Deadlands DLC Changes and Quality of Life updates
The ESO Deadlands DLC brings a lot of changes and quality of life updates with it, these changes are not specific to Deadlands, they are meant for the game as a whole. You can also find the full patch notes here.
Critical Damage Cap
Critical damage now has a hard cap at 125% in ESO. That means even if you stack stats over 125% you won’t benefit from them. This only really matters for very optimized groups that stacked a lot of buffs. Most players actually will never reach the 125% cap. Of course if you are a Khajiit you have to be careful if you play with an optimized group due to the Feline Ambush passive that gives you extra critical damage. You might get closer to the cap than other races. The patch notes and the ZOS developer comment stated the following regarding the new critical damage cap:
Patch Note: “Critical Damage and Healing now has a hard cap of 125%. Note that this value can go beyond 125% but your Critical Strikes will not deal more than 125% damage or healing in total.”
Developer Comment: “Currently, Critical Chance continues to remain the best stat in the game by a large margin in PvE due to no effective cap on the bonus, and a large array of sourcing of Critical Damage and Healing amplifications. Rather than nerfing the values of these sources across the board and hurting build choices that aren’t over performing, we’ve decided to add a ceiling to the effectiveness of Critical potency to ensure the stat remains powerful, but doesn’t continue experiencing power creep as we add more options to build for it in the future. This should have very low impact on unoptimized builds while also reigning in groups who are coordinating many sources of these bonuses and producing extraordinary results of damage or healing.”
Proc Sets can Critical Strike again
With the ESO Deadlands DLC proc sets will finally be able to critically strike again. There are only a few exceptions that can’t critically strike because otherwise they would be too powerful (Arms of Relequen, Perfected Arms of Relequen, Zaan, Maarselok, Dark Convergence, Hrothgar’s Chill).
Alongside the critical strike change there were also some extra rules to proc order implemented. If yu are wearing multiple proc sets at once, any action that would activate multiple sets will instead trigger the first set that you equipped and suppress others for 1 second. After that second passes you will be able to attempt to trigger them again. Basically you have to equip the sets on your character in the order you want them to activate. A full list of all affects sets can be found here in the Proc Set Guide.
Below you can find the developer comments regarding the proc sets rework in the Deadlands DLC (update 32).
Regarding the scaling:
“Now with the hard cap to Critical Damage and Healing, as well as a new rule set that aims to diminish stacked item set burst potential, we’re moving forward with re-enabling item sets to Critically Strike when applicable. We decided to only target sets that are made for builds that are already building higher than base Critical chance, and have made additional changes to ensure they don’t become outright better than flat stat sets. This should significantly help viability of these sets in PvE, while many of the other targeted adjustments made should keep them reigned in for PvP environments. We expect these values or rules may change over time and we will be keeping a close eye on it.”
Regarding proc order:
“In efforts to help reduce the viability of stacking multiple proc sets at once and triggering them at high moments of burst, we’ve adopted a new standard for sets that lack ingrained counter play. These sets will now always prevent other sets on the list from activating at a singular moment, reducing the ability to front load damage into things such as Heavy Attacks or Ultimates and instantly killing targets. This list can be expanded and adjusted upon in the future, and moving forward, item sets will be held under greater scrutiny in terms of ensuring there are either moments of opportunity to avoid or outright prevention in terms of stacking.”
Hybridization of Sets in ESO
Some sets in ESO now have more “hybrid” stats. This means sets that grant Weapon Damage will now grant Weapon and Spell Damage, Spell Penetration will be Physical and Spell Penetration, and Critical will be Weapon and Spell Critical. This change was done in anticipation to make hybrid builds more viable.
Two good examples of sets that got hybridized are: Kinras’s Wrath Set and Tzogvin’s Warband Set. Both of these sets can now be worn by magicka, stamina or hybrid builds.
Loot Improvements
With the ESO Deadlands DLC bosses and reward chests from arenas and incursions will now preferentially drop set items that have not yet been unlocked in your Item Set Collections. That means once you miss only 1 item of a certain set the drop will be guaranteed the next time you do the boss.
- Most bosses in the game, along with reward chests from arenas and incursions, will now preferentially drop set items that have not yet been unlocked in your Item Set Collections. These sources will only drop the set items that they can normally drop; the ways to acquire a particular item are unchanged, but it should be much easier to find items that you have not yet unlocked.
- Set items looted from treasure chests, containers, or from non-boss monsters are generally not curated in this manner.
Ingame Mail Delivery is now instant in ESO
Ingame mail delivery is now instant. You will no longer have to travel to a different zone in order to receive items you bought from a guild trader
The Armory Build Saver
Another huge quality of life improvement is the Armory System, this is also part of the base game of ESO. This is bascially an ingame build saver where you can swap between builds in seconds. Please visit The Armory Guide or watch the video below if you want to see how it works.
