The Trickster Vocation can be accessed fairly early in the story. The only quest needed is at the beginning of the game, In Dragon’s Wake. The Trickster is naturally obtained through following the main story quest during Flickering Shadows, but you can reach the Trickster Maister and access it earlier.

How to Unlock the Trickster Vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2
Now we are going to show you step-by-step how to unlock the Trickster Vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2.
How to Find Trickster Vocation Maister
The Trickster Vocation will present itself to you in the southern regions of the map, Battahl. The Trickster Maister is along the path of the Main Quest line during a series called Flickering Shadows. When sent to this region during the quest, you will be tasked with speaking with Luz, the Trickster Maister. She will unlock the Trickster Vocation immediately after speaking with her. But we can accomplish this sooner if preferred.
Take an Ox Cart from the West Gate of Vermund to the Checkpoint Rest Town.
Sneaking Past Checkpoint Rest Town
You can travel directly from the capital city Vermund to Maister Luz, but you must get past the Checkpoint Rest Town. Here are our options:
- Quests in Vermund will eventually provide papers you can present to the guards to pass freely. (Requires completing the Main Story Questing)
- Going around the Gate through a hidden western pass filled with enemies. (Difficult enemies early game and very long run back and forth)
- Sneaking through the gate (Requires Ferrystone to get back through)
Sneaking Through the Gate
This is an interesting rare achievement where you can sneak through the gate by entering a cart as it passes through the gate. The best strategy is to find a covered cart entering town at night. There is a bench at the front of town next to the Ox Cart waiting sign you can use. Pass time here until the Ox Cart in town is gone. Now check at night time for carts just outside town approaching. After a few nights you will find one entering with nobody aboard. Follow this cart up to the gates and enter it before it passes the gate. You can slip through undetected.
Again, you will need a ferrystone to get back through or use the western pass which is a long and dangerous road at lower levels.
Quests in Vermund
Speaking with Captain Brant can advance the main story quest and eventually give you access to the border pass you need at the Checkpoint. This will require a fair amount of questing and advancing of Act 1. Though it is the easiest way to unlock this vocation, if you want to get Trickster early in your playthrough, sneaking through the gate or taking the road around are your best options.
Beyond the Checkpoint Rest Town
Once you have passed the Checkpoint Rest Town, you are about a 10-minute run down the road to unlock the Trickster Vocation. You can follow the road and stay towards the East. These roads are mostly just goblins and potentially a Chimera may be in your path, which you can avoid if you choose. Follow the road along the river going south and you will see the Trickster’s Temple just East of it. The Trickster Maister, Luz, will be on top of the temple after you climb a ladder in the back.
Once you speak with Luz, you will have Unlocked the Trickster Vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2. You can now switch to the Trickster Vocation freely for your Arisen.
