When browsing various tooltips in Diablo 4, you might have noticed something called Lucky Hits being referred to.

In this guide, we will explain what exactly a Lucky Hit is, and how it differs from other effects, such as Critical Strikes.

What are Lucky Hits in Diablo 4?

At first, it is easy to confuse Lucky Hits with Critical Strikes. However, these are actually two completely different things.

A Critical Strike guarantees you a bonus damage value when it happens, but Lucky Hits don’t necessarily do anything at all.

Each skill in Diablo 4 has its own base Lucky Hit chance – in order to view this, you need to enable Advanced Tooltips in the game’s Settings. For example, the Forceful Arrow skill has a 50% base Lucky Hit Chance.

But what’s the point in Lucky Hits? Essentially, some skills and gear items in the game come with an additional effect that will trigger when you score a Lucky Hit.

You might find a Staff that has a 5% chance to immediately execute an enemy when you hit them with a Lucky Hit. Effects like this can be pretty powerful, so you might want to maximise the chance of this happening if you have such a weapon. Below we’ll explain how you can go about doing that.

How to Get Lucky Hit Effects in Diablo 4

As mentioned earlier, Lucky Hits on their own don’t actually do anything. We need a skill, passive or item that procs on Lucky Hits.

Besides skills and passives, the best way of adding Lucky Hit effects to your gear is with Legendary Gear. For example, you can find Legendary items in the world that will do something special when you score a Lucky Hit, such as the Staff example mentioned above.

You can also make use of Legendary Aspects to apply new Lucky Hit effects to your gear. To learn more about how that works, check our Codex of Power Guide.

How to Increase your Lucky Hit Chance in Diablo 4

There are a couple of ways to increase your Lucky Hit Chance. First of all, it’s important to use skills that have a high base Lucky Hit Chance to begin with. To check that, turn on Advanced Tooltips in the settings, and you’ll be able to see how much chance each one of your skills has to score a Lucky Hit. A couple of examples are the Forceful Arrow skill which has a 50% chance, and Frost Bolt which has a 30% chance.

Once you’ve decided which skills you want to use, you can then turn to your gear. It’s possible to roll an increased Lucky Hit Chance modifier on Rings, Gloves and Wands. So if you want to make a build that utilizes Lucky Hits, then it’s quite important to make use of this option.

Combining skills, passives and gear that increase your Lucky Hit chance with effects that proc on Lucky Hits will unlock new build options for you to explore in Diablo 4.
