The First Descendant Tier List Overview – Best Characters
Most The First Descendant characters perform well in PvE content. However, some excel across all areas, from dungeons to colossus boss fights, while others shine only in specific parts of the game. If you’re a skilled player, you can make any character work effectively. However, for those aiming to min-max their performance, choosing an S or A Tier character is the best option.
The information below about each Descendant (S-D Tier section) focuses primarily on the Overall Tier List. However, you’ll also find dedicated Bossing and Mobbing Tier Lists in the tabs below. These separate rankings are crucial, as most characters in The First Descendant are specialized and may not perform equally well in all types of content. The Overall Tier List represents a balanced combination of the results from both the Bossing and Mobbing Tier Lists, offering a comprehensive view of character performance.
Note: The characters are ranked based on their performance with optimized builds in The First Descendant. While some characters excel straight out of the gate, others become significantly more powerful when equipped with the right build. For example, a Transcendent Module can completely change the playstyle of a character!
SS-Tier Characters – The First Descendant
The SS-Tier characters are completely broken and even stronger than S-Tier characters in The First Descendant. Please keep in mind that they may be nerfed in the foreseeable future because they are completely overpowered compared to any other character in the game.

The First Descendant Serena Overview
Serena – The Flying Goddess
The First Descendant Serena is the first Descendant that is able to fly. Her fourth skill Redemption boosts weapon based damage to insane levels while it also scales off max HP. Strengths:
- Insane Single-Target Damage.
- Insane AoE Damage.
- Powerful Transcendent Modules.
- Buffs weapon damage so high that you can delete any monster in the game almost instantly.
Weaknesses:
- Because her damage comes from weapons, you need a maxed-out weapon.
Best Use Cases:
- Allrounder: Effective at anything she does.
- Speedrunning: With the correct AoE weapon you can speedrun anything.
- Farming: Farming anything becomes trivial due to her insane AoE damage.
- Dungeons: She can clear harder dungeons very fast.
- Bossing: Serena’s fourth skill boosts single-target weapon damage to insane levels, destroying any boss in seconds.

- He has access to shield skills that can absorb a lot of damage for the whole team.
- Great in Colossus fights to absorb damage for the team.
- Can easily resurrect allies in Colossus fights due to his shields.
Weaknesses:
- Damage is often more favored than defense in The First Descendant, making him not worthwhile most of the time.
Best Use Cases:
- Bossing: Ajax can be good at Colossus fights if you need extra shielding for allies like Gley that often have low Health because of frenzy state.
- Dungeons: he clears harder dungeons easily because he is tanky, but it does take longer than damage-focused Descendants.
- Solo-Friendly: He is good at soloing a lot of content because he is super tanky.

- Unlimited Ammo (any ammo type) for Enzo and his allies in boss fights and dungeons.
- Applies powerful buffs to weapons with one of his transcendent modules.
- Best character to farm Encrypted Vaults because difficulty decreases tremendously.

- Very low AoE damage compared to most other Descendants.
- Relies heavily on weapons for AoE damage.

Best Characters Tier List Criteria for The First Descendant
The First Descendant Characters that have a high ranking are both very powerful in dungeons and boss fights in The First Descendant. They also rock exceptionally high DPS without going into a weird kinky build loadout that limits them or is super niche and hard to get.
All TFD Characters are useful in the game if you have a powerful The First Descendant Build. Some characters require more effort to push super high DPS simply because you need to max out more modules. Some characters may feel squishy if you don’t build them correctly, especially while leveling up. This won’t be a problem if you use one of our The First Descendant Builds for endgame.
Must-Have Characters in The First Descendant
Regardless of the rankings above these are characters that you must have because only they can fulfil these special tasks in The First Descendant.

Sharen can infiltrate outposts with her invisibility skill. This allows her to destroy the Power Units without getting spotted by the enemy. This results in additional rewards and takes a fraction of the time to complete versus the normal defeat-everything method.
Enzo’s passive Fire Starter has an additional effect that many overlook, it makes Encrypted Vaults easier and increases rewards. Encrypted Vaults have a difficult mini-game to open them, it’s actually nearly impossible to open the more difficult ones without Enzo. Enzo makes the mini-game tremendously easier. This is important because the Encrypted Vaults are hidden all over the place and the key material you need to open them is also very rare.
Please keep in mind that The First Descendant is still a new game and balance patches will change the First Descendant Tier List. I will keep updating it for new patches.
