Welcome to the Performance Guide for Throne & Liberty. In this guide, we will provide some tips and tricks for improving performance and framerate in Throne & Liberty.

Some players have had problems getting good performance (FPS/Ping) when playing Throne & Liberty, which not only makes the game less pleasant to play but can also cause slower reaction times and delayed input. This can be problematic for a game with fast-paced combat, especially one that is completely online and constantly communicating with the game’s servers.

Performance Tips for Throne & Liberty

Below are some things that you can try if you are having performance problems in Throne and Liberty. All of these options can be found in the game’s settings menu. You can find this by hitting Esc and then clicking on Settings.

Gameplay Performance Settings

We recommend changing the following items in Gameplay Settings to improve performance:

  • Disable “Show Others’ Amitoi” – When there are many players nearby, the game can struggle to render everyone’s Amitoi. Disabling this setting means that only your own Amitoi will be visible, which can speed the game up quite a bit.

Graphics Performance Settings

As you would expect, most of the settings that have an impact on performance in Throne and Liberty are found in the Graphics Settings. Making the following changes can drastically improve your performance in Throne & Liberty:

  • NVIDIA/AMD Super Resolution, change to “Ultra Performance” – Which of these settings is available for you depends if you have an NVIDIA or AMD graphics card. Super Resolution works by upscaling the game’s video to look sharper and clearer, however it can have a considerable performance hit. Turn this down to Performance or Ultra Performance and you should see a considerable framerate improvement.
  • Reduce screen resolution – This especially applies to people who play the game in 4K, but depending on your computer’s specifications it can apply to players with smaller monitors too. Rendering games in 4K resolution requires a huge amount of extra processing power compared to 1440p or 1080p. Turning down your resolution is one of the best ways to improve framerate in just about any game. Doing this will make the game appear less sharp, as the video output of the game needs to be enlarged to fit your monitor, but if you don’t mind the effect of this too much then I highly recommend reducing the resolution.
  • Disable Hair Strands – This is a cool setting for players with powerful computers that causes the game to render characters’ hair dynamically, however, this has a massive impact on framerate. If you are having any FPS problems, this should be one of the first things you turn off.
  • Turn on “Optimize Large-Scale Combat” – This setting changes the priority of the game’s rendering when you are in high-density combat situations, such as siege warfare in PvP. Enabling this setting can improve your performance in these situations.
  • Reduce Character Count – Character Count determines how many characters the game will render at a time. If you’re having performance problems, then turning this down is a great way to reduce the amount of work that your system has to do, improving framerate.
  • Disable post-processing effects – Like most games, Throne & Liberty has some post-processing options that can be turned on or off, such as depth of field, chromatic aberration and lens flare. These usually aren’t huge performance hits, but turning them off can still give you an extra frame or two.
  • Reduce graphics quality – If you have done all of the above and still have performance problems, then you may need to start reducing the overall graphics quality. You can start by reducing some of the most demanding aspects of rendering, such as shadows, lighting, anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering (turning this down from 16x to 8x or even 4x doesn’t have a massive impact on how the game looks, and can buy you a few frames). If you still have problems, then reduce the other settings as well.

There’s only one thing to mention here, which is that you can disable Blood Effects. This is very minor and you might not notice a performance improvement at all, but it’s something that you can try if you are aiming to optimize the game to have the highest framerate possible.

Turn off Background applications to fix Throne and Liberty FPS issues

A lot of PC users don’t realize that they have a lot of programs running in the background. These background programs can drain a lot of power from your PC and thus weakening the performance of Throne and Liberty or pretty much any game for that matter.

Some of the usual suspects that you want to shut down while playing any game:

  • Having a million Chrome tabs open while playing
  • Spotify
  • Netflix
  • Discord
  • Steam, Epic, GOG, EA, Ubisoft Launcher open at the same time

The list could go on for a while, but the moral of the story is that you should turn off anything that you don’t use. Often programs try to get into your auto start settings. Navigate to the task manage, go to the “Startup” section and deactivate anything that you don’t really need when you start up your PC.
