V Rising 1.0 Update New Zone – Ruins of Mortium

V Rising Update 1.0 Ruins of Mortium Map

The Ruins of Mortium is located on the far East part of the map in V Rising.  It connects to Dunley Farmlands on the West, Hallowed Mountains on the South, and the Cursed Forest in the North.  This new vampire based zone is clouded from the sun at all times of day.  All of the creatures outside of Rift Incursions are level 50 to 53 range.  The Ruins of Mortium is filled with vampires and vampiric creatures all carrying a new Blood Type, Draculin.

Draculin Blood Type

Draculin Blood Type can be effective for additional movespeed at night.  With a very high Blood Quality or maximum, it can provide powerful healing through blood mend and quick additional healing for finishing targets with Bite.  The Draculin vampire monsters can NOT be dominated and imprisoned, so this is meant to be taken as it comes.  Whlie it isn’t the most damage focused blood type, its effective for quick healing and a disposable blood type while PvEing in the zone.

Rift Icursions

Rift Incursions are a new ongoing event in the V Rising 1.0 Update.  They are not always active, but players will be able to see when they are going to begin and how long they are occurring.  You must construct an Eye of Mortium which will be unlocked through the quest progression.  So it is important to continue to main quest line to unlock this as you approach Level 50s.

Rift Incursions only spawn inside the Ruins of Mortium zone and will randomly be positioned in various camps that are marked on your map once you have constructed the Eye of Mortium.  Creatures will be summoned from the Shadow Realm that can be killed for Stygian Shards and Ancestral Weapons.

Stygian Shards drop from Level 1 Rift Incursions (Level 57+), and Greater Stygian Shards drop from Level 2 Rift Incursions (Level 83+).

Each active zone functions the same way.  There will be two smaller rifts that summon waves of enemies to defeat and will drop a small amount of Stygian Shards.  The active area will be somewhere surrounding the center summoning circle in that area.  Once you’ve cleared the first small rift, you will move to find and clear a second rift.  After completing 2 of them, there will be a boss summoned in the center summoning circle.  Defeating this boss will great a large amount of Stygian Shards and a chance for Ancestral Weapons among other loot.  The boss will provide a large amount of Stygian Shards.

Stygian Shards Uses

Stygian Shards are an important currency that will attract conflict on any multiplayer server.  They will be a main resource for crafting and “rolling” various end-game weapons and spell modifiers.  These allow you to min/max your build and have continuous uses.

Stygian Shards

  • The Southern Merchant in Ruins of Mortium will sell Ancestral Weapons in exchange for Stygian Shards
  • The Stygian Summoning Circle can create large amounts of seeds, gems, or scrolls and books in exchange for Stygian Shards
  • Unlocks Tier 1 Passive Abilities at the Altar of Stygian Awakening (Cost: 400 Stygian Shards)

Greater Stygian Shards

  • The Northern Merchant in Ruins of Mortium will sell the best Ancestral Weapons in exchange for Greater Stygian Shards
  • The Stygian Summoning Circle can create large amounts of Alchemy Ingredients, Flawless Gems, or Schematics and books in exchange for Greater Stygian Shards
  • The Jewelcrafting Table requires Greater Stygian Shards to craft Tier 4 Primal Jewels (Max Level) for your spells
  • Unlocks Tier 2 and 3 Passive Abilities at the Altar of Stygian Awakening (Cost: 600 Greater Stygian Shards and 1000 Greater Stygian Shards)

Stygian Shards drop from Level 1 Rift Incursions (Level 57+)

Greater Stygian Shards drop from Level 2 Rift Incursions (Level 83+)

Dracula’s Demise

Dracula’s Demise is a small area between Dunley Farmlands and Gloomrot South.  Styx has been moved here and wanders around the center of this area.  There are creatures here similar to what you would encounter during Rift Incursions.  Additionally, this is where you will find Blood Crystals, which are required for crafting Onyx Tears now.

Rising 1.0 Update – New SpellBook System

The New Spellbook System in V Rising 1.0 Update changes the appearance and progression of the Spellbook, offering more choice as you advance through the Acts.  When you defeat a V Blood, you will gain a “Spell Point” of the respective magic type.  Then you can spend it on any skill in that Tier.  For example, if killing Lydia previously gave you Chaos Volley, you would get a Tier 1 Chaos point you could spend on Chaos Volley, or one of the other two Tier 1 skills.

The passives are not tied to killing V bloods and will be discussed below, but they will be displayed in your spellbook menu.

Nicholaus and Quincey offer the first Tier 3 Spell Points at the end of Act 1, allowing your first ultimate skill at level 35 range.

New Passive Skills – Altar of Stygian Awakening

The Altar of Stygian Awakening brings New Passive Skills that can be unlocked once Elena the Hollow (Level 53) is defeated.  This will unlock the ability to learn passives.  There is 1 skill for each magic type per Tier.  Tier 1 cost 400 Stygian Shards, Tier 2 cost 600 Greater Stygian Shards, and Tier cost 1000 Greater Stygian Shards.  These passives apply at all times actively on your character whether or not you have an active skill actively in use.

New Spells in V Rising 1.0 Update

Due to the fact that the ultimate Fallen Angel and Eye of the Storm were moved onto Soul Shards (discussed here), there are 3 new ultimates added as well as a Frost Magic counter, Cold Snap.

Cold Snap is an effective counter that will instantly apply freeze for 3 seconds on target.  This is a great counter that can immediately open up follow-up combos in PvP.

Lightning Typhoon is an extremely powerful ultimate for its movespeed but even moreso for the potential damage it can output.

Ice Block is a new ultimate for Frost magic.  Ice Block was previously a Frost Magic skill but it has been moved into an ultimate and buffed on its healing and the shield block timing.  Additionally, it has a large Vortex effect as well.

Army of the Dead is a new Ultimate in the Unholy Magic Spell tree.  Army of the Dead provides a large amount of skeletons for 8 seconds and can be effective earlier on in the game, as it is possible to unlock a Tier 3 Unholy Spell point quite early.

New Weapons and Armor in V Rising 1.0 Update

Two new weapons were added, one can be accessed from a Level 30 boss, the other from a Level 80 bossAll of the new armors are endgame sets that offer variety of stat bonuses for casters, brawlers, and rogue type playstyles.

New Weapons in V Rising 1.0 Update

The Whip and Longbow are the two new weapons in the V Rising 1.0 Update.  The Longbow can be aquired quite early on from a Level 30 boss, Lidia the Chaos Archer.  However, the Whip is unlocked after defeating Simon Belmont, who is Level 80.  Both the Longbow and Whip can be crafted from the Smithy and Anvil once they are unlocked.

Longbow

The Longbow in V Rising has the same range as the Crossbow, despite its name.  It has a charge up mechanic tied to it as well but shoots about max range at the same speed as the Crossbow.  Fully Charged shots will penetrate targets and destroyable terrain such as rocks, trees, or fences.  Penetrating shots deal 50% of the damage from the previous damage’s impact.

It also has a Focus mechanic tied to successful hits.  You can gain up to 3 stacks, that last for 10 seconds on a successful hit (on an enemy).  Focus will enhance the skills and be consumed upon use.

Multishot

Multishot fires a cone of 5 arrows in front of you.  With Focus, it will add another arrow per charge and boost their damage by 20% per charge.  This skill cannot multi-hit larger targets to stack damage point blank.  Therefore, it’s well used as a general area spray in front of you.  It’s best weaved in immediately after a charged shot is released for a rapid successive hit as it is quite fast.

Guided Arrow

This has a longer range and a snare attached to it.  Guided Arrow is effective for its long range (max charge range) and its 2 second snare.  Additionally, it will bounce back and forth through the target with more Focus charges.

Whip

The Whip in V Rising is a melee weapon with extended reach.  This makes it a very unique weapon but your character will stop in place when attacking or using skills.  This is the counter-balance to it being an effective melee type weapon.  It will however hit all targets between you and it’s max range.  It will deliver an extra 20% damage at the point of impact.  It is backed with highly effective skills as well though effective for chasing or kiting targets with a strong spell kit.

Aerial Whip Twirl

The first Whip skill, Aerial Whip Twirl, is incredibly effective.  It allows you to dash in a direction and quickly deliver a massive AOE attack for 100% damage with an additional 1.5 second snare.  Its difficult to miss this skill and can also double as a dodge.  It’s very useful for defensive or offensive situations.

Entangling Whip

Entangling Whip also delivers 100% of the damage but will couple with a strong utility root.  This will hit all targets between you and the end point of the whip.  This root will be broken once another instance of damage is dealt, but can be used to effectively follow up with a spell.

New Armor Sets in V Rising 1.0 Update

There are 7 new armor sets in the V Rising 1.0 Update.  Previously, you would craft Dawnthorn and upgrade it to Shadowmoon as the final sets of armor upgrades.  Now you will have Dawnthorn armor used as a crafting material to upgrade to 1 of 4 armor sets below.  Afterwards, they can be upgraded again after unlocking the final recipes from the end game bosses.

A full set of the Level 8 armors will require a total: 24 Ghost Yarn, 4 Primal Blood Essence, Dawnthorn armor set.

A full set of Level 9 armors will require a total: 36 Shadow Weave, 36 Bat Leather, Previous Upgraded Armor Tier.

Below showcases a comparison of all of the new sets and their upgrades:

New Bosses in V Rising 1.0 Update

Dracula the Immortal King – Level 90

Dracula is the newest end game boss and the most challenging fight in the game.  You must gain Access to Dracula’s Castle using a Blood Key.  The Blood Key can be crafted at the Artisan table once you have defeated Lord Styx, the Night Champion.  Lord Styx has since been moved from the Cursed Forest to Dracula’s Demise.  Defeating Dracula will unlock Dracula’s Chestguard and drop the Soul Shard of Dracula.  Changes to Soul Shards will be discussed later in this article.

General Valencia the Depraved – Level 83

General Valencia is located in the North part of Ruins of Mortium inside a camp.  Defeating Valencia will unlock Shadow Weave, used for making Dracula armor along with unlocking Primal Jewels for Tier 4 spell enhancements.

Simon Belmont the Vampire Hunter – Level 80

Simon is a roaming Vampire Hunter who roams along roads between Dunley Farmlands and Silverlight Hills.  Defeating Simon will unlock access to crafting the Whip.  Choose a terrain that is well suited and allows for a fair amount of movement before engaging Simon.

General Cassius the Betrayer – Level 57

Cassius is a roaming V Blood that wanders along the Southern portions of the Ruins of Mortium.  He will unlock Vampiric Brew, which is a new consumable that offers 10% Spell Leach and 5% Blood Type Efficiency.  He also unlocks the Stygian Summoning Circle which can be used to summon supplies much like the graveyard, but instead relies on Stygian Shards.

General Elena the Hollow – 53

General Elena unlocks the Altar of Stygian Awakening, which allows you to upgrade passives for your Spells.  Gaining access to this is very important and will allow you to passively enhance whichever spells you are focusing on.

Finn the Fisherman – 32

Finn will unlock access to craft the Fishing Pole.  He can be found early on in the game at the Northeast side of Farbane Woods.

Soul Shard Changes in V Rising 1.0 Update

Soul Shards no longer produce a shard that is stored in a Shard Pedestal and provides a passive buff.  These Pedestal buffs were very powerful when stacked together on a PvP server and likely were changed in favor of providing a healthier environment.  Instead, the Soul Shard’s now are necklaces you can replace to wear.  They are still quite powerful in providing 15% damage boost to Vampires, and 25% from Dracula’s Soul Shard.

These Soul Shards are not Blood-Bound, meaning they will drop if you die and can be picked up by others.  Additionally, they all provide unique ultimates that will replace your current ultimate.  Durability can be restored from Primal Blood Souls, which are the bosses of Tier 2 Rift Incursions.

Potions

Potions now last 60 minutes instead of 30 minutes.  They still persist through death as well.  This makes having buffs up from potions much more important and easier to maintain.

Vampiric Brew

Vampiric Brew is a new potion in Ruins of Mortium.  The Bleeding Heart is a new material that is present everywhere within the Ruins of Mortium.  They look much like Blood Rose Bushes.

New Buildings in V Rising 1.0 Update

There are new advanced versions of refining stations that have been added.  The only new materials to refine are for a new tier of armor, Dracula Armor.  The others are required to refine higher level materials and will naturally be unlocked on bosses in those ranges.

  • Advanced Furnace – No new craftables
  • Advanced Grinder – No new craftables
  • Advanced Blood Press – No new craftables
  • Advanced Tannery – Unlocks crafting Bat Leather for Dracula Armor.
  • Advanced Loom – Unlocks crafting Shadow Weave for Dracula Armor.

There are new Storage Container Options for every category, which makes storage a lot more conveinant and easy to manage.  This is a great quality of life change for base organization!

  • Altar of Stygian Awakening – Discussed earlier HERE in this post.  This is necessary to learn all of your passive skills.
  • Eye of Mortium – Discussed earlier HERE in this post.  Eye of Mortium allows you to passively track all Rift Incursions once constructed.
  • Stygian Summoning Circle – Discussed earlier HERE in this post.  This functions much like a Tomb but for other potentially needed items.
  • Altar of Recollection – This will allow you to reset your spell points at no cost.  Unlocked through completing the quest line
  • Target Dummy – Unlocked early on after defeating Grayson the Armourer (Level 27).  Allows you to easily test damage of varying spells and weapons
  • Altar of Darkness – Purely cosmetic and massive throne.  Unlocked after defeating Dracula
  • Music Box – Allows you to play Music of your choice in your home.

Other decorative items are in game that are not included in this list.  Above lists all of the functional additions you’ll be concerned with in the new V Rising 1.0 Update.

Spider Form – New Transformation

You will unlock Spider Form from Ungora the Spider Queen now.  Spider form allows you to burrow in the ground and hide from sunlight and other players if you choose.  It will reveal an obvious brown pile of dirt, so it is best used in foliage if you intend to hide from other players.  A great option if you randomly have to go AFK somewhere and don’t want to get cooked by the sun!
