Best Origin and Companion Builds – Baldur’s Gate 3
Welcome to our BG3 Origin and Companion Builds category page. Here, you can find builds for all of the unique Origin and Companion characters in BG3.
Origin Characters can be chosen from the character creation screen or recruited very early in Act I, and have a fully fleshed-out storyline. Examples are Shadowheart, Astarion and the Dark Urge.
Companions cannot be recruited until later in your adventure. They have some story, but typically not as in-depth as the Origin characters. A couple of examples are Minthara and Halsin.

Best Astarion Build
Our BG3 Astarion Build will ensure you get the most out of the Pale Elf on his quest for vengeance and freedom.
Best Dark Urge Build
While the default class of the Dark Urge is a Sorcerer, we found the Rogue class to be a great fit for them, too.
In our BG3 Dark Urge Build, we used the new Swashbuckler subclass to transform the Dark Urge into the melee killing machine they are meant to be.
Best Gale Build
In our BG3 Gale Build, we used the Evocation Wizard subclass to give Gale higher damage output. and combined it with armour and equipment that make his spells as accurate and potent as possible.
Best Halsin Build
Our BG3 Halsin Build uses the Circle of the Moon subclass to empower Halsin’s animal transformations.
We’re also using equipment that increases Spell Save DC, making Halsin’s spells more difficult for enemies to resist.
Best Jaheira Build
For our BG3 Jaheira Build, we are using the Circle of the Land to boost her spellcasting as much as possible.
Your equipment will play into this approach by making your spells more dangerous and more accurate.
Best Karlach Build
If you’ve recruited Karlach to your BG3 party and want some pointers on how to capitalise on her enormous strength, then look no further than our BG3 Karlach Berserker Build.
Best Lae’zel Build
While she is not initially everybody’s cup of tea, Lae’zel is an excellent melee fighter who can undergo a decent redemption arc if you stick with her.
Our BG3 Lae’zel Build ensures you can get the most out of this troublesome Githyanki warrior.
Best Minsc Build
Minsc is the final recruitable character you will encounter in Baldur’s Gate 3. He does not show up until Act III.
Our BG3 Minsc Build will ensure you can get the most out of Minsc and his small companion, Boo.
Best Minthara Build
Minthara is a Vengeance Paladin who can be recruited in Act II (depending on your choices in Act I). She commonly finds her way into the party of players doing an evil playthrough, although it is possible to recruit her on a good playthrough by taking a rather strange series of actions in the Goblin Camp.
Minthara is often loved by players who do recruit her, due to her brutal honesty and potential redemption arc.
Our BG3 Minthara Build ensures that you’ll get the most out of the vengeful Drow as you pursue your common enemies.
Best Shadowheart Build
Shadowheart is usually the first character encountered after landing on the beach in BG3. As a result, she is one of the most common party members.
In our BG3 Shadowheart Build, we respec to the Light Domain and equip her with Radiating Orb armour, turning her into a debuff machine who will give enemies a miserable time.
Best Wyll Build
Wyll, also known as the Blade of Frontiers, is a heroic Warlock who is trapped under the malevolent influence of a devil from the Hells.
Our BG3 Wyll Build focuses on the Eldritch Blast cantrip, allowing you to deal devastating damage every turn and knock them back, giving you consistent damage output.
