As of Update 49 (March 9, 2026), Stablemasters across Tamriel sell 20 mounts for gold. The original three horses are available at every Stablemaster in the game. The 17 new mounts added in U49 are distributed across different zones, generally matching the theme of the area. One of those 17, the Ebon Dwarven Horse, is a brand-new mount that has never been available through the Crown Store or any other source.
You don’t need any special achievements, DLC subscriptions or quest completions to buy these mounts. You just need the gold and access to the zone.

These mounts were added to Stablemasters in Update 49. Sixteen were previously Crown Store or limited-time mounts. The Ebon Dwarven Horse is the one exception, it’s entirely new and has never been available through any other source!

The Ashbone Sabre Cat is one of five big cat mounts now available for gold from Stablemasters, sitting at the 100,000 gold price tier.It was previously only obtainable through the Crown Store, so U49 makes it permanently accessible without spending real money. The Bay Dun Horse is one of three basic horses that have been available from Stablemasters since launch. Its price was reduced from 42,700 gold to 25,000 gold in Update 49, making it a much more accessible first mount for new players.

The Bleakrock Snowdog is one of two wolf mounts now available for gold from Stablemasters, and at 50,000 gold it’s one of the more affordable options in the U49 lineup.
It was previously only obtainable through the Crown Store. Glenumbra is a base game zone so you can pick this up without any DLC if you head there instead of Galen.

Originally hailing from Bleakrock Isle, these blue-eyed canines love playing in the frosty air and snow. The locals apparently had to bring them inside at night just so they weren’t woken up by their antics in the morning.

The Ebon Dwarven Horse is the most expensive and the rarest mount in the U49 Stablemaster lineup at 400,000 gold.
Unlike all 16 other new mounts, it has never been sold through the Crown Store or obtained through any other method. This is the only way to get it. It requires the Clockwork City DLC to access and is sold from a single Stablemaster with no alternative locations.

Though most ancient Dwemer automata are constructed primarily of Dwarven Metal, some rare animunculus mounts use a preponderance of Ebony. Creations like the Ebon Dwarven Horse are said to be especially durable.

The Faunfrolic Great Elk has the widest distribution of any mount in the U49 Stablemaster lineup, available from 5 locations across 3 zones.
Two of those zones, Grahtwood and Malabal Tor, are base game so you don’t need any DLC to access it. At 200,000 gold it sits in the upper-mid price tier, and it’s the only Deer type mount now available for gold.

Inspired by the knights of Castle Navire, a band of Fauns decided to breed elks as their mounts. They stopped when they realized their hooves made it difficult to ride and that they could run just as fast as the elks could.
The Frostborn Durzog Mangler is the only Durzog mount now available for gold and sits at 200,000 gold. Coldharbour is the only base game option, making it the most accessible location if you want to avoid DLC requirements.

The magic of the Icereach Coven shapes these striped durzogs in the womb, and handlers train the pups to the saddle. To transfer loyalty to a new rider, that rider should sleep with the saddle for a few days before attempting to mount.
The Hammerfell Camel is the only Camel type mount now available for gold from Stablemasters, sitting at the accessible 50,000 gold price tier.
It was previously a Crown Store exclusive. Alik’r Desert is a base game zone so you can buy it without any DLC, and Hew’s Bane is the alternative if you happen to be in the area with the Thieves Guild DLC.

The Hearthfire Kagoutiis sold from a single Stablemaster in Deshaan with no alternative locations anywhere in the game. It’s one of two Guar and Kagouti mounts now available for gold and sits at the 100,000 gold tier. Deshaan is a base game zone so no DLC is required.

The Hearthfire Kagouti appears to be a magical hybrid, a wizard’s experimental melding of a carnivorous reptile and a flame atronach. The fact that they were first sighted in the Telvanni Grazelands lends this theory some credence.
The Highland Spotted Lynx is one of five big cat mounts now available for gold from Stablemasters, sitting at the 100,000 gold tier.
It was previously a Crown Store exclusive. Craglorn is a base game zone and offers one location without any DLC requirement and Summerset adds two more if you have that chapter.
Where to buy the Highland Spotted Lynx: Available across Craglorn and Summerset (Summerset).
This spotted lynx was an uncommon sight in the Colovian hills until an enterprising hunter brought back some young to raise. Decades later, these lithe creatures serve as mounts for those who prefer felines over horses.
The Ja’zennji Siir Fox is one of two wolf type mounts now available for gold from Stablemasters, at the affordable 50,000 gold price point.
It was previously a Crown Store exclusive. Auridon is a base game zone so no DLC is needed, and Blackwood adds two more locations if you have that chapter.

The Rubyflare Torchnix is the only Nix-Ox type mount now available for gold from Stablemasters.
Vvardenfell is a base game zone so you can pick it up without any DLC from either Balmora or Vivec City. Telvanni Peninsula adds a third location if you have the Necrom chapter.

The Senche-Cougaris one of five big cat mounts now available for gold and one of the more affordable at 50,000 gold. All three of its locations are confined to Reaper’s March, a base game zone, so no DLC is required. It was previously a Crown Store exclusive.

The cliffs and escarpments of east central Elsweyr are home to the nimble and sure-footed Senche-Cougars, who prowl the rocks hunting goats and marmots. Inevitably, they’ve been domesticated by their feline cousins the Khajiit.
The Shadowghost Guar is one of two Guar and Kagouti mounts now available for gold from Stablemasters, and at 50,000 gold it’s one of the more affordable options in the lineup.
Both Shadowfen and Stonefalls are base game zones, so you have multiple DLC-free options. Murkmire adds a third location if you have that DLC, and it was previously a Crown Store exclusive.

Blending in with the shifting gray ash clouds on the slopes of Red Mountain, the Shadowghost Guar are the only known nocturnal breed of the species and thus are rarely seen, even by native Dark Elves.
The Snow Bear is the only Bear type mount now available for gold from Stablemasters, sitting at the affordable 50,000 gold tier. It’s one of a small number of mounts where all locations require DLC, as both The Reach and Wrothgar are paid zones. It was previously a Crown Store exclusive.

The Spotted Duneracer Senche-rahtis the only Senche-Raht type mount now available for gold from Stablemasters, sitting at the 200,000 gold tier. While you’re at a Stablemaster picking up one of these mounts, it’s worth knowing that riding training also changed significantly in Update 49.

No. The 17 exotic mounts added in U49 are distributed across specific Stablemasters in zones that match the mount’s regional flavor. Only the three basic horses (Bay Dun, Brown Paint and Midnight Steed) are available at every Stablemaster in the game.
No. As long as you have the gold and access to the zone, you can buy any of these mounts immediately. There are no quest prerequisites, reputation requirements or achievement gates.
It depends on the mount. Some are available in base game zones and require no DLC at all. Others are only sold by Stablemasters in DLC zones, so you’ll need to own that DLC or have an active ESO Plus membership to reach them. ESO Plus gives you access to most DLC zones as long as your subscription is active, which covers the majority of locations in this guide. The exception is Vvardenfell, which is now a base game zone and requires no subscription. Each mount profile above lists the DLC requirement per location.
Yes. As of U49, the mounts are physically present at their Stablemaster locations, standing in or near the stable with nameplates. You can see exactly what you’re buying before you spend any gold.
No. The Ebon Dwarven Horse is exclusive to the Stablemaster system introduced in U49. It has never been available through the Crown Store or any other source, and the only place to buy it is from the Stablemaster in the Brass Fortress, Clockwork City.
Each riding training session now grants 3 upgrades instead of 1. Training cooldown still resets at the daily reset time. Crown Riding Lessons were not affected and still grant only 1 upgrade per use.
