The Mana Painter is a Sorcerer subclass in Solasta 2. This guide will explain how to create a powerful Mana Painter build, including the best weapons, armour, spells, ability distribution, skills, and more.

The Mana Painter has unmatched mastery of Sorcery. You can absorb mana from enemy creatures to power your Metamagic abilities, or forge mana into a protective shield.

Sorcerer Class Overview – Solasta 2

Sorcerers are powerful spellcasters with access to a wide range of spells. While their arcane knowledge is not quite as widespread as that of Wizards, Sorcerers have a natural ability and attunement to magic. They can use this talent to modify their spells.

Please note that Solasta 2 is an early access game, so most of the information in this guide is a work in progress. Last updated March 2026

Here is what your Sorcerer will start with at Level 1 in Solasta II:

  • Weapon Proficiencies – You have Proficiency with Simple Weapons only, by default. More Proficiencies may be added from other sources.
  • Armour Proficiencies – None
  • Saving Throw Proficiencies – Constitution & Charisma
  • Skill Proficiencies – Choose 2 from Arcana, Deception, Insight, Intimidation, Persuasion, Religion
  • Sorcerer Spellcasting – You can cast spells and cantrips from the Sorcerer spell list. You will unlock more powerful spells as you level up.
  • Innate Sorcery – For 1 minute, gain Advantage on spell attack rolls and +1 to Spell Save Difficulty Class. Can be used twice per Long Rest.

Why Choose the Mana Painter Sorcerer?

While the Star Child is more focused on maximised damage output, the Mana Painter plays into the Sorcerer’s metamagic feature more. Once per Long Rest, you can regain your Sorcery Points to power more Metamagic (or create extra Spell Slots).

The Mana Painter also gains Temporary HP whenever they cast a spell, affording them slightly better survivability than other Sorcerers.

Overall, the Mana Painter is well-suited to players who prefer a more cautious and strategic approach to combat, rather than always pushing as much damage as possible.


Mana Painter Sorcerer Build Starting Point – Solasta 2

This section will explain which options you should choose in character creation, including the best ancestry/race, ability distribution and skills.

Best Ancestry

The best Ancestry for the Mana Painter Sorcerer is the High Elf:

  • You know the Solasta 2 firebolt icon Fire Bolt Cantrip. It can optionally be replaced with another Wizard Cantrip after each Long Rest.
  • Darkvision – You can see in the dark up to 18 metres away. This is essential because Sorcerers need to make lots of ranged attacks.
  • Fey Ancestry – You have Solasta 2 advantage icon Advantage on Saving Throws against the Charmed condition.
  • Keen Senses – You gain Proficiency in either Insight, Perception or Survival.
  • Trance – Magic can’t put you to sleep, and you retain consciousness during Long Rests.

However, the differences between the races in Solasta 2 are currently quite small, so feel free to choose the option you like the most.


Best Background

The best Background for the Mana Painter Sorcerer Build is Solasta 2 background occultist Occultist. It gives you the following bonuses:

  • Allows you to further improve Dexterity, Constitution and Charisma scores.
  • Proficiency with the Medicine and Deception Skills.
  • You can use the Scroll Kit to craft scrolls.
  • You get the Magic Initiate: Wizard Origin Feat, which unlocks two additional Cantrips from the Wizard list.

If you choose a different background, it’s vital to pick one that can boost Charisma!


Ability Distribution

Solasta 2 Mana Painter Sorcerer Build Character Creation

The best Ability Distribution for your Mana Painter Sorcerer Build is:

Strength – 8

Strength is not required for the Sorcerer class.

Dexterity – 16

Dexterity is used to increase your Armour Class, which is vital because Sorcerers cannot wear armour. It also helps with a variety of Saving Throws.

Attain 16 DEX by putting 14 of your base points, then 2 points from the Occultist background.

Constitution – 14

Putting 14 points in Constitution ensures you have enough HP to survive tougher combat encounters in Solasta 2. It also helps you to succeed on Constitution Saving Throws and shake off some debilitating debuffs.

Intelligence – 10

The Sorcerer casts spells with Charisma, so investment in Intelligence isn’t required.

Wisdom – 10

Wisdom is also unimportant for the Sorcerer.

Charisma – 16

Charisma is the Sorcerer’s spellcasting ability. Increasing it improves the damage and accuracy of your spells. It also helps you with Charisma-based Skills like Persuasion.

Attain 16 CHA by putting in 15 of your base points, then 1 point from the Occultist background.

Solasta 2 warning icon Important: The Even Number Rule:

  • Every second point in an ability score over 10 adds +1 to that ability modifier, which is what actually improves your dice rolls.
  • This means that increasing a score from 10 to 11 makes no difference, but increasing it to 12 will add a +1 buff to any rolls made with that ability.
  • Therefore, we will usually avoid leaving any abilities on an odd number.
    • Exception: You can leave one ability on an odd number in character creation if you are planning to bump it up by 1 with your first Feat unlock at Level 4.

Best Skills

Assign the following Skill Proficiencies:

Skills: Sorcerer Class

  • Persuasion– Helps you to convince characters to see things your way.
  • Intimidation– Scare characters into doing what you want.

Skills: Elf Ancestry

Choose any of the three options. All of them are useful.

Languages: Elf Ancestry

The choice here depends on what the rest of your party will take. Try to cover as many of the options as possible.


Cantrips

The number of Cantrips you can choose depends on your Ancestry. You will have at least four choices from your Sorcerer class.

We recommend the following Cantrips:

Solasta 2 light icon Light

  • Allows you to Solasta 2 light source icon illuminate dark areas without holding a lantern.
  • Your Sorcerer will automatically cast it when it’s dark.
  • If everyone in your party has Darkvision, you don’t need to take this.

Solasta 2 firebolt icon Fire Bolt

  • Deals 1d10 Solasta 2 fire damage icon Fire Damage.
  • This is the go-to Cantrip for most situations.
  • High Elves will already have this, so if you are a High Elf you should choose something else.

Solasta 2 poison spray icon Poison Spray

  • Deals 1d12 Solasta 2 poison damage icon Poison Damage
  • Has a fairly limited range

Solasta 2 Sorcerous Burst Icon Sorcerous Burst

  • Choose an element and deal 1d8 damage of that type.
  • Great for exploiting an elemental weakness or bypassing a resistance.

Solasta 2 Shocking Grasp Icon Shocking Grasp

  • Deals  Solasta 2 lightning icon Lightning Damage and prevents the target from taking Opportunity Attacks this turn.
  • Good for escaping from a melee enemy who has caught up to your Sorcerer.

Solasta 2 Ray of Frost icon Ray of Frost

  • Deals 1d8 Solasta 2 cold damage icon Cold Damage and slows down the target’s movement.
  • Good for slowing the advance or retreat of a dangerous enemy.

Solasta 2 chill touch icon Chill Touch

  • Deals 1d10 Solasta 2 Necrotic Damage Necrotic Damage and prevents the target from healing this turn.
  • Melee-only range, so it’s a bit risky to use.
  • Best used when fighting against an enemy with an annoying healing mechanic.

If you can’t unlock all of these Cantrips right away, return to this list later in the game when you unlock more slots.


Spells

Sorcerers can Solasta 2 prepared tick icon Prepare two Spells at the start of the game.

We recommend these choices to begin with:

Solasta 2 mage armour icon Mage Armour

  • This spell is essential, increasing your base armour class from 10 to 13.
  • You should cast this after every Long Rest. Without it, your Mana Painter Sorcerer will be far too easy to hit.

Solasta 2 Shield Icon Shield

  • Can be activated as a Reaction when you are about to take a hit.
  • Increases your Armour Class by 5 for 1 turn.
  • Can also block Magic Missile.

If you followed our recommendations in the Ancestry section above, you’ll also get to choose one spell from the Wizard list.

If you have this option, we recommend choosing:

Solasta 2 identify icon Identify

  • Identify all unidentified items carried by your party, revealing their full effects.
  • Can be cast as a Ritual outside of combat, so it doesn’t cost any Spell Slots.
  • Having a party member with this spell means you can use rare items as soon as you find them.

Mana Painter Sorcerer Build Levelling Up Guide – Solasta 2

In this section, we’ll explain what your Mana Painter Sorcerer will unlock at each level and the best choices to make when levelling up.

Level 2

At Level 2, your Sorcerer unlocks the powerful Metamagic features, which will only become stronger as you level up.

Font of Magic

  • You gain Sorcery Points, which can be used to make your spells more potent with Metamagic.
  • Sorcery Points may also be used to create Spell Slots, or you can sacrifice Spell Slots to create Sorcery Points.
  • You start with 2 Sorcery Points, and gain more as you level up.
  • All Sorcery Points are replenished after a Long Rest.

Metamagic

  • You must choose 2 Metamagic Options.
  • These empower a spell in some way, depending on your choices. Spend Sorcery Points to activate them.
  • Whenever you level up, you can replace one of your Metamagic options with one you don’t know.
  • At Level 10, you’ll gain 2 more options.

We recommend choosing the following Metamagic options:

Quickened Spell

  • You can cast a spell with a Bonus Action instead of an Action.
  • You are still limited to one Spell Slot cast per turn, so practically this allows you to cast a spell and a cantrip on the same turn.

Twinned Spell

  • A spell that usually affects one target can instead be used on two.

Level 3

At Level 3, you must choose your Sorcerer subclass. For this build, we are using the Mana Painter subclass.

New Mana Painter Subclass Features

Mana Painter Spells

  • The following spells are always Solasta 2 prepared tick icon Prepared:
    • Solasta 2 colour spray icon Colour SpraySolasta 2 blinded condition Blind creatures in a conal area in front of your Sorcerer for 1 turn.
    • Solasta 2 bane icon Bane – Target 3 creatures and subtract 1d4 from their attack rolls and saving throws for 1 minute. Requires Concentration. Can be upcast to add more targets.
    • Solasta 2 acid arrow icon Acid Arrow – On hit, deals 4d4 initial Solasta 2 Acid Damage Acid Damage, and 2d4 Solasta 2 Acid Damage Acid Damage delayed until the end of the target’s next turn.
    • Solasta 2 calm emotions icon Calm Emotions – Friendly creatures within the targeted area are immune to Charmed and Frightened until the spell ends.

Mana Shield

  • Whenever you cast a spell, you gain Temporary HP equal to triple the Spell Slot Level used.

Solasta 2 mana drain icon Mana Drain

  • On melee hit, deal Solasta 2 force damage icon Force Damage equal to 2d8 + Sorcerer Level.
  • You also regain Sorcery Points equal to half your Sorcerer Level.
  • When you successfully hit a target with this action, you cannot use it again until after the next Long Rest.

New Sorcerer Spell

You can choose another Sorcerer spell to Solasta 2 prepared tick icon Prepare. You now have access to second-level spells. Best option:

Solasta 2 Scorching Ray Icon Scorching Ray

  • Create 3 rays of fire. Each ray deals 2d6 Solasta 2 fire damage icon Fire Damage on hit.
  • Each ray can be aimed at a different target.
  • Each upcast level adds an additional ray.

Level 4

At Level 4, you can choose a new Feat and one more spell to prepare.

Ability Improvement

  • Put both points into Charisma, bringing it up to 18.
  • This will improve your spellcasting accuracy and damage.

Solasta 2 warning icon Early Access currently stops at Level 4; the rest of the levelling-up section is speculative and partially based on Solasta: Crown of the Magister.


Level 6

Mana Absorption

  • Add your Charisma Modifier to Saving Throws against spells.

Level 8

Feat

  • Select a Feat or improve an Ability.

Level 10

Additional Metamagic

  • Choose one more Metamagic ability to unlock.

Level 12

Feat

  • Select a Feat or improve an Ability.

Mana Painter Build Best Equipment

In this section, we will list the best equipment for the Mana Painter in Solasta II, including how to obtain each item.

In the current early-access version, crafting hasn’t been implemented yet, and the amount of equipment you can loot is quite limited.


Mana Painter Sorcerer Tips & Tricks

The Sorcerer’s Innate Sorcery feature is vital for playing the class to its full potential.

Activate it when you need to deal fast damage to a dangerous enemy, then follow up with a high-impact Attack Roll spell like Scorching Ray. If you also combine this with Quickened Spell, then you’ll deal bonus damage from your Shooting Stars and can follow up with another Cantrip on the same turn.

On calmer turns, the Mana Painter Sorcerer can chip away at enemies by casting Cantrips or use other spells to buff allies or debuff enemies.

Look out for weak targets to use your Mana Drain against. If successful, you get back half of your Sorcery Points and deal a decent chunk of damage. Don’t use this if you still have more than half of your Sorcery Points remaining, because this is quite wasteful.
