Welcome to our Bromius Build Guide for Soulframe. In this guide, we’ll explain how you can create a powerful Bromius build that deals excellent AoE damage and stagger. This build works well in both solo and co-op play.
Bromius is one of the Pacts (classes) available in Soulframe. It focuses on crowd control, damage resistance and AoE damage, and is attuned with the Courage virtue.
This build is up to date with Soulframe Preludes 15. We will continue to update it as Soulframe evolves in the run-up to its full release.

Bromius Pact Overview
When giants fall, when fail our brutes, ‘Tis strength to turn to severed roots. And bear to look within for truce.
Bromius is one of the Pacts (classes) in Soulframe. It has an affinity with the Courage virtue, so Bromius players will typically benefit from investing in Courage.
This Pact focuses on AoE melee damage, crowd control and stealing armour from enemies.
Bromius Arcanics
The Bromius Pact has the following Arcanics:
| Arcanic | Description |
|---|---|
|
Rump Thump |
Leap… and thump! Enemies in area of effect take damage. Nearby enemies are Staggered.
You jump in the air and slam into the ground, dealing AoE damage and staggering enemies around you. The damage increases significantly when Rump Thump reaches higher ranks. |
|
Wevetroot |
Rouse the ancient Wevetroots. Enemies are caught in the thorns, taking damage over time.
Summon roots to stun enemies in front of you. The roots also deal a small amount of damage over time. |
|
Song of Growth |
By sacred song, seeds turn to saplings. Increased armour strength for you and nearby allies.
Increases your armour and the armour of nearby party members. |
Bromius Playstyle
When you are low level, Bromius doesn’t feel remarkable to play because you only have access to Rump Thump, which initially does rather weak AoE damage.
However, by the time you reach levels 15-20, Bromius starts getting much stronger. The most powerful combo offered by this Pact is to stun a group of enemies with Wevetroot to leave them completely defenceless, and then follow up with Rump Thump, which deals heavy damage when you’ve gained enough XP to rank it up a couple of times. Rump Thump also knocks enemies to the ground, so you can finish off any survivors with melee heavy attacks.
Against bosses, your options are a little more limited. Rump Thump usually can’t stagger bosses. Wevetroot will stun some bosses, but others are immune to the effect. The good news is that the Pact Arts of the Bromius Pact allow you to steal armour from foes, reducing their own damage resistance and increasing your own. This is particularly useful in longer boss fights.
Since Bromius doesn’t have any innate healing abilities, we will be relying on weapon totems for healing.
One downside of the Bromius Pact is that all three of its Arcanics feature very long animations that can leave you vulnerable to damage if you aren’t careful. Rump Thump is especially bad in this regard, because you end up in a kind of crouching animation, allowing any enemies who avoided the knockback to attack you. Make sure you have a decent amount of space around you before casting your Arcanics, or risk taking extra damage.
How to Unlock Bromius in Soulframe
Before you can play the Bromius Pact, you must unlock and craft it.
To unlock Bromius, complete the Waste Bear Fable – we have a Waste Bear Quest Guide if you’re struggling to find or complete the quest.
Once unlocked, you can craft Bromius by visiting Tuvalkane in Nightfold.
Bromius Build Best Virtues
The most important Virtue for the Bromius Pact is Courage, which will boost your HP and the damage of your Courage-attuned weapons.
It also helps to have some points in Spirit, which will boost your Arcanic Cooldown Speed. Investing in two Virtues also lets you take full advantage of dual-virtue scaling, found on the stronger weapons in Soulframe.
The exact values do not matter, but you should aim for around 60% of your points in Courage, and the rest in Spirit. No points in Grace are required.
Bromius Best Equipment
In this section, we will explain the best armour to wear as Bromius and the best weapons to equip.
Bromius Best Armour Setup
Currently, the armour system in Soulframe isn’t very complicated. There are three armour stats – Physical, Magic and Stability.
- Physical reduces the damage you take from physical attacks, such as ordinary weapon strikes and arrows.
- Magic reduces the damage you take from all magical attacks, such as lightning and fire spells.
- Stability improves your resistance to stagger effects, making it harder for enemies to stun you or knock you to the ground.
All three of these stats add up to give you a total armour rating, which is visible in the top-right of your character menu.
There are currently no armour pieces or sets that grant special effects, so you should keep crafting better armour until you have the highest possible rating in each armour stat.
Note that it is sometimes better to have a balanced armour distribution that is a little lower on your overall armour stat. For example, having 5 points in each armour stat for a total armour of 15 is better than having 18 points all in physical armour.
Bromius Best Weapons
I highly recommend Duhk Halic, a Courage-attuned Polearm. Once fully levelled up, this weapon’s heavy attacks are something to be reckoned with.
Duhk Halic also has a small amount of cleave on its fully charged attacks, so it’s possible to deal heavy damage to several enemies at once.
You can use a different Polearm or an entirely different weapon type if you want, but try to stick to weapons that scale on both Courage and Spirit.
Reforge your Polearm with Verite: Twice Blessed by Mora or
Gildaur: Thrice Blessed by Mora to get additional Courage scaling.
Bromius Best Sidearm
Sidearms are small weapons in the Short Blade or Flyblade category. They can be equipped in your Sidearm weapon slot, allowing you to swap to that weapon at any time.
Because our main weapon is so good, the Sidearm is honestly not too important with this build. I prefer to use Precklies, a Courage-attuned Flyblade that gives you a backup ranged option, which can occasionally be useful when fighting flying enemies. But your Polearm works great as a thrown weapon, too, so it’s up to you.
Obtaining Thrice-Blessed Joineries
Thrice-Blessed Joineries are rare upgrade materials required to get the maximum possible attunement scaling on your weapon. They have a small chance to drop from most world bosses, or to be found in treasure chests or crypt sarcophagi. You can also buy them from your Faction Favours shop, but this requires rank 4 or 5 with your faction and a whole heap of faction favour to buy one.
Don’t worry if you don’t have Thrice Blessed Joineries yet – they are quite rare, and the build still works fine without perfect optimisation, so just use the once- or twice-blessed version until you find some.
Also, note that Verite currently has no Thrice-Blessed version, so for weapon types requiring Verite, the best you can get is Twice-Blessed.
Bromius Best Runes & Totems
For your Polearm weapon, I recommend slotting the following Runes and Totems:
| Slot | Item | Effect | How to Obtain |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rune | Splitbolt | Call down a barrage of spears, hitting in an AoE around the target | Can drop from Gourdo or Kabocha during Cogah |
| Courage Totem 1 | Hare Harms | Pull Smite causes an explosion around the enemy | Free or charm Rabbits |
| Courage Totem 2 | Diving Drake | Pull Smite deals additional damage | Free or charm Ducks |
| Grace Totem | Spreading Sploot | Chance to Smite another enemy on Pull Smite | Free or charm Squirrels |
| Spirit Totem | Dabble Dredge | Heal on Pull Smite | Free or charm Ducks |
Use a similar setup for your Sidearm – Runes are specific to weapon types, so you’ll need to change to one that fits your Sidearm.
Important Note: If you have the same Totems but attuned differently to ours (for example, if your Hare Harms totem is attuned to Spirit instead of Courage), then rearrange them accordingly. The most important thing is that each totem is in the correct coloured slot.
If you are playing with friends, you may want to change the Dabble Dredge Totem to Heal Preens (a Duck totem), which will heal nearby allies (including yourself) when you Pull Smite an enemy. Remember to upgrade your Runes and Totems to increase their effects!
Please note that Runes aren’t guaranteed drops. You might need to defeat bosses several times before you obtain a Rune.
You can learn more about these upgrades in our Runes & Totems Guide.
Combat Arts Upgrade Priority
As you use the weapons mentioned above, you will gain XP towards upgrading the Combat Arts for those weapon types.
In this section, we have some advice for levelling up your Combat Arts for this Bromius Build.
Polearm
For the Polearm, we recommend upgrading your Combat Arts in this order:
- Helm Gong
- Headlong
- Spectre Strike
- Smitten
- Final Blow
- Riposte
- Unyielding
- Vaunt
- Smitten Rank 2
- Smitten Rank 3
- Vaunt Rank 2
- Vaunt Rank 3
The most important Polearm Art for this build is Headlong, which allows you to charge your heavy attacks more quickly. Smitten is also important, as it will allow you to gain bonus damage and synergise with the Sympathy Pact Art (see below) to absorb HP from enemies.
Unyielding is also notable, while not a high priority unlock, it does allow you to parry enemy heavy attacks, increasing the number of ripostes you can pull off.
Bromius Upgrade Priority
We recommend upgrading your Bromius Pact Arts in the following order:
- Barkbare
- Rooted
- Wingspan
- Stalwart
- Canopy’s Blessing
- Physic
- Mora’s Pride
- Iridis’ Favour
- Stalwart 2
- Mora’s Pride 2
- Iridis’ Favour 2
- Mora’s Pride 3
- Iridis’ Favour 3
- Barkbare 2
- Rooted 2
- Barkbare 3
- Rooted 3
We put as many points as possible into Mora’s Pride and Iridis’ Favour to maximise Courage and Spirit (increasing melee damage as much as possible).
The Rooted and Stalwart passives help you stay on your feet when you get hit by enemy attacks – without these passives, you can get knocked down even if you block the attack.
If you want to fully play into Bromius’ armour-stealing and damage-reflection features to make a kind of deflection tank build, then you can tweak this setup to fully upgrade Barkbare and Canopy’s Blessing. On the other hand, if you don’t take damage very often, you shouldn’t put more than 1 point into Canopy’s Blessing, as you will get more value from the points elsewhere.
