Unlocking the Mystic Spearhand Vocation in DD2

Now we are going to show you step-by-step how to unlock the Mystic Spearhand Vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

To unlock the Mystic Spearhand Vocation, you need to speak to the Sigurd, a dragon-hunter who is the meister for this vocation. He is recognisable by his hooded figure and large double-bladed weapon. It’s possible to unlock this vocation quite early in the game, but it’s easy to miss the first opportunity – there are three possible locations where you can find Sigurd, depending on how far you have progressed the main story and the passage of time.

The three different methods of finding Sigurd and unlocking Mystic Spearhand are detailed below.

First Method to Unlock the Mystic Spearhand Vocation – Melve

This is the earliest chance to unlock the Mystic Spearhand Vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2 – you can do it after just a few hours of playtime. The first step is to progress the main story until you meet Captain Brant in Vernworth. After speaking to him in the Inn, he will give you a quest called Monster Culling. Complete this quest, and then return to Melve, the small town that was burned down by a dragon attack.

Upon returning to Melve, you should find that a dragon is once again attacking the town, and you’ll receive a new quest called the Readvent of Calamity. If there is no dragon to be seen, then try advancing time by a few days by camping, staying at an inn or waiting at a seat. The objective of the quest is to help the residents of the town repel the dragon. You don’t need to kill the dragon – depleting its HP sufficiently will cause it to flee.

After winning the fight, look around the area and you should be able to find Sigurd. If you can’t find him, rest at the Inn and search again. When you find Sigurd, talk to him and ask him about his fighting style, and he will give you access to the Mystic Spearhand Vocation.

If you missed this early opportunity to speak with Sigurd then don’t worry, you can still find him in other locations (see below).

Second Method – Harve Village

If you missed Sigurd in Melve, then the next potential location for you to find him is inside a coastal hut in Harve Village. Sigurd travels around a lot so if you are unlucky then he might not be there the first time you visit. Explore the area and complete other quests and keep checking back, and he should eventually appear.

Once you find him, it’s the same as with the first method – speak with him and ask him about his fighting style to learn the Mystic Spearhand Vocation for yourself.

Third Method – Dragonsbreath Tower

The final location in which you can find Sigurd is near Battahl, at Dragonsbreath Tower. Travel from Battahl City to the Southwest along the roads.  You will have to climb a treacherous path up a mountain road as you approach Dragonsbreath Tower.  Approach this climb cautiously and beware of boulders and consistent groups of enemies engaging you.  As you near the top, you will find Sigmund, but he will require you to kill a drake with him first.

You will encounter many goblins and harpies that will attempt to fling you from the cliffside.  Take this path slowly and keep your pawns protected.  There is a campfire and stone to resummon your pawns at the top if you lose them along the way.  Here you will meet Sigurd who will ask to join your party for this battle.  It is advised to rest with a good piece of aged meat if you are doing this battle earlier on in your levels.

Battling the Drake Upon Dragonsbreath Tower

Sigurd will assist you in this battle and will shield you from attacks as well.  The key to this battle is striking the dragon’s pustules.  This will inflict high damage as a weak point and bring the beast to a downed state to add more punishing damage.  There are easy to strike ones on its legs for melee, but a grouping of multiple on its head.

Focusing explosive strikes on the head of this drake will bring it down quickly.  A Sorcerer with Prescient Flare fired upon its head will bring this beast down very quickly and may be an advised setup if you can put it together.
