s Wing Guide

In the Filer’s Wing activity in the Endless Archive you have to eliminate all little tomeshells in a maze and not die to enemies that attack you.

Your skill bar will change into:

  1. Tentacle Torment: General Attack
  2. All Seeing: Fire a bolt that reveals Tomeshells in a 50 meter radius for 30 seconds.
  3. Speedy Tentacles: Speed buff
  4. Paralyzing Blast: Stun, you need to face the target to stun it
  5. Ink Spray: Drop Ink Puddle to slow down enemies.

Here are a few tips to remember:

  1. You can’t recover health, but if you die your party member can resurrect you
  2. Stun and snare enemies and defeat them with traps.
  3. No time limit, don’t rush through this too fast, otherwise you just get yourself killed.
  4. If you are being attacked use your stun and snare and try to flee or kill them with traps.

Haefal’s Butchery Guide

In the Haefal’s Butchery you need to eat 3 Sweetrolls while avoiding the Butcher that tries to kill you. Once you ate 3 Sweetrolls, you need to charge towards him and use your Ultimate to defeat him. That’s already it!

Treacherous Crossing Guide

The Treacherous Crossing inside the Endless Archive gives you a challenge where you have to cross the corridor before it resets. This is a lot easier to complete with two players, since one player can advance across while the other player operates the switches. If you are playing solo, you still have more time as compared to a duo but it will still be tricky.

Speed buff Major Expedition and/ or the Wild Hunt Mythic Ring helps with this activity.

  1. When you hover over the bar, you see the respective flower highlighted that is affected.
  2. Select the closest path first, and the furthest last. Because that is the order in which the flowers will reverse.

Sometimes if you are playing solo you might get bad luck and the positions are in a very disadvantageous way, you can still do it though but it will be tricky.

Endless Archive Leaderboard in ESO

The Endless Archive in ESO also offers different leaderboards where players can compete against each other. This is also the first time where time isn’t crucial, but getting more stages, cycles and arcs completed is what is important to improve your score on the leaderboard. There is also a solo and a separate duo leaderboard. Of course, two players will get further than just one player, especially since the difficulty is the exact same whether you go in solo or as duo.

Leaderboards in Endless Archive:

  • Solo
  • Duo
