Welcome to our Diablo 4 Renown guide. In this guide we will explain what the Renown system in Diablo 4 is, how it works, and how you can earn Renown in order to obtain extra rewards.

What is Renown in Diablo 4?

Renown is essentially an extra reward system in Diablo 4 that rewards players for taking their time to explore the world of Sanctuary in its entirety.

Each Region in Diablo 4 has its own Renown progression system, where you can unlock various rewards by reaching Renown thresholds for that zone. These rewards can include things like extra XP, gold, Potion Charges and skill points.

Some of the Renown rewards are account wide. This means that once you unlock them on one character, you’ll immediately have access to them on your other characters on the same Realm too. However some of the rewards are specific to each character, and will need to be earned again on your other characters in order to access them.

How to Earn Renown

To earn Renown in each Region of Diablo 4, you need to explore the Region and complete various tasks and challenges within the Region.

Below is a list of the different actions that generate Renown, along with how much Renown they generate:

  • Discovering a new area: 5 Renown
  • Discovering an Altar of Lilith: 10 Renown
  • Discovering a new Waypoint: 20 Renown
  • Completing a Side Quest: 20 Renown
  • Completing a Side Dungeon: 30 Renown
  • Completing a Stronghold: 100 Renown

It’s generally more optimal to start with the easier tasks first, such as finding new areas and Altars of Lilith. This is because you will earn some extra XP from hitting the first Renown thresholds, which will give you an easier time with the Dungeons and Strongholds. But you can certainly get by without doing things in this order, if you want to.

You can view your Renown Progress in each region by pressing W while on the Map screen. This will show the available rewards and your progress towards unlocking them.
