In this guide we are going to take a look at the Best Grapple Hook in The First Descendant. There are currently three Modules that modify your Grapple Hook in the game. The base Grapple Hook can be clunky to use and its range often doesn’t go far enough so you won’t manage to pull yourself.

This can be annoying, but there is a solution for this problem! It’s called the Mid-Air Maneuvering Module that modifies your Grapple Hook to grapple to anything, even air!

We are using this on all our The First Descendant Builds because it feels so much smoother to use.

The Three Grapple Hooks in The First Descendant

Grapple Hook Modifications The First Descendant

As you can see there are three different Modules that change the Grapple Hook. Therefore, there are currently four different Grapple Hook version in The First Descendant.

  • Mid-Air Maneuvering
    • Modifies the Grappling Hook to be cast mid-air.
    • However, it can only be used once, and charge time increases by 20%.
  • Multi-Maneuvering
    • Modifies the Max Stack of Grappling Hook to 3.
    • But the base range decreases to 18m, and charge time increases by 20%.
  • Long-Distance Maneuvering
    • Modifies the Grappling Hook range to 25m.
    • But the base charge time changes to 6 seconds, and the charge time increases by 20%.

Why the Mid-Air Maneuvering Grappling Hook is the Best Version

Grappling Hook the first descendant

The image should already make clear that with the Mid-Air Maneuvering Grappling Hook, you can grapple anywhere. You don’t need to hit a specific stone or range to attach the Grapple Hook. You can even grapple up in the air. This allows for seamless grappling and you won’t ever miss a grapple point again because of the limited range or the unresponsive hook system.

Grapple in the air for the win!

Where does the Mid-Air Maneuvering Module Drop?

Farming the Mid-Air Maneuvering Module in The First Descendant will take 1-2 hours, depending on how lucky you get. I can recommend two spots, one is a Kuiper Shard farming location so you could just farm there, two birds with one stone! However, I actually got the Module from one of the Void Fragments in Sterile Land. It has a 5% drop chance, so it won’t take that long to get a guaranteed drop.

To see all drop locations, open the map, select Access Info, click on Modules and search for “Mid-Air Maneuvering” for the Module to pop up. Now press F to see all the drop locations.

  1. Anticipated Ambush Point (Also best Kuiper Shard Farm)
  2. Void Fragment (Fire)

Anticipated Ambush Point

The Anticipated Ambush Point (Sterile Land Zone, Hard) is one of the best Kuiper Shard farms in the game. You need a ton of Kuiper Shards to upgrade your Modules. You can read our Top 3 Kuiper Shard Farming Spots guide to learn more!

Basically, all you have to do is run in a circle and kill the monsters, this takes about 30 seconds to complete one run. After that restart the mission. The Module drops from one of the mission monsters. That is why you won’t see the Module in the rewards list!

The drop chance seems to be super low but because you can farm a crazy amount of Kuiper Shards it doesn’t really matter. If you want to get a guaranteed drop a lot faster then I recommend the second location below.

Void Fragment (Fire)

This location is also in the Sterile Land Zone (Hard Difficulty), in the Restricted Zone area. You need to bring the Fire element to activate the Void Fragment. And you can already see in the rewards that the Mid-Air Maneuvering Module has a 5% drop chance. It took me approximately half an hour for the Module to drop. Bless your RNG.

Don’t forget to max out your Sub Module for extra Capacity!

Make sure to level up your Sub Module to maximum level as fast as possible. This will give you up to 10 extra capacity while also buffing the Module. If it is at max level you won’t get the 20% charge time increase.
