What Are Special Operations in TFD?

Special Operations are special missions that can be unlocked in TFD. You can unlock them by completing all other missions within a particular map zone.

You can access Special Operations by visiting the Special Operations Terminal in Albion. Alternatively, you can find them on the normal mission map by looking out for the purple mission markers that appear after you complete a zone.

Special Operations are divided into two mission types – Resource Defence and Mine Blocking.

TFD Special Operation Mission Overview

Resource Defence Guide

Resource Defence missions task you and your party with defending an objective against advancing waves of enemies and monsters. Each wave is a little bit harder than the last, generally speaking. Before starting the mission, you can preview the potential rewards; when doing this, you will notice that there are mid-game rewards that can be earned by reaching a specific wave number. When you reach these waves, you can decide if you want to leave the mission or continue to try and get better rewards. Once the total death count for the party exceeds 8, the mission will fail.

The mid-game rewards have a chance to include Amorphous Materials, special items that contain vital items for things like unlocking new Descendants – to open these, you need to defeat the Colossus associated with the material, via Void Intercept Battles. Check the tooltip of the Amorphous Material to see which Colossus they are linked to. The chance to obtain Amorphous Materials increases as you progress to harder waves.

These missions can also drop many other items as loot, such as Modules and Weapons, and they’re great for quickly levelling up your Descendant.

Mine Blocking Guide

Mine Blocking missions are very similar to Resource Defence missions. Monsters will be spawned on the map, and you need to defeat them all.

After defeating all monsters, another wave will spawn in much the same way as Resource Defence. You can get progressively rarer mid-game rewards by progressing through the waves.

The difficulty and number of monsters will also increase as you progress to higher waves. If your party registers more than 8 deaths, the game will immediately end.

Mine Blocking missions are another vital way to obtain Amorphous Materials, and you will also loot other potentially useful items from the monsters you kill during these missions.

We hope you enjoyed this quick guide about Special Operations in the First Descendant.
