Alt Characters in ESO
Alternative Character in ESO or alt character is a term for all of your characters that isn’t your main character. Your main character is usually the one you play and like the most, but some people don’t have a main character at all and instead play equally on multiple characters.
You DO NOT need to complete any Scribing Quests on your alt character to be able to earn Luminous Ink and Scripts IF one of your characters has completed all of the Luminary Wings.
ESO Sigil of the Luminary Indrik, Sigil of the Luminary Dragon, Sigil of the Luminary Netch and Sigil of the Luminary Gryphon.
ESO Scribing System account wide unlocks- only need to complete once
Completing the Luminary Wings will unlock Sigils, that are account wide, but what does it mean? As an example, when you unlock Sigil of the Indrik, this means all of your characters will get Luminous Ink from monsters without doing any Scribing Quests.
You only need to do the Luminary Wing questlines once and all of your alts are able get Luminous Ink and Scripts!
Focus, Signature and Affix Scripts won’t drop from the daily quests until you complete it’s wing mentioned below. Once you’ve completed a Luminary Wing you can start grinding scripts for all of the characters you want to use the ESO Scribing System on.

- Luminous Ink can rarely found in heavy sacks.
- Requires completion of Wing of the Gryphonon one character
- Luminous Ink can rarely found in treasure chests
- Requires completion of Wing of the Dragon on one character
- Focus Scripts from daily Delve quests, daily Mages Guild quests, and PvP Rewards for the Worthy for all of your characters.
- Requires completion of Wing of the Gryphon on one character
- Signature Scripts from Daily World Boss quests, daily Cyrodiil quests, and daily Fighters Guild quests for all of your characters.
- Requires completion of Wing of the Dragon on one character
- Mages Guild Subsidized Script chase
- Requires completion of Wing of the Dragon on one character
- Class Mastery Signature Script chase
- Requires completion of Wing of the Dragon on one character
- Affix Scripts from daily World Event quests, daily Imperial City quests, and daily Undaunted quests for all of your characters.
- Requires completion of Wing of the Netch on one character
- Soul Burst for your first character (no need to buy) and your other characters can buy it from the Scholarium Merchant for 10,000 Gold.
- Requires completion of Wing of the Crow, the Final Quest on one character
ESO Scribing System character specific unlocks – need to do on all characters
You will be able to get Luminous Ink and Scripts on all characters immediately after you’ve completed the Luminary Wings mentioned above on one character. You will not be able to access the Scribing Altar to Scribe Skills until you complete the Second Era of Scribing, Tutorial Quest. The Scribing Tutorial Quest takes approximately 5-10 minutes to complete.
The biggest ESO Scribing Grind comes from acquiring all the different Scripts for your alt characters. You will need an addon to track alt characters scripts as achievements are account wide.

- need to be either farmed from dailies, picked from the ground (Mages Guild Script Chase) or bought from the Scholarium Merchants and Infinite Archive weekly rotating wares.
Scripts are not account wide. You will need to farm or buy each script separately for each of your characters however you are able to deposit them into your bank to give them to your other characters.
Best ways to farm Scripts for your main and alt characters in ESO
ESO Mages Guild and Class Mastery Script Chases
Mages Guild Subsidized Script chase and Class Mastery Script Chase are instantly active for your alt characters once you’ve completed Wing of the Dragon.
- You are able to pick up a Mages Guild Subsidized Script and before you use it you can deposit in the bank and another one will spawn instantly. This way you can get them for all your alts without needing to travel, but keep in mind that the Scripts don’t stack and will take a lot of space in your bank.
- Class Mastery Script Chase only needs to be completed on one character. After acquiring 50 Class Script Scraps once, you will be able to buy the Class Mastery Script from the Scholarium Merchant.
Farming Dailies for Scripts in ESO
100% Guaranteed Script drop from the first daily coffer of each different type of daily quest and a 25% chance for a repeated daily of that type for your account. Nine guaranteed Script drops per day. No duplicate Scripts will drop until you have received all on that character. You can use the achievements to keep track of the Scripts you own: Focus Script Mastery, Affix Script Mastery, Signature Script Mastery, A Signature with Class.

All players, regardless of Gold Road ownership, have a very small chance to receive Scripts via world drops, which are unbound and tradeable.
The ESO Scribing Vendor (Scholarium Merchant) Chronicler Firandil
Chronicler Firandil will sell all Grimoires for 50,000 gold (10,000 Gold for an alt) and he will also have a weekly rotating selection of Scripts for you to purchase for the Scribing system.
- Focus Scripts – 40,000 Gold (8,000 G for alt)
- Signature Scripts – 60,000 Gold (12,000 G for alt)
- Affix Scripts – 20,000 Gold (4,000 G for alt)
If you have completed “The Wing of the Indrik“, Chronicler Firandil will be at his station in the Scholarium immediately upon completing “The Second Era of Scribing” on alt characters.
The ESO Scribing Vendor (Scholarium Merchant) Chronicler Firandil prices change when you’ve bought the Grimoire or Script he offers on one character.
The Infinite Archive Merchant, Filer Ool
Filer Ool can be found in the entrance area of the Infinite Archive in Apocrypha and in addition to his usual wares, he will also have a weekly rotating selection of Scripts for you to purchase for the Scribing system.
- Focus Scripts – 15,000 Archival Fortunes (2,000 AF for alt)
- Signature Scripts – 20,000 Archival Fortunes (3,000 AF for alt)
- Affix Scripts– 10,000 Archival Fortunes (4,000 AF for alt)
