Welcome to our Commander Fighter Build for Solasta II.

The Commander is a Fighter subclass in Solasta II. This guide will explain how to create a powerful Commander Fighter build, including the best weapons, armour, spells, ability distribution, skills, and more.

The Commander is a melee heavy-hitter who inspires nearby allies, making your whole party’s attacks more clinical in the key moments of combat.

Fighter Class Overview – Solasta II

Fighters are trained in the arts of combat. They are adept with most weapons, but often choose to specialize. All fighters can use armor, shields, and ranged weapons. Heavily armed and armored, fighters live for battle. They are strong, skilled with multiple weapons, and tough enough to stand up to most kinds of foe.

Please note that Solasta 2 is an early access game, so most of the information in this guide is a work in progress. Last updated March 2026

Here is what your Fighter will start the game with at Level 1:

  • Weapon Proficiencies – Simple Weapons, Martial Weapons
  • Armour Proficiencies – Light Armour, Medium Armour, Heavy Armour, Shields
  • Saving Throw Proficiencies – Strength & Constitution
  • Skill Proficiencies – Any 2 from Acrobatics, Animal Handling, Athletics, History, Insight, Intimidation, Perception, Survival
  • Smithing – You can craft arrows and bolts with Smith’s Tools
  • Fighting Style – Choose one from:
    • Archery – Gain a +2 bonus to ranged weapon attack rolls
    • Defense – While wearing armour, you get a +1 Solasta 2 Armour Class icon Armour Class bonus
    • Great Weapon Fighting – When you roll a 1 or a 2 on a damage die for a melee weapon wielded in both hands, you can reroll the die. You must use the new roll.
    • Shielding – When wielding a Shield and a nearby ally is attacked, you can use your Solasta 2 Reaction icon Reaction to give +2 Solasta 2 Armour Class icon Armour Class to the ally.
    • Two-Weapon Fighting – When using two melee weapons, you add your Ability Modifier to the damage of the second attack.
  • Solasta 2 Second Wind Icon Second Wind – Use a bonus action to regain HP equal to (1d10 + character level)

Why Choose the Commander Subclass?

The Commander forms the core of a party that relies strongly on Attack Rolls rather than on spells that trigger Saving Throws.

At Level 3, you unlock Solasta 2 rousing shout icon Rousing Shout, which gives your entire party Solasta 2 advantage icon Advantage on their next Attack Roll, and this can be used up to three times per Short Rest.

Plentiful use of Solasta 2 rousing shout icon Rousing Shout when fighting a tough enemy helps to make your party’s attacks significantly more accurate when it matters the most.

Commander Fighter Build Starting Point – Solasta II

This section will explain which options you should choose in character creation, including the best ancestry/race, ability distribution and skills.

Best Ancestry

The best Ancestry for the Commander build is currently the Human:

  • Resourceful (Heroic Inspiration) – Once per Long Rest, you can reroll a failed roll.
  • Extra Skill Proficiency – Humans can freely choose one additional Skill to assign.
  • Versatile – Choose an Origin Feat:
    • Quick – I recommend choosing Quick, giving you an extra 5 metres of Movement Range.
    • Skilled – Another great option that gives you three additional unrestricted Skill choices.

However, another very viable option is the Sylvan Elf. This ancestry gives you the same amount of bonus Movement Speed as the Quick Feat mentioned above.

Best Background

The best Background for the Commander Build is Solasta 2 wanderer background Wanderer. This is very important for the build. It gives you the following bonuses:

  • Allows you to further improve Strength, Constitution and Dexterity scores.
  • Proficiency with the Animal Handling and Survival Skills.
  • You can use the Herbalism Kit to craft potions.
  • You get the Savage Attacker Origin Feat, which rerolls all weapon damage dice and chooses the highest result. This is a significant boost to your average damage right out of the gate.

Ability Distribution

Solasta 2 commander build character creation

The best Ability Distribution for your Commander Fighter Build is:

Strength – 16

Strength increases the damage and accuracy of your melee weapon attacks, so it’s the most important ability score for the Fighter class.

Spend 14 of your basic points on Strength, then 2 points from the Wanderer Background to bring it up to 16.

Dexterity – 14

Dexterity is used to increase your Armour Class (unless you wear Heavy Armour) and also helps with a variety of Saving Throws. It’s also used to determine the accuracy and damage of bow/crossbow attacks. Putting a few points here is worth it, particularly if you plan to wear Medium Armour.

Constitution – 16

Having a high Constitution score ensures you have plenty of HP, which is important for a melee build like the Fighter, as you’ll normally take a lot of attacks from enemies.

Spend 15 of your basic points on Constitution, then 1 point from the Wanderer Background to bring it up to 16.

Intelligence – 10

Intelligence is not important for the build. We left it at 10 to avoid debuffs on Intelligence Saving Throws.

Wisdom – 10

Just like Intelligence, we left Wisdom at 10 to avoid Saving Throw penalties.

Charisma – 8

Charisma is not important for our build. Just ensure someone else in your party has good Charisma, so they can handle the Charisma Skill rolls in dialogue.

Solasta 2 warning icon Important: The Even Number Rule:

  • Every second point in an ability score over 10 adds +1 to that ability modifier, which is what actually improves your dice rolls.
  • This means that increasing a score from 10 to 11 makes no difference, but increasing it to 12 will add a +1 buff to any rolls made with that ability.
  • Therefore, we will usually avoid leaving any abilities on an odd number.

Best Proficiencies

Assign the following Proficiencies:

Skills: Fighter Class

  • Athletics – Your character is better at physically demanding tasks like climbing, jumping and swimming.
  • Acrobatics – Helps you to stay on your feet in tricky situations, like when walking on ice.

Weapon Mastery Proficiencies: Fighter Class

The Fighter already has Proficiency with all martial weapons in the game. But your choices here allow you to specialise in three weapon types, gaining an extra passive ability when using those weapons.

  • Greataxe – One of the best melee weapon types available. Allows you to make a secondary melee attack against a nearby enemy after hitting the first target.
  • Longsword – Can be used to impose Disadvantage on an enemy’s next Attack Roll.
  • Heavy Crossbow – Can be used to push enemies away from you, potentially knocking them off a high ledge for extra falling damage.

Skill: Human Ancestry

You can choose a different option here if you want.

  • Stealth – You are harder to detect when sneaking around.

Languages

You can pick whatever you want here. Just try to have as many of them covered by your party as possible.

Commander Fighter Build Best Equipment

In this section, we will list the best equipment for the Commander Fighter in Solasta II, including how to obtain each item.

In the current early-access version, crafting hasn’t been implemented yet, and the amount of equipment you can loot is quite limited.

I recommend working towards obtaining a hard-hitting melee weapon early in the game, such as a solasta 2 greataxe Greataxe. You can buy them from weapon merchants in town, or wait to loot one from an enemy. This is the best way to increase your average damage output in the current early access version of Solasta 2.

Furthermore, ensure you have a good ranged weapon like a solasta 2 heavy crossbow Heavy Crossbow and a decent set of medium or heavy armour (a minimum of 16 Solasta 2 Armour Class icon Armour Class is essential).

Look out for other drops to further improve your weapon attack damage. For example, the solasta 2 poisonous amulet Poisonous Amulet adds 1d4 Solasta 2 poison damage icon Poison Damage to your first attack each turn.

Commander Fighter Tips & Tricks

Solasta 2 rousing shout icon Rousing Shout is by far the most important aspect of the Commander subclass in Solasta 2’s early access. With this build, it can be used 3 times per Short Rest and it makes the next Attack Roll of all nearby party members much more likely to hit, including your own.

Remember to use it at the start of your turn when fighting a tough enemy. Don’t be shy to use it several turns in a row if needed.

In addition, use your Solasta 2 action surge icon Action Surge to get an extra burst of damage when you need to quickly bring down a troublesome enemy.
