Magicka Dragonknight Maelstrom Beginner Build

Here I am going to explain the setup you want to run with when you are going to attempt veteran Maelstrom Arena the first time. I highly do recommend reading the Introduction page for veteran Maelstrom Arena where I rank the difficulty of each class! The Build is adjusted for 300 Championpoints.

Magicka Dragonknights do not have an easy time in Maelstrom arena. It is still easier as with stamina characters. Magicka Dragonknights need to be in melee to apply their Damage over Time abilities, which means they will get hit more then certain other setups. You could kite everything, but you will only deal mediocre damage compared to a magicka Sorcerer or Nightblade. The way you are healing is also different compared to the other setups. You do have burning embers which forces you to stay in melee, more or less. Coagulating blood is more of a heal that you only want to use when you can not reapply Burning Embers to get the huge healing tick.

Skills

  • Harness Magicka: This is your most important skill, under no circumstances are you allowed to drop your shield during fights! The incoming damage is huge and this is literally the only way that you can survive big hits.
  • Crushing Shock vs Force Pulse: Crushing shock is way better in Maelstrom Arena, as it interrupts a lot of targets while they are casting something at you. It is a lifesaver! Be careful on stage 7 Argonian Behemoth boss. If you interrupt him while he is screaming, he will be enraged and oneshot you with whatever he hits you next. Make sure to either heavy attack or reapply DoTs on the boss only during that phase.
  • Why Molten Armaments? This allows you to run normal cheap Magicka Potions as it provides you with the Spelldamage 20% buff. I also recommend doing a lot of heavy attack as they restore magicka. In addition you also hit 40% harder with heavy attacks when you use this skill. It is easy to keep up as it has a 40 seconds duration. If you are using Spellpower Potions you do not necessarily need this skill. You could replace it with something else like Volatile armor to gain more resistances

Burning Embers & Coagulating Blood: Those are your two main heals. If you apply Burning Embers to an enemy and you reapply it again to gain insanely much health back. If you do not need Coagulating Blood, you can swap it out for Dragon Fire Scales to gain some more offensive/defensive skills. Coagulating blood is also insanely strong, it basically put you back at full health from whatever health you currently have.
