Elementalist Build Overview
In this Sung Jinwoo Elementalist Build for Solo Leveling: ARISE OVERDRIVE, we’ll be combining a magical Focus weapon (for example a Grimoire) with a sword.
Our primary weapon bar will be equipped with a Magic Focus, and we’ll equip ice spells on this bar, allowing you to freeze enemies and dealing decent damage in both AoE and single-target situations.
The secondary weapon will use a sword. This is makes you more versatile by allowing you to fight in melee, and there are several sword variants that deal elemental damage, playing into our Elementalist mage build quite nicely. On this bar, we will be equipping fire spells. The Elementalist’s Fire spells are a little more single-target focused than the ice spells, but they do have some AoE potential, for example the Firestorm Dagger spell has a primary single-target projectile but also sends out a wide arc of smaller projectiles that can hit many enemies with one cast.
Elementalist Build Best Stat Points – Arise Overdrive
The most important Stats for the Sung Jinwoo Elementalist Build are Strength, Intelligence, Vitality and Perception.
Strength increases your Attack stat which is vital for boosting your maximum damage output, and it also increases the amount of damage you can block.
Vitality boosts your HP, Defence and the HP regain when using potions. The amount of points you should put here typically depends on how confident you are with avoiding enemy attacks, but for most players I would suggests putting at least 15 percent of your points here.
Intelligence increases your MP and MP Regeneration, elemental status effect damage and Chaos/Overwhelm Damage.
Perception increases your minimum damage on attacks, so for a well-rounded damage profile it should be combined with Strength.
For every 10 points you earn, put 3 in Strength, 2 in Perception, 2 in Vitality and 3 in Intelligence. There is a caveat to this distribution – When you unlock the Mana Wave passive in your Focus weapon skill tree, your Attack will be increased in proportion to your Intelligence. At this point, you may want to put about half of your Strength points into Agility to increase your Critical Hit Rate and Critical Hit Damage.
Elementalist Build Best Skills – Arise Overdrive
Your Skills are split between Class Skills, Weapon Skills and Enhancement Skills. The latter two groups only consist of passive effects that boost your stats or grant a bonus under specific conditions.
Best Class Skills
Here is our Class Skill layout for the Sung Jinwoo Elementalist Build in Solo Leveling: Arise Overdrive:
| Slot | Skill | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Basic Skill A1 | Cold Storm | Rapidly slash targets in front of you with a frost-infused blade. Applies the Cold Ice status effect. |
| Basic Skill A2 | Iceberg | Summon an ice pillar that can pierce through several enemies, knocking them over. Applies Cold Ice to the targets. |
| Basic Skill B1 | Firestorm Dagger | Throw a flaming projectile and an arc of smaller flaming projectiles. Applies the Scorch status effect. |
| Basic Skill B2 | Wildfire | Spin and charge forward, doing AoE damage and finishing off with a powerful flame strike. Applies Scorch. |
| QTE Skill 1 | Collapse | When an enemy is knocked down, you slam into them dealing extra damage and more stagger. |
| QTE Skill 2 | Obliteration | When a normal monster falls below 50% HP, teleport behind them and instakill the weakest enemies. |
| QTE Skill 3 | Rebuttal | When you use Deflect, you kick the target and inflict a powerful stagger. This is really good against bosses and can stun them for a few seconds. |
| Overdrive | Elementalist Overdrive | Summon a Glacier that applies Cold Ice, then boils away to Scorch enemies. |
Optional: You may want to replace one of your fire skills with Annihilation when you eventually unlock it. This summons a burning laser that hits enemies in a narrow line in front of Sung Jinwoo. Give it a try and swap out your least favorite skill if you want.
Elementalist Class Skill Tree
The table above shows you which skills to slot, but what about the passive features in the Elementalist Skill tree? For this, I recommend following the priority list below when leveling up your Elementalist in Solo Leveling: ARISE OVERDRIVE:
- Get the first three skills in the Ice tree
- Get the first three skills in the Fire tree
- Finish the Ice tree
- Finish the Fire tree
Alternatively, you can alternate between the two trees each time you pick a skill, if you’d prefer to improve them both at a balanced rate. It’s really up to you, and if you’re already at a high level then you can just unlock everything right away.
Important: You also need to unlock your Overdrive quite early on. This is the large skill in the middle of the tree, and it allows you to deal both cold and fire damage in quick succession by summoning a glacier in front of you to apply Cold Ice, then quickly boiling away to Scorch them too. This is unlocked with a different resource type to the regular skills, so just unlock it as soon as the game allows you to (progress through the first couple of main story chapters).
Weapon Skills
It takes quite a long time to upgrade the Skills in this category. We recommend following this priority order:
- Focus -> MP Research
- Focus Skill Damage Increase (Rank 1 only)
- Weakness Detection
- Enhance Chaos
- Mana Wave
- Focus -> Flowing Mana Power
- Focus Skill Damage Increase (both nodes to Rank 1 only)
- Enhance Mana
- Increased Max MP
- Mana Rampage
- Mana Combo
- Sword -> Heartsteel tree
- Sword Skill Damage Increase (Rank 1 only)
- Frontal Charge (Make sure to avoid Back Attacks from now on so you get the damage bonus)
- Sword Protection
- Attack Increase (Upgrade to Rank 3)
- Defense Increase (Rank 1 only)
- Heartsteel (start off your skill chains with your sword’s weapon skill to buff all of your subsequent skill damage)
- Sword -> Blade Resistance tree
- Sword Skill Damage Increase
- Attack and Guard (allows you to block attacks with a well-timed Basic Attack, preventing the need for blocking if you are very skilled with the timing. If you’re unable to master this technique, remove all points from the Blade Resistance tree and invest them elsewhere).
- Focus
- Return to the Focus category and purchase everything we missed earlier, such as fully upgrading the Focus Skill Damage Increases, Increased Max MP, Enhance Chaos, Enhance Overwhelm and Research Element.
It will take you quite a while to purchase all of these upgrades. After this point, you can gradually finish purchasing the missing nodes in the trees we started investing in.
Enhancement Skills
The Enhancement Skills are split into a Physique and Monarch’s Awakening category. We will be focusing on upgrading Physique in this guide. Once you’ve finished with that, you can choose to either fully upgrade all of the defensive Physique skills, or start upgrading your Monarch’s Awakening form (if you don’t know what that is, just keep playing the main story until you do).
Here is our upgrade priority for Sung Jinwoo’s Enhancement Skills for the Elementalist Build:
- Physique -> Body Enhancement I tree
- Attack Increase (upgrade to rank 3)
- Defense Increase (rank 1 only)
- HP Increase (rank 1 only)
- Attack Increase (upgrade to rank 3)
- Defense Increase (rank 1 only)
- HP Increase (rank 1 only)
- Attack Increase (upgrade to rank 3)
- Physique -> Body Enhancement II tree
- Critical Hit Rate Increase (upgrade to rank 3)
- Defense Penetration Increase (buy rank 1 of both of them, don’t upgrade them)
- Critical Hit Rate Increase (upgrade to rank 3)
- Left branch Defense Penetration Rank 1
- Left branch Damage Taken Decrease Rank 1
- Left branch Critical Hit Rate Increase Rank 3
- Right branch Defense Penetration Rank 1
- Right branch Damage Taken Decrease Rank 1
- Right branch Critical Hit Rate Increase Rank 3
- Now you can either fully upgrade the rest of these trees, or start upgrading your Monarch’s Awakening tree.
Elementalist Build Best Equipment – Arise Overdrive
Your equipment comes in two categories – weapons and armour. We will discuss these separately:
Sung Jinwoo Elementalist Build Best Weapons
You can have two weapons equipped at a time. The top weapon is your primary weapon and it will be associated with your Basic Skill Set A. The secondary weapon is associated with Basic Skill Set B. This allows you to have two different Basic Skills equipped depending on which weapon you are currently wielding.
For our Elementalist Build, we are using a Focus weapon as our main weapon (this is a grouping of magical weapons that includes the Sandstorm Cube and Grimoires), and a Sword as our secondary.
Main Weapon – Focus
See the table below for good Focus weapons you can use as you progress through Solo Leveling: ARISE OVERDRIVE. The end goal of the build is to get the weapon at the bottom of the table, but that will take a lot of grind so you should obtain the lower level options along the way to make the process easier.
Some weapons can be looted, but most of the time you obtain them via crafting.
| Weapon | Description |
|---|---|
Sandstorm Cube I |
The Sandstorm Cube I is the most basic magic weapon in Solo Leveling: ARISE OVERDRIVE. It gives you the Glittering Eyes skill, which summons a laser to shoot at enemies.
Being a starting weapon, the stats of Sandstorm Cube I are quite low, so aim to upgrade it to rank II when you reach around level 10-15. Click on the materials in the crafting menu and select “Source” to find out where to get each ingredient. |
Sandstorm Cube III |
Sandstorm Cube III has much better stats and an improved Glittering Eyes skill. It places a debuff on enemies that increases the amount of Light Damage they receive.
Since we won’t be focusing on Light Damage in this build and there are much stronger weapons we can get, we’ll be swapping this out for a Grimoire once you’ve levelled up enough to obtain the materials. |
Burning Demon’s Grimoire I |
You should be able to obtain the Burning Demon’s Grimoire some time between level 30 and 40.
We’ll be sticking with this Grimoire for a while, so familiarize yourself with the Rank 2 upgrade and look into obtaining the materials when you’re at a high enough level. This Grimoire grants you the Incinerate skill, summoning an intense Fire AoE that knocks enemies into the air. |
Burning Demon’s Grimoire III |
You should be able to get this by around Level 45-50. It has much better stats and using Incinerate will buff the damage of your Elementalist skills.
You can upgrade this another step to rank IV if you want, but we recommend focusing next on Thetis Grimoire I, which has much better upgrade potential. |
Thetis’ Grimoire IV |
To get Thetis’ Grimoire IV, you first need to craft the rank I, II and III versions. This is a high-level progression that will take you from around level 50-75 to finish.
Once you have Rank III of the Grimoire, you’ll need to defeat several high level bosses to get the materials for the final rank IV version. This actually isn’t as bad as many other S-Rank weapons in the game – most of the mateirals are craftable but you do need to farm Igris the Red at Level 71 and Fores (notorious for his annoying shield mechanic) but only at Level 58. It’s hardly a walk in the park, but it could be worse. You’ll be rewarded for your efforts with the best Grimoire in the game, with awesome stats and a skill that deals AoE damage, freezes enemies, grants you Super Armour and makes enemies more vulnerable to Water/Ice damage from your other skills. |
Secondary Weapon – Sword
Just like with the Magical Focus, progressing through the Sword crafting tree will take quite a lot of grinding and crafting. The table below shows several important milestones along the way.
| Weapon | Description |
|---|---|
Kim Sangshik’s Sword I |
This is your starting sword. It’s a decent starting weapon that deals some AoE damage, but it doesn’t add much to our Elementalist build.
You can upgrade it to rank II if you want, but after that we’ll be switching to a much better sword. |
Razan’s Blade I |
Razan’s Blade comes with a Flame Slash, which unfortunately doesn’t play into the Scorch status effect at all. However it is a decent single-target skill, coming in handy when you need extra boss damage.
Once again, I recommend upgrading this sword once to rank II, and then we’ll be swapping to a better sword. Remember to click on the materials in the crafting menu and select “Source” to find out which bosses drop the materials. |
Frostbite Falchion I |
Frostbite Falchion I has exactly the same stats as Razan’s Blade III, but slightly better upgrade potential and a better skill, so we recommend making the switch to this weapon instead of upgrading Razan’s Blade any further.
It comes with the Bitter Cold Wind skill, launching ice at the target and knocking them over. You should be able to obtain the materials for this sword at around level 35-40. When you can, upgrade to Frostbite Falchion II (usually around level 45-50). |
Frostbite Falchion III |
You’ll need to be around level 60-65 to get this sword, and you also need to craft Frost Falchion II as a prerequisite item.
This sword gives you an upgraded version of Bitter Cold Wind that launches several extra projectiles, has a higher chance to Freeze the target and buffs your damage against Normal Monsters. This is a great sword for our build, so you can stop here if you want. But there is one more optional weapon grind if you want to to get the best possible Attack and Defence stats. |
Demon King’s Longsword III |
In terms of stats, this is the best sword in the game. The Demon King’s Longsword grants the Final Thunderbolt skill, allowing you to summon a lightning strike that gives you brief damage immunity and electrocutes enemies.
The skill is less thematically suited to our build than the frost skill that comes with Frostbite Falchion, but the stats are better so it’s up to you if you want to take the tradeoff. If you do want to craft this sword, you’ll need to craft the rank I and II versions as prerequisites, and then farm some very high level bosses. |
Elementalist Build Best Armour
Your Armour includes four armour slots and four jewelry slots.
Always ensure you combine items from the same set so you get access to the additional 2x and 4x bonuses. Prioritise sets that boost your Attack (or Defense/HP if you’re struggling to beat some of the bosses).
Important: You can click on your armour and artefacts to Enhance them. Prioritise Enhancing your Bracelet and Gloves, because this will give you a decent buff to your Attack stat. I don’t recommend enhancing any of the other item slots until you’ve settled on a high-level set of armour, otherwise you’ll waste a lot of gold on low level items.
Here are our recommended armor/artefact sets for early game, mid game and late game.
Early Game Best Sets
In the early game, there aren’t many strong sets, so we just take whatever items we can get that will boost damage output. The Apprentice Mage set gives us a modest boost to Attack and Critical Damage, which makes for a decent DPS boost. The aquamarine set synergises very slightly with our ice magic, but it’s not a big deal.
- Armor Set: Apprentice Mage
- [2 Items] Slightly Increases Attack
- [4 Items] Increases Critical Hit Damage
- Jewelry Set: Aquamarine
- [2 Items] Very slightly increases Water Damage
- [4 Items] When you deal Water damage, there is a very small chance to apply the Cold Ice effect.
Mid Game Best Sets
High-Ranking Demon is a well-rounded set that boosts your attack and defense. This should help you out with the rather tricky bosses you’ll encounter around this time. Viridescent gives more damage boosts and slightly reduces your skill cooldowns.
- Armour Set: High-Ranking Demon
- [2 Items] Increases Attack and Defense
- [4 Items] Using a Basic Skill triggers a moderate chance to grant Super Armor, and will increase the user’s Basic Skill damage for a certain amount of time.
- Jewelry Set: Viridescent
- [2 Items] Very slightly reduces the user’s Basic Skill cooldown, but slightly increases their MP Consumption.
- [4 Items] Using the Basic Skill very slightly increases the user’s Basic Skill Damage Increase effect for a certain amount of time, stacking up to 10 times.
Late Game Best Sets
We’re using Almighty Shaman to boost your Attack and allow you to inflict Burn on the target almost constantly. The Beast set helps your overall DPS by ramping up your Critical Hit chance over the course of the battle.
- Armour Set: Almighty Shaman
- [2 Items] Significantly increases Attack
- [4 Items] When your Basic Skill hits, it has a chance to inflict Burn for a long period of time, dealing additional damage proportional to your Attackk.
- Jewelry Set: Beast
- [2 Items] Increases Critical Hit Damage
- [4 Items] If a Critical Hit isn’t activated, the chance of the next attack landing as a Critical Hit increases very slightly, stacking up to 30 times.
Elementalist Build Best Blessing Stones – Arise Overdrive
Blessing Stones are divided into two types – Survival and Empowerment. Sung Jinwoo can equip two of each type.
You will receive a few Blessing Stones by progressing through the main story, but the best way to obtain them is by farming Red Gate missions on the World Map, and later on by completing the Horizon of Eternity boss fights that are unlocked after completing the main story. Blessing Stones can drop in different Rarities, and higher Rarities will have more potent effects.
Below is our recommended Blessing Stone setup for this Sung Jinwoo Elementalist Build in Solo Leveling: ARISE OVERDRIVE:
| Blessing Stone | Description |
|---|---|
Weakness Detection |
The damage of skills in the Elementalist tree and your Elemental Accumulation Rate are greatly increased. |
Mana Rampage |
Your Damage Dealt increases, but your MP Consumption increases as well. |
Penalty Quest: Survival |
Each time you use Extreme Evasion, your Defense increases very slightly, stacking up to 10 times. At 10 stacks, you get a significant additional Defense boost. |
Camouflage |
Using Dash has a high chance to trigger Target Priority Decrease, making enemies less likely to attack you (ensure you raise your Shadow Soldiers to benefit from this). |
Best Supporting Hunters – Elementalist Build
Sung Jinwoo can choose three recruited Hunters to support him in combat. In most missions, the Hunters briefly appear and perform their Support Skill when a certain condition is met. Each Hunter can do this once per 45 seconds.
You can improve your strength significantly by selecting Hunters who have strong Support Skills that can be easily activated by your build and playstyle.
For the Solo Leveling: ARISE OVERDRIVE Elementalist Build, I recommend pairing Sung Jinwoo with the following Hunters:
| Hunter | Support Skill Description | Trigger Condition |
|---|---|---|
| Amamiya Mirei | Deals heavy damage to the target. | Triggers when you use Overdrive or apply an Elemental Reaction effect to a nearby enemy. |
| Park Heejin | Deals damage and makes the target weaker to your Elemental Damage | Use a QTE Skill, or have 3+ Normal Monsters nearby |
| Cha Hae-In | Deals heavy damage to the target. | When you use Dash Combo Attack twice within 5 seconds, or when you apply an Elemental Reaction. |
