What are Murmuring Obols in Diablo 4?
Diablo 4 Murmuring Obols are a special and rare currency type that you can find.
If you’ve already played the game for a little while then it’s likely that you have already found some of them, but might not be too sure what exactly they’re used for.
While you don’t necessarily need to make use of Murmuring Obols at all in Diablo 4, doing so can definitely help you to obtain better gear for your character.
Where to Find Murmuring Obols in Diablo 4
The main way that you find Murmuring Obols in Diablo 4 is by completing World Events.
World Events are encounters found throughout the world of sanctuary where you will need to fend off enemies in order to complete a certain objective, for example defending a caravan from attackers.
When you complete the World Event, a stack of Murmuring Obols may drop as a reward, along with some other loot.
Where to Spend Murmuring Obols
There’s currently one place where you can spend Murmuring Obols, and that is the Purveyor of Curioisities.
The Purveyor of Curiosities is a special type of merchant who can be found in major towns throughout Sanctuary. This merchant will sell you random pieces of gear, of a type of your choice. For example if you buy boots from the Purveyor, then you will recieve a new boots item with random properties. There’s a fairly low chance that the item will be of Legendary quality.
If this system isn’t to your liking, then you can also purchase a Whispering Key from the Purveyor.
Whispering Keys are used to open Silent Chests which can be randomly found throughout Sanctuary, often in the place of regular chests.
It’s a good idea to carry a Whispering Key around with you to make sure you can open a Silent Chest when you find one – they may not be there when you return to the spot.
But what exactly are Silent Chests? Essentially, they are a better version of normal chests, which are more likely to contain high quality items. Opening it will consume the key, so you’ll need to buy another one from the Purveyor if you want to open more Silent Chests.
All in all, Murmuring Obols are not necessarily vital to your Diablo 4 playthrough, but they are a useful way of obtaining more high quality gear that will be increasingly beneficial as you progress towards the endgame of Diablo 4.
