Welcome to our Ode Tempest Build Guide for Soulframe. In this guide, we’ll explain how you can create a powerful Ode Tempest build that can one-shot many enemies in the game. While primarily a melee build, it also doubles as a ranged lightning mage that can shoot electrical balls that travel through several enemies, damaging and staggering them all. This build works well for both solo and co-op play.
Ode Tempest is one of the Pacts (classes) available in Soulframe. It focuses on melee prowess and voltaic damage, and is attuned with the Courage virtue. The immense melee damage buffs available to Ode Tempest players, combined with the periodic damage immunity, make this the strongest Pact in the game as of Preludes 11. With this build, you will be able to solo anything in the game quite comfortably and can enjoy the liberty of one-shotting even high-level heavy enemies, once you’ve finished levelling up the build.
This build is up to date with Soulframe Preludes 15. We will continue to update it as Soulframe evolves in the run-up to its full release.

Ode Tempest Pact Overview
Lightning cracks where thunder bodes. Voltaics strike against their own. Rebind your arm to Tempest Ode. Harness the power of Ode’n technology. Though freed you are, your Tempest training may prove useful still. May they rue the day they stole your frame.
Ode Tempest is one of the Pacts (classes) in Soulframe. It has an affinity with the Courage virtue, so Ode Tempest players will typically benefit from investing in Courage.
This is arguably the strongest Pact in Soulframe because its damage output is very high (when built and played correctly). Once sufficiently levelled up, you unlock the Atmos Sphere arcanic, which gives you temporary immunity to most attacks when activated. Ode Tempest allows you to unleash bursts of devastating damage, and you don’t need to worry about defending yourself in the process, thanks to Atmos Sphere.
However, Ode Tempest is a little tricky to obtain. You must be in either the Alca’s Children or Silent Rose faction, increase your Faction Rank to Rank 5, then spend 27,500 Faction Standing to unlock the Ode Tempest Pact. You can then craft the Pact by visiting Tuvalkane in Nightfold. This process means you’ll have to complete a great deal of Faction Tale quests to attain enough Standing to unlock the Ode Tempest.
Ode Tempest Arcanics
The Ode Tempest Pact has the following Arcanics:
| Arcanic | Description |
|---|---|
|
Seismor |
Bowl down foes with a Seismor. Raze the earth with a rolling ball of destruction.
Seismor sends out a ball of rock that pushes back all enemies in its path, dealing a modest amount of damage in the process. |
|
Astra Sphere |
A storm in a sphere. Enemies in the storm take extra Voltaic damage. Amped by Atmos.
When you activate Astra Sphere, you create an AoE that deals a small amount of damage to all enemies within. Much more importantly, this skill buffs your damage output while you are standing in the area. |
|
Atmos Sphere |
A covert device of Ode’n armour. Orbited by Atmos, you are shielded from strikes. Amped by Astra.
Atmos Sphere gives you temporary immunity to most enemy attacks and will knock back your attackers for good measure. This gives you a brief window to focus on dealing damage, without worrying about defending yourself. |
Ode Tempest Playstyle
At low level, Ode Tempest doesn’t feel too special to play – it just seems like an elemental version of the Tethren Pact.
But once you have unlocked all three of your Arcanics, the effect is transformative, and the class becomes an almost unstoppable force.
Seismor is the least important Arcanic – it is a decent knockback effect that can be used to create space for yourself, but it doesn’t do anything remarkable.
The combination of Astra Sphere and Atmos Sphere is the bread and butter of the Ode Tempest class, and this synergy is what makes the class so powerful. Astra Sphere gives you a powerful damage bonus on your attacks – to maximise this effect, you should use Ode Tempest with a weapon that has very high damage on each strike, such as the Polearm.
Atmos Sphere makes you resistant to most enemy attacks. Enemies usually can’t stagger you when this is active, either. Therefore, it makes sense to always use Astra Sphere and Atmos Sphere at the same time. You can then dish out devastating fully charged heavy attacks that will quickly empty enemy health bars, and there’s nothing they can do to stop you. If you’re fighting lots of enemies at once, you can then play it safe and kite around until the Astra and Atmos Spheres are off cooldown, and repeat the process.
This combination allows you to comfortably solo anything in Soulframe, even if you are not very experienced with the game’s combat. While it did pick up a nerf, it is still very strong and trivialises most encounters in the game.
How to Unlock Ode Tempest in Soulframe
The Ode Tempest can be unlocked by players in the Alca’s Children or Silent Rose factions. You must advance to Rank 5, then attain sufficient Faction Standing to purchase Ode Tempest in the Favours shop.
Once unlocked, you can craft Ode Tempest by visiting Tuvalkane in Nightfold.
See our Faction Progression Guide to learn how to gain Faction Standing as quickly as possible.
Ode Tempest Build Best Virtues
The most important Virtue for the Ode Tempest Pact is Courage, which will boost your HP and the damage of your Courage-attuned weapons.
You should put around 50-60% of your points into Courage, then put the rest into Spirit. A split is recommended because you will hit a damage cap if you scale completely into one Virtue. Putting points into Spirit also increases your Arcanic recharge speed, which is great for a Pact with very strong Arcanics, like Ode Tempest.
Ode Tempest Best Equipment
In this section, we will explain the best armour to wear as Ode Tempest and the best weapons to equip.
Ode Tempest Best Armour Setup
Currently, the armour system in Soulframe isn’t very complicated. There are three armour stats – Physical, Magic and Stability.
- Physical reduces the damage you take from physical attacks, such as ordinary weapon strikes and arrows.
- Magic reduces the damage you take from all magical attacks, such as lightning and fire spells.
- Stability improves your resistance to stagger effects, making it harder for enemies to stun you or knock you to the ground.
All three of these stats add up to give you a total armour rating, which is visible in the top-right of your character menu.
There are currently no armour pieces or sets that grant special effects, so you should keep crafting better armour until you have the highest possible rating in each armour stat.
Note that it is sometimes better to have a balanced armour distribution that is a little lower on your overall armour stat. For example, having 5 points in each armour stat for a total armour of 15 is better than having 18 points all in physical armour.
Ode Tempest Best Weapons
I highly recommend Duhk Halic, a Courage-attuned Polearm. Once fully levelled up, this weapon’s heavy attacks are something to be reckoned with.
Combined with the damage bonus from Astra Sphere and the immunity afforded by Atmos Sphere, you can take the time to fully charge up your heavy attacks for maximum damage, which will one-shot most regular enemies in the game (only when the Astra Sphere buff is active, otherwise the heavy attack damage is good but not remarkable).
Duhk Halic also has a small amount of cleave on its fully charged attacks, so it’s possible to one-shot several enemies in one strike. The most I have managed is three enemies in one attack, but you can probably get more with the perfect positioning and timing.
Reforge your Polearm with Verite: Twice Blessed by Mora or
Gildaur: Thrice Blessed by Mora to get additional Courage scaling.
Ode Tempest Best Sidearm
Since the Ode Tempest Pact is themed around voltaic magic, and it is already a melee powerhouse, we use the Odiac sidearm, which shoots lightning balls at enemies, giving you a strong ranged option.
Odiac already comes with Courage and Spirit attunement, so it is well-suited to this build out of the box. But you can enhance this further by reforging it with Feybalt: Thrice Blessed by Mora.
Obtaining Thrice-Blessed Joineries
Thrice-Blessed Joineries are rare upgrade materials required to get the maximum possible attunement scaling on your weapon. They have a small chance to drop from most world bosses, or to be found in treasure chests or crypt sarcophagi. You can also buy them from your Faction Favours shop, but this requires rank 4 or 5 with your faction and a whole heap of faction favour to buy one.
Don’t worry if you don’t have Thrice Blessed Joineries yet – they are quite rare, and the build still works fine without perfect optimisation, so just use the once- or twice-blessed version until you find some.
Also, note that Verite currently has no Thrice-Blessed version, so for weapon types requiring Verite, the best you can get is Twice-Blessed.
Ode Tempest Best Runes & Totems
For your Polearm weapon, I recommend slotting the following Runes and Totems:
| Slot | Item | Effect | How to Obtain |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rune | Splitbolt | Call down a barrage of spears, hitting in an AoE around the target | Can drop from Gourdo or Kabocha during Cogah |
| Courage Totem 1 | Hare Harms | Pull Smite causes an explosion around the enemy | Free or charm Rabbits |
| Courage Totem 2 | Diving Drake | Pull Smite deals additional damage | Free or charm Ducks |
| Grace Totem | Spreading Sploot | Chance to Smite another enemy on Pull Smite | Free or charm Squirrels |
| Spirit Totem | Dabble Dredge | Heal on Pull Smite | Free or charm Ducks |
For the Odiac Sidearm, we use the same Totems, but switch to a Rune that is compatible with Magickal weapons, such as The Hollowing.
Important Note: If you have the same Totems but attuned differently to ours (for example, if your Hare Harms totem is attuned to Spirit instead of Courage), then rearrange them accordingly. The most important thing is that each totem is in the correct coloured slot.
If you are playing with friends, you may want to change the Dabble Dredge Totem to Heal Preens (a Duck totem) which will heal nearby allies (including yourself) when you Pull Smite an enemy. Remember to upgrade your Runes and Totems to increase their effects!
Please note that Runes aren’t guaranteed drops. You might need to defeat bosses several times before you obtain a Rune.
You can learn more about these upgrades in our Runes & Totems Guide.
Combat Arts Upgrade Priority
As you use the weapons mentioned above, you will gain XP towards upgrading the Combat Arts for those weapon types.
In this section, we have some advice for levelling up your Combat Arts for this Ode Tempest Build.
Polearm
For the Polearm, we recommend upgrading your Combat Arts in this order:
- Helm Gong
- Headlong
- Spectre Strike
- Smitten
- Final Blow
- Riposte
- Unyielding
- Vaunt
- Smitten Rank 2
- Smitten Rank 3
- Vaunt Rank 2
- Vaunt Rank 3
The most important Polearm Art for this build is Headlong, which allows you to charge your heavy attacks more quickly. Smitten is also important, as it will allow you to gain bonus damage and synergise with the Dabble Drege Totem (see above) to absorb HP from enemies.
Unyielding is also notable; while not a high-priority unlock, it does allow you to parry enemy heavy attacks, increasing the number of ripostes you can pull off.
Odiac Sidearm
For your Odiac Sidearm, prioritise your Weapon Arts thus:
- Mirrorspell
- Scry
- Smitten
- Cultivate
- Helm Gong
- Headlong
- Unhindered
- Unhindered 2
- Scry 2
- Smitten 2
- Unhindered 3
- Scry 3
- Smitten 3
This setup gives you greater range and a higher Smite chance. It also causes your ranged heavy attacks to stagger enemies and penetrate through multiple targets, potentially staggering and damaging whole groups of enemies at once.
Ode Tempest Upgrade Priority
We recommend upgrading your Ode Tempest Pact Arts in the following order:
- Lightning Strike
- Mora’s Pride
- Iridis’ Favour
- Saphene’s Gift
- Rooted
- Wingspan
- Stalwart
- Gravitate
- Physic
- Mora’s Pride 2
- Iridis’ Favour 2
- Rooted 2
- Stalwart 2
- Mora’s Pride 3
- Iridis’ Favour 3
- Rooted 3
- Rooted 4
This setup boosts your Courage and Spirit, giving you more damage scaling for your weapons. It also gives you heaps of stagger and knockdown resistance, ideal for a heavy melee fighter like the Ode Tempest.
