Today we are going to take a look at how to split up your party in Baldur’s Gate 3. This is often an easily overlooked feature that is very helpful and will enable a lot of special tactics. In Baldur’s Gate 3 you can split up all of your team members in an area or just split up 1 member of your group.
This is helpful if you plan an attack on an enemy team. One of your characters might want to sneak around and attack from behind. Whereas the other part of the group will assault from the front. Or you might want to place your archer on higher ground before the fight starts.
If you don’t split up your group, the other group members will simply follow you and you won’t be able to do any special tactics since you are just one group blob.
How to split up your group in Baldur’s Gate 3
Take a look at the left side of your screen. All your party member logos are located there. In the image below you see the red circled button. This is the “Toggle Group Mode” button. If you click on it all your members will be split up or put back together. Now this will allow you to separate your group completely. However, that is not all.
You can also click on a character avatar and drag him away from the group. You will see how your characters are chained together. Pull your character for so long until the chain breaks. Then you know your character has been split up from the rest of your group in Baldur’s Gate 3.
The image below shows a fully stacked group. Everyone will follow each other.
In the next image below you see the group is split up. One of my characters is far in the back and the others aren’t following.
