Best Sorcerer Builds – Baldur’s Gate 3

Welcome to our BG3 Sorcerer Builds category. Here, you can find the best Sorcerer Builds for Baldur’s Gate 3. We have builds for all Sorcerer subclasses in the game.

Draconic Bloodline Sorcerer Build

Your veins carry draconic magic, the result of a powerful dragon ancestor.

Draconic Bloodline Sorcerers gain a +3 bonus to their Armour Class when they’re not wearing armour, thanks to their scaly skin. They also get an extra 1 HP per level, up to a maximum of 12 extra HP at Level 12.

With the BG3 Draconic Sorcerer Build, you can choose a specific draconic ancestry, and your choice will have a couple of effects on your character:

  • You will immediately unlock an extra spell based on your choice
  • At Level 6, you gain an affinity with the element associated with your draconic bloodline (for example, Fire from the Red, Gold and Brass Bloodlines). You become Resistant to that element, and your spells that deal that type of damage become more powerful (your Charisma Modifier is added to the damage).

Finally, at Level 11, Draconic Bloodline Sorcerers gain the ability to Fly.

Shadow Magic Sorcerer Build

With the BG3 Shadow Magic Sorcerer Build, you deal in a form of magic that makes you deadliest in darkness.

This subclass gives its sorcerer Superior Darkvision, as well as the ability to Shadow Walk between places of dim light or darkness. It also lets you call forth the perfectly homebrewed Hound of Ill Omen to harass your foes, and use Strength of the Grave to prevent you from being downed.

The Hound of Ill Omen spawns weaker shades of itself when attacked, creating a group of shadow hounds that make for great protection for your Sorcerer.

Storm Sorcerer Build

The BG3 Storm Sorcerer Build gains additional mobility by riding localised winds created by their magic, and can deal extra Lightning and Thunder damage when casting spells that deal in these elements.

They can fly up to 9 metres using a Bonus Action after casting any spell on their turn (not a Cantrip). This flight also ignores enemy Opportunist Attacks.

At Level 6, they become Resistant to Lightning and Thunder damage, and whenever they deal Lightning or Thunder damage with a spell, nearby enemies take the same type of damage as a bonus, equal to half of your Sorcerer Level. You also unlock some storm-related spells, most notably Thunderwave and the powerful Call Lightning.

At Level 11, you can retaliate against melee attackers with Thunder that damages them and potentially pushes them away.

Wild Magic Sorcerer Build

The BG3 Wild Magic Sorcerer Build‘s magic is more chaotic than that of other spellcasters, and every time they cast a spell, there is a chance for a random effect to occur. These effects are usually positive or at least amusing, but sometimes they can be detrimental.

Once per Short Rest, Wild Magic Sorcerers can activate Tides of Chaos to gain Advantage on their next Attack Roll, Ability Check or Saving Throw – with the side-effect of increasing the likelihood of Wild Magic Surges.

When you reach Level 11, you can use your Reaction to direct a Wild Magic surge to enemy spellcasters whenever they cast a spell – this can cause complete chaos and can also be very fun. No two fights will ever be quite the same when you have a Wild Magic Sorcerer in your party.
