Freyna’s Strengths
Freyna Weaknesses
How to Play Freyna in the First Descendant
In this section we are going to take a look at how Freyna works in The First Descendant. Freyna excels at both AoE and single-target damage. Learn about her skills in detail in the Freyna’s Skill Explanation section. Freyna’s Transcendent Modules are also exceptional!
It is important to understand how her 4th skill works. Please read the Venom Baptism Skill Explained section of the Freyna Build! Understanding this will increase the rounds from 50 to 129 for that skill.
Freyna’s AoE Capabilities: Unleashing Poison Chain Reactions!
Freyna’s Venom Trauma (1st skill) and Putrid Venom (3rd skill) are exceptional for spreading damage over time. With the right build, you can blanket entire rooms in poison, triggering devastating chain reactions of poison explosions.
- The Freyna Mobbing Build with Contagion focuses on maximizing poison chain reactions, allowing you to easily spread poison over a full area. This setup is easier to play but also removes a bit of damage.
- The Freyna Mobbing Build with Venom Injection maximizes damage, but is harder to play due to constant MP drain mechanics. Additionally, HP is fixed at 1 but we have a big shield that protects us. This is a must, because Venom Injection increases in strength if we have low HP.
Freyna’s Single Target Damage: Boss Shredding Galore!
Freyna’s Venom Baptism (4th skill) delivers insane single-target damage, making it perfect for colossus fights. Mastering this skill is crucial. Learn how to optimize it in the Venom Baptism Scaling Explained Guide section.
- The Ultimate Freyna Bossing Build with Venom Injection works similar to the mobbing build but focuses on single-target damage with Venom Injection.
Freyna’s Equipment: Make Or Break It!
To unlock Freyna’s full potential, you need the right Weapons, Reactors, and External Components:
- Weapons: Focus on two general damage-dealing weapons and one weapon tailored to Venom Baptism for maximum scaling potential. See the Best Weapons for Freyna section, and don’t forget to read how Freyna’s Venom Baptism scales.
- Reactors: Selecting the right reactor can drastically boost your damage. Check out the Best Reactors for Freyna section.
- External Components: These are critical for survivability. Properly configured, they double or triple your HP and DEF. Learn more in the Best External Components for Freyna section.
Building a top-tier The First Descendant Freyna Build requires not only the right modules but also optimized weapons, reactors, and components.
Best Freyna Builds Overview for The First Descendant
All Freyna build setups require an Energy Activator to increase the Module Capacity. We also have an in-depth guide on how to farm Energy Activators in The First Descendant. Additionally, you will need plenty of Kuiper Shards and Gold to increase Module Levels. Here are the Top 3 Kuiper Shard farm spots!
Equipment: I will cover Weapons, Reactors, and External Components in the Freyna Equipment section. To maximize the power of any build, you must get the correct items!

| Freyna Bossing Build (Venom Injection) | Used to fight against Colossus bosses. |
Freyna Mobbing Build with Contagion
This Freyna Mobbing Build with Contagion deals massive AOE damage. The Contagion transcendent module allows us to spread poison easily over a wide area at the cost of having a bit less damage. This setup is also easy to play and can be modified for extra survivability.
- Need more HP? If you want to play it safe, you can replace the Decimator module with HP Amplification.
- Ancestor Module: Best Perks are Skill Cooldown, Tech Skill Power Boost Ratio, Skill Effect Range and as negative Max Shield. However, any Ancestor Module that has Skill Cooldown on it will work fine.
- No Ancestor Module?: Add the Amplification Control module in its slot.

Freyna Mobbing Build with Venom Injection
This Freyna Mobbing Build with Venom Injection deals massive damage both for AOE and ST at the cost of sustain management. The Venom Injection transcendent module gives us a huge boost to damage but it constantly drains MP. Additionally, this setup has HP reduced to 1 but shield size increased. This is because the Venom Injection transcendent mod deals more than at low HP.
- Ancestor Module: Best Perks are Skill Cooldown, Tech Skill Power Boost Ratio, Skill Effect Range and as negative Max Shield. However, any Ancestor Module that has Skill Cooldown on it will work fine.
- No Ancestor Module? Some other options you can add instead:

Freyna Bossing Build for The First Descendant
This Freyna Bossing Build with Venom Injection focuses on her 4th skill that deals massive damage. We do have plenty of cooldown modules that allow us to reuse the 4th skill incredibly fast. We aim for 80-90% skill cooldown reduction. Try to get as close to 90% as possible. For example, my build sits at 0.895, which is 89.5%. This will set the cooldown of your 4th skill to approximately 11 seconds.
- Hyperfocus Mod: You must shoot your weapon and hit the enemy with a crit to proc Hyperfocus. This will increase your damage tremendously. Alternatively, you can use Dangerous Ambush.
- Ancestor Module: Best perks are Tech Skill Power Increase, Toxic Skill Power Increase, Skill Cooldown. Negative perk DEF.
- No Ancestor? You can slot Maximize Conservation instead to get some extra skill cost reduction.
| Module Slot | Module Name | Mod Level | Socket Type | Crystallized |
|---|---|---|---|---|

Trigger and Ancestor Modules for the Freyna Build
Trigger and Ancestor Modules are also part of the module category, but they are a special type of module that are harder to unlock and acquire.
- Trigger Modules: Go into a special slot. Unlock special buffs and unique effects.
- Ancestor Modules: Go into a normal module slot. Enhance the build by adding additional stats.
Freyna Trigger Modules
Trigger Modules need to be unlocked first. Learn how to unlock Trigger Modules in The First Descendant.
For our The First Descendant Freyna Build, you want to run Infected Weapon, this will boost damage like crazy. Alternatively, you can also use Power Beyond.
Freyna Ancestor Module
Ancestor Modules can be slotted once you have acquired them. However, they are only worth it once you have an Ancestor module with good stat rolls on them.
Freyna Ancestor Module: Dominator’s Resolution
It is only worth slotting an Ancestor Module if you have good rolls on it; otherwise, it isn’t worth it.
Generally, you should try to get an Ancestor Module with Skill Cooldown. The closer you get to 90% Skill Cooldown, the more often your 4th skill can be used.

Arche Tuning for Freyna
The Arche Tuning System in The First Descendant is important for every Character; it buffs your stats by a good amount. For The First Descendant Freyna, we are focusing on the right and upper right section.
You level up Arche Tuning in the Sigma Sector Dropoff Operation. Mutant Cells also drop there with a small chance.
Freyna Arche Tuning Mutant Cells:
- Top Left: Defense Neutralization
- Top Right: Putrid Zone
Freyna Equipment Overview in The First Descendant
Equipment is the cornerstone of any successful The First Descendant Build. For Freyna, having the right setup can mean the difference between dominating a dungeon and falling short. This section breaks down the essential equipment types—Weapons, Reactors, External Components, and Transcendent Modules—and explains how they maximize her power.

Best Weapons for the Freyna Build in The First Descendant
Freyna is a skill-based Descendant. Therefore, you mostly use your weapon as a “Stat Stick”. There are currently two good weapons that Freyna can use to enhance her skill damage. Fallen Hope is the best choice with Secret Garden coming in as a close second.
Top Weapons for Freyna
Best Reactor for Freyna in The First Descendant
Selecting the best reactor for Freyna in The First Descendant can significantly enhance her abilities, allowing you to maximize her effectiveness in various scenarios. Not only does the reactor determine your skill damage, but it also gives additional secondary benefits through modifiers. These are often hard to get and take time to grind out!
All of Freyna’s skills are Toxic & Tech. Only the defensive one is not tech, we can ignore that. Therefore you always want to get a Toxic Mechanics Reactor for her to boost both Toxic and Tech damage.
| Best Reactor | Specs | Key Benefits | Best Builds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Toxic Mechanics Reactor |
|
Maximizing Mobbing Damage | |
| Toxic Mechanics Reactor |

How to find the Location of Reactors
Reactor drop locations change every day. Not many players are aware of this and become confused. Now, there is a reactor search function in-game. Go to the map and press on Difficulty Level Rewards. In here, you can see where all the reactors currently drop.
Note: It is possible that not all reactor types are currently dropping. You have to come back and recheck every day.
If your specified reactor drops in an area, you go there and farm any missions and monsters (Preferably missions with lots of monster spawns). There will be plenty of reactors dropping from monsters all over the place, any monster works. It will take a while to get a good reactor!
Best External Components for the Freyna Build
The best External Components set that works with any of the Freyna Builds is called the Plague Set. It drops in the Sigma Sector Broken Boundary, normal & hard difficulty. Alternatively, you can also use the Slayer set.
Plague is an amazing set because it has 4x Max HP as base stat. Additionally, it obviously also suits Freyna’s skills perfectly. The only thing you should be aware of, that if you are using a Weapon that focuses on crit, then Slayer will be the better option.
External Component Cores: Always go for HP and DEF cores.
Plague Set Bonuses:
- 2 Set Bonus:
- Tech Skill Power +5%
- Singular Skill Power +5%
- 4 Set Bonus:
- Firearm Critical Hit Rate -24%
- Firearm Critical Hit Damage +37%
- Toxic Skill Power +43%
- On acquiring Custom Resource, Toxic Skill Power +22%

Note: You can replace one or two DEF cores with attribute resistance if you fight against specific enemy types.
Inversion Reinforcements Setup for Freyna
You can find the Inversion Reinforcements in the inventory, located on the bottom left side. This changes with every new season and needs to be leveled up again. You level up Inversion Reinforcements by doing any activity. However, the fastest way to advance it is by completing Disrupt Invasion (max 4 daily) in the dungeon terminal with the red dungeons.
At max level, you have unlocked everything. While the last perk is always active in each row, you can only slot three additional perks at the bottom. Here is what you want to prioritize:
Contagion Mobbing Build
- Hunt:
- Focus Boost if you are close to 90% Skill Cooldown already.
- Arche Circulation Tactic if you aren’t close to 90% Skill Cooldown.
- Attribute: None.
- Recovery: Selective Neurostimulation.
- Survival: Deploy Hardened Shell.
- Season: None.
Venom Injection Builds
- Hunt: None.
- Attribute: None.
- Recovery: Selective Neurostimulation.
- Survival: Shield Particle Reconfiguration.
- Season: Shield Regeneration Algorithm.
All Freyna Transcendent Modules Explained
First, let us look at the full list of all Transcendent Modules for Freyna in The First Descendant. It is important to note that not all of the modules will be used. Some are more effective than others!
| Module Name | Module Description | Best In Slot |
|---|---|---|
|

|
|

|
|

|

When using skill, continuously consumes resources to grant self Toxic Sense. While Toxic Sense is active, hitting an enemy with a firearm or a Skill inflicts Corrosion. |
Neurotoxin Synthesis Transcendent Module
Neurotoxin Synthesis is a Freyna-exclusive Transcendent Module. It modifies the effects of Room 0 Trauma. Does not spread Poison, but inflicts ATK reduction and Weaken Regeneration. This is currently a very underperforming module and not useful in any build.
How to get Freyna’s Neurotoxin Synthesis Module:
- Intercept Battle: Swamp Walker (hard)
- Hagios zone (hard): Old Mystery Mission
Freyna’s Venom Synthesis Transcendent Module
Venom Synthesis is a Freyna-exclusive Transcendent Module. It converts the Putrid Venom skill. The skill instead now leaves behind a Toxic Footprint after every step. Inflicts Room 0 Trauma on enemies coming in contact with Toxic Footprint. That means instead of a ranged skill you will now place poison directly under you.
How to get Freyna’s Venom Synthesis Module:
- Sterile Land zone (hard): Unknown Laboratory Mission
- Sterile Land zone (normal): Unknown Laboratory Mission
Toxic Stimulation Transcendent Module
Toxic Stimulation is a Freyna-exclusive Transcendent Module. Instead of only giving you an armor buff, it grants Plague Bodyarmor to nearby allies, increasing their survivability too. This is a very nice to have module for hard Colossus fights.
How to get Freyna’s Toxic Stimulation Module:
- Fortress zone (hard): Void Fusion Reactor – Defense Line region
- Fortress zone (normal): Void Fusion Reactor – Defense Line region
- White-night Gulch (hard): Void Fusion Reactor – Mountaintops region
- White-night Gulch (normal): Void Fusion Reactor – Mountaintops region
Freyna’s Contagion Transcendent Module
Contagion is a Freyna-exclusive Transcendent Module in The First Descendant. It allows for Room 0 Trauma damage over time effect to spread to nearby enemies. Making it one of the most powerful mods available to any character.
While Contagion is amazing at spreading poison damage over a wide area, it does remove some damage-over-time effects. The following debuffs are lost when using Contagion:
- Panic
- Despair
- Decay
- Nightmare
- Toxic Reaction
How to get Freyna’s Contagion Module:
- Intercept Battle: Dead Bride (hard)
- Intercept Battle: Death Stalker (hard)
- Echo Swamp: The Chapel (hard)
- Combining Modules: Combine any 4x Transcendent Rutile Modules to have a 7-14% chance of getting the Contagion Module.
Ultimate Freyna’s Toxic Mixture Transcendent Module
Toxic Mixture is an Ultimate Freyna exclusive Transcendent Module. It modifies the Room 0 Trauma effect to Necrosis. Firearm ATK increases with the number of Necrosis stacks.
How to get Ultimate Freyna’s Toxic Mixture Module:
- Fortress zone (hard): Defense Line region, Heart of the Fortress Mission
- Fortress zone (hard): Defense Line region, Invasion: Quarantine Zone
Ultimate Freyna’s Venom Injection Transcendent Module
The Venom Injection Transcendent Module is an Ultimate Freyna exclusive. It is used in the Ultimate Freyna Bossing Build. When using any skill, continuously consumes resources to grant yourself Toxic Sense. While Toxic Sense is active, hitting an enemy with a firearm or a Skill inflicts Corrosion. Corrosion reduces Toxin Resistance of enemies.
If we have a lot of HP, this will drain HP from Ultimate Freyna. If we drop to low HP it will drain MP instead.
How to get Ultimate Freyna’s Venom Injection Module:
- Fortress zone (hard): Defense Line region, Heart of the Fortress Mission
- Fortress zone (hard): Defense Line region, Invasion: Quarantine Zone
Venom Baptism (4th Skill) Scaling Explained for Freyna Build
Venom Baptism has been reworked and now powers up by having cores on your weapon and you can still increase the ammount of bullets with magazine modules.
- 1 Cores: 30% Skill Power Modifier
- 2 Cores: 30% Fire Rate
- 3 Cores: 50% Skill Effect Range
- 4 Cores: 80% Rounds per Magazine
- 5 Cores: 20% Damage Reduction
What else increases the power of Venom Baptism:
- 49% Rounds per Magazine from Expand Weapon Charge module.
- Support Ammo Modules, can only slot 1
- 39% Rounds per Magazine from Compulse Magazine module
- 30% Rounds per Magazine from any of the Support Ammo Modules (Example: Multi-Piercing Support Ammo Module)
- 12% Rounds Per Magazine from Weapon Readjustments
- 9% Rounds per Magazine from Slayer Set External Components
Total Extra Bullets Possible:
- 80% from cores, 88% from modules, 12% from readjustments, 9% from Slayer = 189%
- Base 50 *2.89= 144.5 Bullets
Our Freyna Build Max Bullets with Fallen Hope:
- 80% from cores, 79% from modules = 159%
- 50 *2.59 = 129 Bullets
Conclusion: Getting the most out of Venom Baptism is much simpler now that you just have to stack 5 cores and focus on Rounds Per Magazine modules!
Players often want to increase the skill duration. However, this is not needed. View the video below, you can easily shoot all bullets within the normal duration of the skill. The only time you would want to extend skill duration is if you don’t want to spray all bullets in one go.

How Modules Work in The First Descendant
Modules are the bread and butter of all The First Descendant Builds. There are a few important things to remember about modules. This is for both Descendant and Weapon Modules.
While most builds require you to increase Module Capacity with an Energy Activator (you get two for free), they won’t require you to reduce the Module cost with Crystallization Catalyst. However, if you want to truly min-max a build, you will need plenty of these Catalysts.
- How to increase your Module Capacity
- Module Levels and Cost
- Reduce the cost of Modules
- How to farm Modules
How to Increase Module Capacity
You get a base of 45 Modules for every Descendant character. And you can increase this up to 85 currently. First off, always slot a Sub Attack Module (Slot 7). When you increase this to the max level you will get an additional 10 Module Capacity. if you use a Crystallization Catalyst on the Sub Attack Module, you even get 15 extra slots. You will see this in the setup below.
Additionally, you can use an Energy Activator to increase your Module Capacity by another 20. However, these are fairly hard to farm, only use them on your best Descendants.
Lastly, increasing your Mastery Rank will also increase Module Capacity. Rank 1 gives you 25 Module Capacity, Rank 20 gives you 50 Module Capacity. That is how we reach the 80 Module Capacity that you see on most builds.
- Slot a Sub Attack Module (and max it out to get +10 capacity, crystallize it for +15)
- Use an Energy Activator (2o extra capacity)
- Increase Mastery Rank (25 base capacity, max 50)
Weapons: Basically the same, but because you don’t have Subattack Modules, the Energy Activator gives you 30 instead of just 20 extra capacity.
You can also read my in-depth guide on how to increase Module Capacity in The First Descendant if you need more information. Or my Best Energy Activator Farm Spots and our Best Crystallization Catalyst Farm Spots. I tested all of the grind spots by myself and have already farmed plenty of these items with this method.
Module Levels and Cost
Modules can be enhanced (leveled up) with Kuiper Shards in The First Descendant. Enhancing Modules increases their power. At higher levels, the power will increase way more than at lower levels. Therefore it is always recommended to max out the most important Module first.
Here is an example of a must-have Module called Increased HP for our Descendant. You will notice that we start at 22%, but at the max level, we get a whopping 218.5% increase in health!
| Level | Capacity Cost | Power |
|---|---|---|
| 0 – Base | 6 | 22% |
| 1 | 7 | 31.2% |
| 2 | 8 | 41.4% |
| 3 | 9 | 54.4% |
| 4 | 10 | 69.8% |
| 5 | 11 | 87.2% |
| 6 | 12 | 108.2% |
| 7 | 13 | 130.2% |
| 8 | 14 | 155.2% |
| 9 | 15 | 184.5% |
| 10 | 16 | 218.5% |
Transcendent Modules are the exception; they decrease Capacity Cost with higher levels!
For an in-depth overview, please visit our How to Level Up Modules in The First Descendant guide.
How to Farm Kuiper Shards
Kuiper Shards are used to level up Modules. We have a guide on the Top 3 Kuiper Shard Farming Locations in the First Descendant. We explain how to most efficiently farm Kuiper Shards (300-500k/hour) and show the amount you need to level up mods. As a summary, to max out a Module you need:
- Normal Modules: 103’100 Kuiper Shards
- Rare Modules: 206’200 Kuiper Shards
- Ultimate Modules: 309’300 Kuiper Shards
- Transcendent Modules: 515’500 Kuiper Shards
Always max out the most important Modules first, we will showcase the order below.
How to Reduce the Cost of Modules
To reduce the cost of Modules you need Crystallization Catalysts in The First Descendant. These require a lot of time investment, most builds won’t require you to get many if any at all (Budget Setup). But if you want to completely min-max you need to get plenty of them as technically, every slot can have a specific socket type to half the cost.
Modules have Socket Types. Our Increased HP Module has the Cerulean Socket Type.
- Module: Increased HP
- Socket Type: Cerulean
This is important because if we place our Increased HP Module in the fitting Socket Type, it will half the cost of the Module!
How to farm Modules in The First Descendant
Most The First Descendant Modules can be acquired fairly easily, but the higher-quality ones (Ultimate, Transcendent) are more tedious to obtain. Here is the easiest process to farm Modules quickly.
Open Map > Swap to Access Info > Select Modules
Here, you can find all Modules and their drop locations. If a module drops from several locations, it is recommended to select drop locations with higher drop chances.
There isn’t really much more to this. Simply check the location and go farm. Normal and Rare quality Modules have 30-50% drop chances in most cases. Ultimate ones range around the 5% mark and Transcendent ones can be a tough cookie with around 2% drop chance.

Using the standard Grapple Hook in The First Descendant can be a pain, and it feels kinda frustrating at times. Don’t worry, there is a way better alternative that will make it a joy to use the grappling hook!
It is called the Mid-Air Maneuvering Sub Module. I use this on all my The First Descendant Builds because it improves grappling by so much.
With this Module, you can attach your Grapple Hook to anything, even air! That means you can simply aim towards the sky and Hook up your grapple hook there for guaranteed fast movement!
Here is a guide on how to get the Mid-Air Maneuvering Sub Module in The First Descendant. It won’t take a lot of effort, but it will definitely improve your build and overall gameplay in The First Descendant.

Freyna Build Void Erosion Purge Challenge 5 Speedrun 2min34s
The Freyna Void Erosion Purge Challenge 5 Build is a completely different build from what you see here and is not recommended unless you try this very specific content and push for leaderboard score. Because you only have 1 HP and 1k Shield, which means if you get hit once you die. This is basically a no-hit build, we need to get as much damage as possible to nuke enemies.
Positioning and movement is even more important here as we must advance through as fast as possible!
I played this over 50 times to figure out how to move through as fast as I can.
Freyna’s Story in The First Descendant
A dealer of continuous damage who freely manipulated venom. Utilizes the venomous substances produced by her body to trap enemies in swamps of toxins.
Every single movement, however trivial, is considered classified for Albion Headquarters’ Special Forces, ‘Colon’. Their identities are so heavily guarded, even mentioning their real names to one another was forbidden. Thus, they resorted to communicating through their code names, even within Albion. This applied to Freyna, also known as ‘No. 6’, as well. Even with her long-time partner, ‘No. 9’, or O’Neill, no names were ever called. The moment they joined Colon, Freyna and O’Neill, who had been subsequently drafted into Colon after graduating from the military academy, were not allowed to call each other by their names for a long time.
‘Kill without hesitation’. Under the teachings of the organization, Freyna carried out her given missions with impressive efficiency. Regardless of who the target was, killing them came naturally to her. So much so, it became second nature to her, and in the process, any room for hesitation disappeared. That is, until the ‘Room 0 Incident‘.
Intel was received that a Priest of the Order of Truth would be making an appearance to oversee the Vulgus experiments being carried out in Echo Swamp. Four agents, including Freyna and O’Neill, were deployed to assassinate them. Although everyone sustained injuries after unexpectedly encountering enemy forces, they were able to complete their mission. Upon their return, they entered ‘Room 0’, which could only be entered by the Colon, together with an officer and they reported the information they had gathered.
Shortly after they began their operation report, the agents who had been deployed, except for Freyna, complained of pain before collapsing to the ground, only to begin transforming into Vulgus. Naturally, Freyna did what she had to do, without hesitation. After all, it was Colon’s duty to eliminate any threats, even if they had just been human; be they teammates or lovers. After a few gunshots, the agents, including O’Neill, fell to the ground. Freyna frantically rushed to O’Neill. With a distorted face, O’Neill painstakingly said “You must live, Freyna”. As soon as he uttered these words, he began to swell up, his body eventually rupturing. The venomous spores spread from O’Neill’s corpse, filling up Room 0. The bewildered officer quickly grabbed Freyna’s arm and dragged her out, firmly locking Room 0.
Of the four agents who were deployed for this operation, only Freyna was spared, thanks to her Arche. Her Arche produced a venom much more toxic than the one discovered in Room 0. But Freyna did not feel like she survived. She suffered from terrible trauma and insomnia, and was quarantined after she was unable to control the Arche being emitted from her body. The guilt of killing her lover with her own hands was as terrible and fatal as her Arche. However, she was determined to continue living, just as her partner had hoped. Freyna had a responsibility to fulfil his final request to her. With time, a neutralizer capable of suppressing her Arche was developed, and soon after, Freyna was able to leave quarantine.
Freyna’s Exclusive Equipment – Machine Gun with Venom Sensor
Freyna’s Arche is so dangerous that it ranks among the most dangerous toxins that the Magisters have ever quantified. A neutralizer was certainly needed, but with a toxin that could kill on contact, everyone avoided it. But just then, a newly recruited bioengineer volunteered, and before long, he succeeded in developing a substance that neutralized the toxicity of Freyna’s Arche. Until then, Freyna was unaware that someone had risked their life to develop the neutralizer. It was only when the suit attached with neutralizing filters, so that Freyna can fully control her toxins, was completed that she learned what happened.
