Welcome to the Siege Guide for Throne & Liberty. Sieging is a new feature in Throne & Liberty, with the first-ever siege in the game taking place on the 2nd of February 2024. Sieges are large-scale PvP events involving guilds who will fight for control of Stoneguard Castle.

In this guide we will explain how sieges work and how you can participate in them.

Initial Siege Timeline

Sieges are held every two weeks. the regular siege dates can be viewed on the Throne and Liberty Event Calendar going forward. Sieges will also be announced with the Throne and Liberty Discord Bot.

Siege Rules Throne and Liberty

Please note that the term “Legion” refers to the guild currently in control of the Castle during a Siege.

The first Legion of the first Siege will be the guild ranked first at the end of “Dazzling Growth” in Chapter 5 of the Chronicles. In later sieges, the Legion at the beginning of the siege will be whoever ended the previous siege in control of Stoneguard Castle.

Sieges last approximately one hour and take place in the following order

  • Phase 1: Siege Standby (21:00 – 21:15) – Fifteen minutes before the start of the Siege, a Siege Pending alarm will appear, blocking access to the Stoneguard’s Legion Lair, Estates, Teleportation Stones, Crafters, and Traders.
  • Phase 2: Siege Progression (21:15-22:00) – When the Siege begins, players inside the Castle and near its walls, except for Legionnaires, will be moved to the nearest Town.
However, if you are outside of a vacant ruin, you will not be forced to move.

Entering the Outer Castle

Once the Siege Progression phase begins, the siege will be considered active and the following rules and objectives will apply in Stoneguard Castle:

Player-versus-player combat becomes possible, and the walls, towers, gateframes, and gates can be destroyed. There are three gates, two outer gates and one inner gate, which can be destroyed to gain entry. The outer gate can be opened and closed by simultaneously operating two levers on top of the castle tower. The back and side gates of the inner castle can also be opened and closed by simultaneously operating two levers.

Entering the Inner Castle

When entering the Inner Castle, Guild Leaders of non-Legion Guilds can interact with the Throne. Upon completion of the interaction, the Guild Leader will be transformed into a “usurper,” and if the usurper survives within the designated area for 3 minutes, the castle will be claimed.

The usurper takes less damage based on the number of allies nearby, so it’s best to stick together with your guildmates to defend the usurper as much as possible. If the usurper leaves the designated area or dies, they will be untransformed. If the usurper survives and captures the castle, other guilds can still claim the throne until the siege ends.

Phase 3: Overtime (up to 3 minutes from 22:00)

At the end of the 45-minute Siege period, if the Throne Battle is still in progress, the game will enter an overtime period of up to 3 minutes. If a successful or unsuccessful Claim to the Throne occurs during the Overtime, the Siege ends immediately.

Siege strategy elements in Throne and Liberty

Sieges contain various strategic elements that can be utilized to impact the battle in various ways. These are detailed below.

Plunder Zones and Spawn Zones

Stoneguard Castle has Plunder Zones and Spawn Zones, which can be captured by any member of a guild participating in the Siege, but the time required to do so varies depending on the guild’s rank. Guilds of Guardian rank and above can take over faster due to shorter interaction times.

  • Plunder Zone – Capturing a Plunder Zone during the duration of a Siege allows you to loot its accumulated Taxes every five minutes, which can be distributed after the Siege ends, regardless of whether you win or lose. The Legion must defend or retake the province to avoid having less tax to distribute.
  • Spawn Zones – Capturing a Spawn Zone allows players to respawn there when they die and quickly rejoin the battle. Spawn Points should be used strategically, as they not only provide resurrection but also function as Teleportation Stones.

Golems

Golems can be transformed by interacting with Sealing Stones near Siege Ruins, and the Golem Slabs required to transform a Golem can be purchased from the Guild Vendor.

You can use the following Golem types during sieges:

Golem Type Function First Activation Time Cooldown Time Transformation Duration Entry into Inner Castle?
Stone Crasher Destroys Castle Walls Immediately 5 minutes 7 minutes No
Battle Carrier Place Allies on Castle Walls After 5 minutes 5 minutes 4 minutes No
Gate Hammer Destroy Gates After 10 minutes 5 minutes 6 minutes Yes
Jump Attacker Jump up and attack enemies Immediately 5 minutes 9 minutes Yes

After the transformation duration runs out or when your HP reaches 0, the golem will untransform.

If you don’t use the Siege Golems, it will take a lot of time to destroy gates and walls, so you should focus on destroying them within the transformation duration. The Siege Golems can only be transformed by guild members with Guard rank or higher, and the transformation is tied to the character’s stats, so characters with higher stats have an advantage.

Siege Golem Sealing Stones can be used by capturing Siege Ruins, and Siege Ruins can also be used as Spawn Points or Teleport Stones, so it’s important to capture them. Unlike Spawn Points, only one Siege Ruin can be captured per Guild. Siege Ruins can only be captured by guild members with Guard rank or higher. Legions can capture Siege Ruins but cannot transform into Siege Golems.

Alternative Strategies

You can use the following strategic variables to help you win against stronger Legions.

  • Inner and outer sewers – You can use the inner and outer sewers to enter the castle. However, the inner sewers fill up with water when it rains, making entry impossible.
  • Gigantites – When the Gigantite passes near the castle, it will descend and allow you to enter the interior.

Siege rewards

In this section, we will detail the rewards you can obtain by participating in (and winning) sieges.

Territory Management

Guilds that are selected as Legionnaires through eventual victory will earn Occupation Effects, Guild Resources, and Activity Points while occupying Stoneguard Castle.

Guild Leaders who are selected as Legion can manage various things through the Manage Province menu.

  • Adjust Tax Rate – Adjust the tax rate, which is set at 2% by default.
  • Manage Specialities – You can adjust the purchasing authority for specialities sold by the Guild Merchant (such as Queen Blendy’s Poison Neutraliser).
  • Stronghold Management – You can repair damaged Strongholds between sieges to prepare them for the next siege.

Tax accumulation method

When a transaction occurs on the exchange, a percentage of the transaction price is accumulated as tax, which is set to the province tax rate (2% by default), excluding the 20% that is burned by the system. Approximately 90% of the tax is accumulated in Stoneguard Castle and 10% in Vienta Village, and you can check the accumulated tax through the village tooltip on the Map. (Note that if a decimal point occurs in the tax calculation process, it will be transferred to Stoneguard Castle, resulting in some differences from the default percentage).

Siege Rewards

Based on the ‘waiting time’ on the day of the siege, 40% of the accumulated taxes in Stoneguard Castle will be set as siege compensation. The remaining 60% of taxes that are not used in this siege will be used in the next siege and future content to be released. If Tax Transportation, which will be opened later through Chronicles, is successful, Vienta Village Tax will be added to the siege reward.

The allocated siege reward is divided into a ratio of 5:5 and stored in the siege vault and 5 plunder sites. The Siege Vault is the capture reward for the Legion that captures the ‘Throne’ of Stoneguard Castle. There are five Plunder Zones in total, and every five minutes, approximately 15% of the resources allocated to the Guild occupying the Plunder Zone will be instantly awarded (up to seven times).

Reward Distribution

After the end of the Siege, the Legion that captured Stoneguard Castle will receive the sum of the taxes in the Siege Vault and the taxes remaining after looting. A Guild that has become a Legion can divide the taxes earned among Guilds that are friendly with them (up to 3), either equally or differentially.
