We recently reported on the Oakensoul Ring Mythic Item which had insane stats and boosted dps numbers super high (107k dps) for one bar builds in ESO (The Elder Scrolls Online). Well, the party didn’t last long, the ring already got nerfed on the High Isle test server and players aren’t happy about it.

Let us take a look what happened to the ring and why many ESO players are upset about how the devs “adjusted” the mythic item.

Oakensoul Ring pre-nerf

  • 1 – Adds 3737 Maximum Health
  • 1 – Adds 3737 Maximum Magicka
  • 1 – Adds 3737 Maximum Stamina
  • 1 – Adds 450 Weapon and Spell Damage
  • 1 – Adds 5280 Armor
  • 1 – Adds 450 Health Recovery
  • 1 – Adds 450 Magicka Recovery
  • 1 – Adds 450 Stamina Recovery
  • 1 – Adds 1973 Critical Chance (Roughly 8-9% Crit)
  • 1 – While equipped, you are unable to swap between your Primary and Backup Weapon Sets.

Oakensoul Ring post-nerf

As you can see the extra resources for the Oakensoul Ring are the same. However, all the other unique stats got turned into Major buffs. Now at first this might actually not look so bad because the values are pretty much identical.

However, pre-nerf the ring had unique stat bonuses which could be stacked on top of other Major buffs. Now, the ring offers you mostly Major buffs which obviously can’t be stacked with the same Major type buffs. Most Major buffs are present in group play anyway, therefore the ring took a huge hit if not a deathblow. On the other hand, the ring is still very powerful for solo gameplay because in most cases you won’t actually get access to all these buffs on one bar.

Yes, the ring was definitely overpowered. But we would have still preferred the other version even if all the stats were cut in half. Now the Major buffs make the ring a lot less appealing and might not be anymore our favorite Myhtic Item to farm in the High Isle Chapter in ESO.

Here is a quick example of how much the nerf impacted DPS on the 21 million raid target dummy on the exact same build in ESO:

  • First image: 107k dps
  • Second image: 97k dps

Overall the dps numbers are still very high, at least on the Stamina Sorcerer One Bar Build.

The Oakensoul Ring will still be very useful for solo One Bar Builds. However, in group play there are definitely better options, even though you could still technically use the ring because the extra resources are still very nice.

One Bar Builds are currently created on the AlcastHQ ESO Hub account if you want to take a look, still work in progress though.
