NEWER version: How is the Oakensoul Ring changing in U35 Lost Depths. They added some new extra buffs.
Players are upset and angry about the Oakensoul Ring nerf that will likely go into effect in late August when the U35 Lost Depths DLC launches in ESO (The Elder Scrolls Online). On the public test server of the next update players discovered a heavy nerf to one of the most favorite new items in the High Isle Chapter, namely the Oakensoul Ring Mythic Item.

Developer Comment on the patch notes: “The original intent of this set was to improve accessibility of one bar builds by providing many bonuses that you would get from running extra abilities on your back bar, and a few other named sources that may come from coordinated groups to help make up for the flexibility and specialization loss of having 5 ability choices instead of 10. While we did see the suggestions we’re incorporating now, we didn’t want to go too hard on the set after the heavy nerfs to the original form without some more concrete metrics and evidence, which we have gathered since Update 34 had launched. We now feel comfortable that the set will still be incredibly impactful for its target audience but in a much more balanced way.”
The reaction of the ESO community wasn’t very kind, most players are angry at ZOS for changing the ring so soon after its release, claiming they only did it to sell the High Isle Chapter.
Was the nerf to Oakensoul expected?
I stated many times that the Oakensoul Ring is high on the target list for nerfs because of its power. I guessed that a nerf will hit the ring in either U35 or U36. They often nerf Mythics at the end of the year DLC to make space for new juicy Mythics. This time they didn’t wait that long and already adjust the ring in U35 Lost Depths DLC that will launch in late August.
Is the Oakensoul Ring Mythic still good?
Yes, the Ring still gives you a huge amount of buffs. For solo players and players in unoptimized groups these buffs are still very important. Optimized groups won’t really benefit from the ring anymore because these groups already have these buffs built in in most cases. The ring is definitely more balanced now than before. Yes it sucks to get hit by nerfs, the devs should have never released the ring in its state on the live server. However, this seems to be a much more appropriate version. Still powerful, but not as crazy juiced up as before.
