Welcome to our Diablo 4 guide explaining how to upgrade Healing Potions. In this guide we will explain exactly what you need to do in order to upgrade your Healing Potions in Diablo 4.

Healing Potions are a very common item in Diablo 4, often dropping from enemies or being found in treasure chests, or other places where loot may be found. They are essential for survival during your adventures, being a reliable and consistent way of restoring your health.

However, the healing potions that you start the game with can begin to get obsolete as you level up and start encountering harder enemies and bosses. To make sure you can keep yourself healthy in these higher level fights, it’s a good idea to upgrade your healing potions when possible.

How to Upgrade Healing Potions in Diablo 4

Before you can upgrade your healing potions in Diablo 4, you first need to reach level 10. You will unlock a new upgrade for your healing potions every 10 levels thereafter (except for the moderate and strong upgrades at levels 45 and 60).

In order to get the upgrades, you will need to head to an Alchemist and possess the necessary resources to craft the upgrade.

How to Find the Alchemist in Diablo 4

The most accessible alchemist early in the game can be found in the city of Kyovashad. If you haven’t found Kyovashad yet, don’t worry – simply continue progressing the main quest and you will find it pretty soon. It’s a location that you will reach quite early in the game, almost certainly before you reach level 10 and become eligible for the first Healing Potion upgrade.

Also, once you reach level 10 you will receive a quest called Healing Potion Upgrading that directs you to the Kyovashad Alchemist

Upgrading the Potions

Once you’ve found the Alchemist, you can interact with them in order to upgrade your Healing Potions. The first upgrade is very easy to get, only requiring a small amount of resources in order to craft it, but each subsequent upgrade will cost more resources.

No matter which tier of Healing Potion you have currently, they will always heal you for 35% of your maximum health over a period of 3 seconds. However the instant burst heal of each tier is set at a flat value which can become obsolete as you level up and your maximum health drastically increases.

This is why it’s important to keep upgrading your Healing Potions when possible, otherwise the flat healing of the potion will eventually become pretty much useless. This makes it considerably harder to stay alive in tough fights, particularly Strongholds and bosses.

Superior Healing Vial Level 90 1274 Life 36 Blightshade, 36 Howler Moss, 20 Demon’s Heart, 20 Grave Dust, 20 Angelbreath, 10 Fiend Rose, 10 Forgotten Soul, 12500 gold

From the exponential increase in the flat healing values, you can see why it’s important to keep on top of your Healing Potion upgrades – if you neglect this for too long then you will end up losing out on a huge amount of potential healing from your potions.

The plants found in many of the potion upgrades, such as Gallowvine and Biteberry can be easily harvested from bushes found in the world – you’ll probably find a lot of these during your travels so just loot them as you find them and you’ll most likely have plenty for all of your Healing Potion upgrades.

Some of the other ingredients, such as Grave Dust and Demon’s Heart, can be found by defeating certain enemy types, in this case undead and demons respectively. Just remember to loot enemies after defeating them and you’ll likely have plenty of these stashed away by the time you need them for the potion upgrades.
