Welcome to our Carry Capacity Guide for Dragon’s Dogma 2.
Carry Capacity is a severe limiting factor in DD2, and in the early game, it can feel like you become encumbered after picking up just a couple of items. Therefore, one of the most important aspects of your character progression is addressing this problem.
In this short guide, we will explain the different ways you can increase your Carry Capacity in DD2.
Increasing your Carrying Capacity in DD2
Luckily, there are a few different ways in which you can improve your Carrying Capacity in Dragon’s Dogma 2, and you can get started on them very early in your playthrough.
Make a Huge Character
You can actually improve your Carrying Capacity right from character creation. The bigger your character, the higher your base Carry Capacity will be. This applies to both your main character and Pawns.
Make your character as tall as possible by maxing out the Height slider, then push up your upper and lower body size too. We don’t know the exact formula at work here, and there seems to be some rounding going on behind the scenes that gives you some wiggle room for aesthetics if you don’t want your character to be a wall of muscle and fat.
The downside is that the heavier your character is (you can see the weight at the bottom of the screen) the slower your Stamina Regeneration will be. So there is a balancing act at play, and it’s up to you just how much focus you want to put on Carry Capacity.
Start with the Fighter Vocation
The Fighter Vocation gets more Carry Capacity than Mage, Thief and Archer. Since the Carry Capacity tends to be a bigger problem early in your playthrough, it makes sense to start with the Fighter and level it up. You can switch your Vocation later on by visiting any Vocation Guild.
Levelling up the Fighter Vocation also allows you to do the next thing on the list which will further improve your Carry Capacity.
Use the Thew Augment
Once your Fighter Vocation reaches Rank 6, you gain the option to unlock the Thew Augment.
Thew increases your Carrying Capacity further, and since you can apply any unlocked Augment from any Vocation to any other Vocation, once you’ve unlocked this you could switch to a Mage (for example) and immediately equip Thew to your Mage build, improving your Carry Capacity there too.
If you don’t want to play as the Fighter for your whole playthrough and only want it for the Carry Capacity boost, then this is a good point to switch from Fighter to your desired Vocation.
Golden Trove Beetles
There’s a good chance you’ve come across some big golden beetles during your playthrough. They can often be found crawling on trees or other surfaces. They can easily be confused with a low-level enemy or some type of completionist collectable at first glance, but these are actually meant for improving your Carry Capacity.
Approach these beetles and collect them. Then, find the beetle in your inventory and consume it. Doing this will immediately and permanently boost your Carry Capacity by 0.15 kg. This might sound like a small amount, but there are many Golden Trove Beetles scattered throughout the world, so over the course of your playthrough this will start to add up quite nicely.
You can find all of the locations for Golden Trove Beetles here.
Equip a Ring of Accrual
The final trick for improving your Carry Capacity is to obtain and equip a Ring of Accrual (or two if you want to maximise Carry Capacity as much as possible).
These rings improve your Carry Capacity when wearing them, and can be purchased from Armouries for 6,500G. You could even equip them to your Main Pawn to boost their capacity too. Keep checking vendors and purchase these when they appear, as they are fairly cheap and will make your adventuring less troublesome – there’s nothing more annoying than finding a cool new item and having to throw something valuable away to accommodate it.
Inventory Management Tips
We’ve now covered everything that you can do to improve your Carry Weight in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Here we will also include a few beginner tips for getting by with your low carry weight in the early game.
- Use the chest found in Inns to stash excess items. If you’re carrying around lots of potions and ingredients or situational bits of gear, this can start to build up and sap away at your Carry Capacity, leaving little room left for loot. If you have items that you want to hold onto but probably won’t be immediately useful, then visit an Inn and leave them in the chest for safekeeping.
- Make use of your Pawns’ inventories too. Your Main Pawn will always stay with you for the duration of your adventure, so if your bag is getting too full then it’s always safe to give an item to them for the time being. You can also give items to your other Pawns, but remember to take them back before you dismiss them from your party.
- Build your Main Pawn for carrying. Applying all of the tips mentioned earlier in the guide to your Main Pawn as well as your Arisen character will give you the highest possible inventory space in DD2. A Main Pawn who is tall and stocky, has the Fighter Vocation, Thew Augment and Rings of Accrual equipped will have a large inventory size for you to make use of.
