Best Rogue Builds – Baldur’s Gate 3

Welcome to our BG3 Rogue Builds category. Here you can find the best Rogue Builds for Baldur’s Gate 3. We have builds for all Rogue subclasses in the game, as well as builds for Astarion and the Dark Urge.

Arcane Trickster Build

As quick with a spell as you are with a lockpick, your illusions and enchantments keep opponents on the back foot.

The BG3 Arcane Trickster Build grants you some basic spellcasting ability. You gain access to the Wizard Spell List, but only up to the second level, meaning the most powerful spells won’t be available.

The Arcane Trickster casts spells with Intelligence, so you’ll need to keep this in mind during character creation if you use this subclass.

While its spellcasting ability isn’t especially strong, the Arcane Trickster can (from Level 9) impose Disadvantage on enemy Saving Throws against spells they cast while Hiding.

Assassin Build

The BG3 Assassin Build is highly effective on the first turn of combat, especially when ambushing an enemy from stealth. Assassins immediately recover their Action and Bonus Action at the beginning of a battle, which means you can initiate combat with a powerful stealth attack without losing the ability to make another attack on your first turn.

They have Advantage when attacking any creatures that haven’t taken a turn yet, and have a guaranteed Critical Hit roll against Surprised foes. You can surprise enemies by sneaking up and attacking them (melee attacks are the best way to go here, as shooting them from a distance causes them to frantically search for your location, and they won’t get Surprised when they find you).

Assassins are the weakest type of Rogue in a fair fight, so make sure you don’t play fair! Think outside the box and look for ways to get the jump on your foes.

Swashbuckler Build

The BG3 Swashbuckler Build introduces a range of new actions fit for the piratical life.

Play dirty by tossing sand at enemies to Blind them. Flick your weapon at a target to Disarm them. Or use your new Fancy Footwork passive while meleeing your enemy to ensure they can’t make opportunity attacks against you for the rest of your turn.

The most notable part of the Swashbuckler is that it allows you to use melee Sneak Attacks even when you aren’t sneaking; as long as you don’t roll with Disadvantage, you can use your Rakish Sneak Attack.

This allows you to easily deal massive amounts of stealth damage in almost every situation, making the Rogue not only accessible for players who don’t like to stealth, but also making this arguably the best subclass in the entire game.

Thief Build

Your quick hands and mastery of the larcenous arts make stealing second nature – be it from a third-floor window or a forgotten ruin.

As its name suggests, the BG3 Thief Build is the version of the Rogue that is most adept at stealing things without being noticed. At Level 9, they gain the ability to turn invisible at will using Supreme Sneak.

The most important aspect of the Thief is that they gain an extra Bonus Action at Level 3, which can be used in a variety of ways. One option is to make an additional off-hand attack on your turn, but you can spend it on any other Bonus Action. This is a great synergy with the Rogue’s Cunning Actions, which allow you to Dash, Disengage or Hide using a Bonus Action instead of an Action.

This might not sound like a big deal, but when you try it out, you’ll quickly realise that it’s a great boost to mobility and utility. The Thief can run rings around most enemies, getting in a cheap shot and then retreating into the shadows until their next turn.

Astarion Build

Our BG3 Astarion Build will ensure you get the most out of the Pale Elf on his quest for vengeance and freedom.

Dark Urge Build

While the default class of the Dark Urge is a Sorcerer, we found the Rogue class to be a great fit for them, too.

In our BG3 Dark Urge Build, we use the new Swashbuckler subclass to transform the Dark Urge into the melee killing machine they are meant to be.
