In this guide we will be explaining how to obtain the Shortsword +1 in Baldur’s Gate 3. This is a weapon that is especially useful in the early game of BG3, for characters who are dual wielding melee weapons.

While it doesn’t give any special abilities, it does give more damage and better Attack Rolls than many other similar weapons early in the game, so it’s useful until later on in the game when you can find better weapons.

What is the Shortsword +1 in BG3?

The Shortsword +1 is an uncommon variant of the Shortsword weapon. Its only major distinguishing feature is a +1 enchantment, which has the following effects:

  • A +1 bonus to your Attack Rolls made with the weapon, slightly improving your hit chance.
  • A +1 bonus added onto your Damage Rolls with the weapon, slightly improving your minimum and maximum damage per attack.

Since weapon damage is often a little bit low in the early stages of the game when using one-handed or dual-wielded weapons, this can help give you a little bit of a boost. The Paladin Build, Cleric Build or the Ranger Build are often using the Shortsword in early game.

How to Get the Shortsword +1 in BG3

You can obtain the Shortsword +1 quite early in Act I, making this an ideal early-game weapon for any dual-wielding character.

The Shortsword +1 can be purchased from Roah Moonglow in the Shattered Sanctum. This is the keep/dungeon located behind the Goblin Camp. Roah Moonglow is found to your left, just after entering the main central room. The sword also isn’t expensive.

Roah doesn’t have the Shortsword +1? If you do not see the weapon in her wares, then take a Long Rest and return to the Roah. This should reset her items, and the Shortsword+1 should appear. You might have to try several times and you don’t need to spend any camp supplies for this. Traders have a cap of green items they can display, so they sort of have a rotating availability for these items.

If you’re struggling to find Roah Moonglow, click here to see her location on the BG3 map.

Please note that if you decide to attack the Goblins and assassinate their True Soul leaders, Roah Moonglow will no longer be available for trading – in this case you won’t encounter her again until Act II. So if you plan to take this path then it’s best to buy everything you need from her beforehand.
