This Dragon’s Dogma 2 Mystic Spearhand Build is a blend of melee damage with supplementary magick damage.  The Mystic Spearhand juggles a melee playstyle while also leveraging its bolts playstyle at the same time.  As the Mystic Spearhand Vocation is a Hybrid Vocation, it requires a quest to unlock. Starting with the Thief or Archer will provide more effective melee damage later on, but it will benefit from a variety of all Vocations as you cannot access it very early on.

For a full listing of all of the Mystic Spearhand skills, please see the Dragon’s Dogma 2 Mystic Spearhand Guide. If you want to unlock the Mystick Spearhand check out our How to Unlock the Mystic Spearhand Vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2 guide.

Mystic Spearhand Skills

Here we will discuss the Skills used on the Dragon’s Dogma 2 Mystic Spearhand Build.  The Mystic Spearhand Build uses the following Skills:

Situational Skills

Dragoun’s Stabbe – [ Dragoun’s Foin ]

A standard gap closer but with the ability to traverse upward and horizontally through the air.  Great to engaging and relocating in the fight.  Can be used to immediately close distance when not using a Bolt to do so.  Effective at flinching targets, this is a great opener on smaller targets.  Outside of fighting this skills is great for maneuvering terrain.  It is comprobale to levitate but lacks the vertical control to reach distant ledges.

Mirour’s Vesture – [ Mirour’s Shelde ]

This is a short term invulnerability shield that applies in a wide radius for your entire party.  This skills doesn’t cost much stamina to maintain considering we have Thef’s Hond to use.  Therefore, this can provide constant immunity for your party to damage and even effects allowing you to maintain a nonstop offensive posture at no significant cost.  This is put in here by necessity for enabling the strength of the build, but is considerably overpowered when well maintained.

Thef’s Hond – [ Ravinour’s Hond ]

This is an effective skill to keep the assault from ever ending.  This drains stamina very quickly once upgraded and can be used to replenish a near empty stamina bar.  This will allow us to endlessly attack and mix in Fangtooth and bolt combos while we punish larger creatures.

Wild Furie

The Maister’s Teaching allows us to quickly run through groups of targets.  This is a phenomenal catch all which lets us isolate larger creatures if need be while they assault with a pack of other smaller enemies.  Larger enemies are focused with the rest of this build.  If you have a Mage pawn in party with Celestial Paean, this skill can be spammed on larger creatures if youre able to strike their weak spot from a grounded position, such as a dragon.  Even without Celestial Paean, this can be used in conjunction with Thef’s Hond to maintain an effective damage burst that can be ended relatively quickly.

Situational Skills

These could be switched out with Mirour’s Vesture given how it provides a nonstop immunity for any combat situation.  Other Mystic Spearhand skills can be situational but very enjoyable to use such as Unto Skie or Humble Offering.

Skiedragoun’s Fangtooth – [ Skiedragoun’s Feste]

A powerful evasive tool which also deals great damage that is boosted by successful dodges.  One of the great perks is it’s very effective for climbing up top on dragons and griffons putting you in a position to punish them without needing to use stamina to climb up.  When surrounded, time this skill to dodge attacks and follow up with a heavy if flinched or into light attacks.

Seching Blade – [ Seching Storm ]

While this is not a necesity skill it’s worth mentioning this could be added in place as well to increase your damage output.  While it is a bit more action intensive gameplay, this can be cheaply spammed and provide small orbs that will automatically strike.  They can keep being replaced and firing during your normal attacks on larger targets.  This will not change the attack sequence in any way to your normal fights, but add on another layer during all phases.  You willl still drain stamina back and repeat, all while adding in these Magick damage.

Core Skills for the Mystic Spearhand Build in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Here we will discuss the Core Skills (Passives) used on the Dragon’s Dogma 2 Mystic Spearhand Build.  All Core skills can be learned and are passively applied.

Twein Cut – An effective paced light attack that is not too slow but not too weak.  Used to open up Winding Cut combos as needed for medium sized targets that require more attacks.  For Mystic Spearhand, make your attacks slowly or you will find yourself spamming Winding Cut often by pressing this twice too quickly.  Mystic Spearhand is not as fast as a Thief but not as slow as a Warrior.  It is somewhere inbetween and decisive attacks should be made as such.

Magike Cut – The heavy attack for Mystic Spearhand which will be often used on any flinched or downed targets.  As we will be mounting larger targets, this will be used quite frequently then as well on weak spots.  If not used on a flinched target, it does a quick downward slash that will follow with a ranged projectile in that direction.  This can be used between charging bolts.

Redouted Bolt – A quick vocational action that allows us to flinch small targets and follow up with Quik Fot or Dragoun’s Stabbe to quickly engage smaller to medium targets.  Outside of flinching small targets, its simply used for its relocation effect.

Forbeding Bolt –  A better tool for larger targets or flying targets to reach and engage them directly.  Additionally, it should be weaved during attacking larger foes to limit their move speed and attack speed allowing you longer windows of punishment for you and your pawns.

Scatering Bolt – Applies a snare after Foreding Bolt further slowing targets for longer windows to attack.

Quik Fot – A secondary means of gap closer and effective at reaching larger flying targets.  Can be used in conjunction with a follow up Dragoun’s Stabbe to reach and grab onto targets.  This technique takes some practice.  Timing along with other skills can be practiced with grounded targets.  Thus, this should be activated after Forbeding Bolt on larger targets as it will freeze them temporarily.  However on smaller targets, Redouted can be used.

Ferrene Bolt – A simple upgrade for the range of Redouted Bolt.

Winding Cut – A windmill attack that is great on targets that are on the move or groups that are engaging in a pile.  A good use of stamina-free attacks that lets us adjust slightly.

DD2 Mystic Spearhand Build Vocation Class

Augments

Here we will discuss the Augments used on the Dragon’s Dogma 2 Mystic Spearhand Build. Please note that you will need to partially or fully level up the Archer, Thief and Sorcerer Vocations to access all of the suggested Augments. If you don’t yet have them all unlocked, it’s fine to use something else in the meantime.

  • Endurance (Archer Vocation) – Increases your Maximum Stamina.
  • Lethality (Archer Vocation) – Increases your damage dealt when striking a target’s vitals.
  • Verve (Thief Vocation) – Improves your Strength.
  • Ambuscade (Archer Vocation) – Increases damage dealt by your attacks when targets are not in battle stance.
  • Sagacity (Sorcerer Vocation) – Augments your Magick.
  • Athleticism (Mystic Spearhand Vocation) – Reduces Stamina consumed while dashing.

Optimal Party Setup for the Mystic Spearhand Build in DD2

This Dragon’s Dogma 2 Mystic Spearhand Build functions primarily as a damage dealer with utility for longer attack windows, therefore we will add a Warrior tank and healer roster around it.  Thus we would benefit from the following pawn members:

  • Warrior Vocation – Included for drawing aggression and acting as a front line for the party.  With slower attacks mixed in and the ability to easily deal with crowds, our tank will have more opportunity to attack and supplement our damage.
  • Mage Vocation – This will support our group and front-line healer and buffer with Celerity.  Celerity will be highly beneficial here and may be useful to have them as a main pawn as such.
  • Sorcerer or Thief – Sorcerer will bring us more of the elemental damage that we lack.  However, the thief could bring more single-target damage and offer a potential for high killing power on larger targets.

Equipment

This is a setup that you can work towards obtaining as you progress through the game – it is quite expensive especially if you plan to fully upgrade everything, but if you get everything then your character will be very powerful. The weapon Dead Ringer can be obtained by completing Sigurd’s battle and will also unlock the Maister’s Skill, Wild Furie.  This is absolutely worth doing if you plan on investing in a Mystic Spearhand.  Upgrading this weapon with Battali enchantments will quickly turn your Mystic Spearhand into a higher damage setup.

Don’t worry if cannot obtain everything on the list right now – just equip the best you have for the time being and replace or upgrade later on when you can.

Item Slot Item Description Where to Find
Weapon Dead Ringer With 355 Strength and Magick, this is the strongest Duospear available before beating the game. 12% chance to drop from Lesser Dragons. Purchase from various Smithies for 56,000G.

Legs Arena Breeches Strong Defence and some extra Debilitation Resistances. Purchase from Volcanic Island Armoury for 33,000G.
Cloak Any Cloaks have a fairly minor impact on stats, so use your best one or the one you find the most visually appealing N/A
Left Ring Ring of Acclamation Increases Maximum Health by 200. You can replace this with something else if you’re comfortable with surviving already. Purchase from Apothecaries for 8,000G. Also occasionally drops from Liches and Minotaurs.
Right Ring Ring of Aggression Increases Strength by 30. Occasionally drops from Knackers.

Please note that the purchasable items in the table above may not become available until you progress through the game to a certain point – if you are low level then you will only see fairly weak items in vendors.

When you are levelling up and improving your gear, prioritize improving your weapon first unless you are struggling too much with staying alive. When you’re unable to upgrade your weapon further, then focus on improving your armour. With your jewellery, look to include extra survival as needed until you’re more comfortable, at which point you can focus on Strength jewellery.

When collecting equipment for your build, you may struggle with your Carrying Capacity being too low, especially in the early game. Fortunately, this is something that can be increased in various ways. We have a guide that explains all of the ways to improve Carry Capacity.

Equipment Upgrades

We recommend upgrading your equipment with the Battahli Smithing Style for an increase in the Strength stat of your gear, buffing your damage output. However, Vermundian is also a viable choice if you prefer a more balanced stat distribution.
