Welcome to our Lim Tae-Gyu Build Guide for Solo Leveling: ARISE OVERDRIVE.

In this guide, we will explain how each one of Lim Tae-Gyu’s skills work and how best to use them. We will provide more general tips for how to get the most out of Lim Tae-Gyu.

We will also include a build guide for Lim Tae-Gyu. While Hunter builds aren’t as widely customisable as Sung Jinwoo, you can still customise your equipment and level up your skills. We’ll walk you through these so you can find the best items and prioritise the best skill upgrades first.

Please note that this guide is currently a work in progress. It will be updated over the course of Arise Overdrive’s early access period and following on from the full launch of the game.

Lim Tae-Gyu Skill Overview – SL Arise Overdrive

Here is an overview of Lim Tae-Gyu’s skills in Solo Leveling: ARISE OVERDRIVE, and how to use them.

Basic Skills

Dark Shot

Tae-Gyu fires an arrow imbued with the power of darkness.

This deals pretty good DPS if you spam it at a target. But remember that all ranged attacks in Solo Leveling: ARISE OVERDRIVE are directional, based on which direction your character is facing. This means you must turn to face the enemy, otherwise your shots will be wasted.

Volley Fire

Heavy Attack. Tae-Gyu fires multiple arrows simultaneously.

Press C to activate. A wide volley of arrows. While not much, this is basically the only AoE power Lim Tae-Gyu has. You can also use it at point-blank range to get all of the arrows to hit one target for a big burst of damage, but that is risky unless the target is stunned.

Shoot and Maneuver

Tae-Gyu slides in the input direction while firing, triggering a Heavy Attack. This skill can be used up to 2 times.

Press Q to activate. Make sure Tae-Gyu is facing towards the enemy you want to target.

Typhoon Fire

Tae-Gyu gathers powerful energy into an arrow and strikes. Significantly increases this skill’s Critical Hit Damage.

Press E to activate. This will charge up a shot for extra damage, but make sure you have enough time and space to stay put for a couple of seconds, otherwise you might get hit while charging up the skill.

Special Skills

Heavy Attack: Typhoon Fire

Tae-Gyu gathers powerful energy into an arrow and strikes. When he attacks enemies, their Defense decreases temporarily.

This is a support skill, so it can only be used when Tae-Gyu is supporting Sung Jinwoo.

Airborne Burst

QTE Skill. Tae-Gyu jumps into the air and shoots explosive arrows. Upon landing, he fires multiple arrows forward, increasing the Critical Hit Rate of the entire team for a long period of time.

Tae-Gyu will use this skill automatically when you switch to him with Left Shift (when prompted). Make sure you are facing towards an enemy before you switch, otherwise the skill might go to waste.

Tactical Shot

Synchro Chain. Tae-Gyu slides forward while firing, leaps to fire an exploding arrow, then follows up with suppressive fire.

When you press T when prompted, all Hunters in your party will use their Synchro Chain skill at once for a powerful burst of damage.

Quick Attack: Typhoon Fire

Ultimate Skill. Tae-Gyu spins once, adjusts his stance, and enters Sniper Mode. His Basic Attack changes to Quick Attack: Typhoon Fire, significantly increasing the Skill’s Critical Hit Damage. Max 8 Shots.

Press R to activate your Ultimate when it is fully charged. This is a temporary stance that boosts the damage of your basic attacks. It makes the most sense to use it against strong single-target enemies such as a boss, but don’t be too picky about it, either.

Unique Skills

Dash Combo Attack

When tapping the Basic Attack Button after performing Dash, the user can use Dash Combo Attack.

Back Dash Combo Attack

When tapping the Basic Attack Button after performing Back Dash, the user can use Back Dash Combo Attack.

Deflect Combo Attack

When tapping the Basic Attack Button after performing Deflect, the user can use Deflect Combo Attack.

How to Play Lim Tae-Gyu

Lim Tae-Gyu is an excellent ranged damage dealer, but he has barely any AoE attacks at all – he is great at fighting bosses from a distance, but you must learn to kite and aim properly or you’ll struggle to get any value out of him at all.

Aiming can feel a little strange at first in Arise Overdrive, because your character doesn’t care what direction your camera is pointing in, they will cast their skill in the direction they are facing. This causes a problem for new players who try to kite with a ranged character and keep shooting all of their skills off into the middle of nowhere. You have to pause your kiting for a moment, tap W to turn your character around to face the enemy, and then use your skills. Once you’ve mastered that, you can only get better as you become more experienced and better at judging how much time and space you need to use each Skill.

Lim Tae-Gyu is also quite squishy but once you can kite properly this doesn’t matter much.

Lim Tae-Gyu has Overdrive slots instead of an Overdrive Gauge. Press V to activate Overdrive, consuming one slot. You will fire an arrow in the targeted direction, reset the cooldown of Shoot and Maneuver and gain a stack of Locked and Loaded, increasing your Critical Hit Rate. This can stack up to five times.

Lim Tae-Gyu has a small chance to restore an Overdrive slot every time he hits a target with consecutive shots.

Lim Tae-Gyu Skill Upgrade Priorities – SL Arise Overdrive

As mentioned above, Hunter skills in Solo Leveling: ARISE OVERDRIVE are split up into Basic Skills, Special Skills and Unique Skills. Of these, only Basic and Special Skills can be upgraded. The upgrades are done in groups – for example, you upgrade all Basic Skills at once, rather than upgrading the skills individually.

It is generally more important to upgrade the Basic Skills rather than the Special Skills, because the Basic Skills are used much more often (this group includes your Basic Attack, Heavy Attack and the skills activated by pressing Q or E). So if you have to make a choice between the two, always go for Basic Skills.

In practice, however, it is usually easier to upgrade them in a balanced manner, upgrading both groups to rank 2, then upgrading them both to rank 3, and so forth. This is because each tier is significantly more expensive than the last, so rushing a full set of Basic Skill upgrades usually isn’t possible unless you’ve played through the whole game without doing any upgrades.
