What are Reactors, and Why Should I Farm Them?

Reactors are one of the most important aspects of your character in TFD. They not only determine your basic skill power, but can put considerable multipliers on your damage output if you equip a Reactor that is a good fit for your character. For example:

  • If your most damaging skills have the Fire & Tech attributes, finding a Reactor that provides extra boosts to these attributes will greatly improve your damage output.
  • Reactors have an Optimization condition, a simple yes/no check which is easy to fulfil, such as having a certain weapon type equipped. Make sure you fulfil this condition to get another big boost.
  • Reactors can also provide other bonuses, such as extra Critical Damage.

Staying mindful of the three points mentioned above will help you to select the perfect Reactor for your character. However, due to the RNG nature of looted Reactors, you’ll probably need to loot a lot of them before you find a rare one that has all of these features along with a high Skill Power rating. So unless you’re very lucky, you’ll need a way to farm many Reactors to brute force your way through this problem. That’s where this guide comes in.

How to Farm Reactors Fast in The First Descendant

The best way to farm Reactors is to play Void Intercept Battles. These are special missions where you are tasked with defeating a powerful Colossus boss. There are Normal and Hard variants of these battles. Each Void Intercept Battle has an unlock requirement which you can check by viewing the mission preview.

While you can farm Reactors by completing any missions, these Void Intercept Battles are by far the best way, and they have a tendency to drop higher quality Reactors. They also fulfil other purposes, such as allowing you to open Amorphous Materials that you might have found – useful for unlocking the other Descendants, among other things.

Some of these battles are quite difficult, especially if you haven’t spent much time developing your character yet, so give the normal difficulty battles a try before attempting the hard ones.

Before entering the battle, you can preview some information about the Colossus you’ll be fighting against, including the damage type dealt by its attacks and which damage types it is weak and resistant to. For example, the GraveWalker deals Fire damage but is weak to Chill damage. Therefore, you can make the battle easier by selecting Modules on your Descendant and Weapons that make you more resistant to Fire Damage and infuse Chill damage into your Firearm attacks. This is optional, but it can save your life in these battles.
