Welcome to our Holy Paladin Build for Throne and Liberty. With this Tank Build, we will be using the combination of the Sword & Shield and Wand & Tome weapons to protect, support and heal allies in TL. Please keep in mind that there isn’t a specific Paladin class in Throne and Liberty. However, with the right weapons and skills, we can get very close to an actual Paladin Build.

Note: This build is a work in progress until the launch of the NA/EU servers. The Korean devs are still changing a lot of balancing aspects on the Korean Servers at the moment with every patch.

Holy Paladin Build Setup for Throne and Liberty

In this section, we will explain the important components of the build, such as stats, passives, skills and equipment of the Paladin Tank Build for Throne and Liberty.

Holy Paladin Tank Build Sword & Shield Throne & Liberty TL

Weapons Main vs Off-hand

  • Main-hand: Sword & Shield
  • Off-hand: Wand & Tome

Our main hand weapon is the Sword & Shield, and our off-hand weapon is the Wand & Tome. Make sure to remember that your off-hand passives stay active even if you are using your Sword & Shield skills.

Stats

The most important stats for the Holy Paladin Build are Strength, used to improve your melee damage, HP and Damage Resistance, along with Wisdom, which increases your Maximum Mana, Mana Recovery and Cooldown Reduction.

  • 34 Strength
  • 20 Dexterity
  • 21 Wisdom
  • 10 Perception

Defense Skill

Each build in Throne and Liberty can slot one defense skill. Because we are using a Sword & Shield and a Wand & Tome we can decide between two skills:

For our Paladin Tank Build we want to select the Shield Survival Technique to increase our defensive capabilities. This allows us to restore Health and increase damage mitigation. Additionally, it also provides us with a Shield that absorbs damage for us for a short time.

Skills

Below are explanations of the skills we are using for this Throne and Liberty Paladin Build. We are using a good mix of Sword & Shield and Wand & Tome Skills to both stand our ground easily against tough enemies and also be able to heal ourselves and our allies when needed.

Strike Shield Sword Shield Attack TL    Drastic Charge Sword Shield Attack TL    Counter Barrier Sword Shield Attack TL    Chain Hook Sword Shield Attack TL    Provoking Roar Sword Shield Attack TL    Fortress Sword Shield Attack TL    Fierce Clash Skill Sword Shield TL    Swift Healing Skill Wand Tome TL    Cursed Nightmare Skill Wand Tome TL    Clay's Salvation Skill Wand Tome TL    Blessed Barrier Skill Wand Tome TL    Karmic Haze Skill Wand Tome TL

Sword & Shield Skills

  • Strike Shield – Deals high damage and inflicts Weaken with a high chance for a few seconds. Also increases Heavy Attack Chance when Shield Block Chance increases.
  • Strategic Rush – Charge forward and deal damage to up to 5 targets, with a high chance to inflict Push.
  • Counter Barrier – For 9 seconds, increase Shield Block Chance by a lot. Successfully evading a melee attack or performing a shield block causes you to make a counterattack.
  • Chain Hook – High chance to pull a target to you and reduce its Movement Speed. Using it on a monster will pull you to the monster instead.
  • Provoking Roar – High chance of taunting all enemies within a small radius, forcing them to direct all of their Attacks against you.
  • Fortress – Grants damage reduction to you and your party members within 10 metres, stays on even if you move out of the circle for a while.
  • Fierce Clash – Deal damage to the target, with a high chance to push them. Can also push enemies who collide with the target.

Wand & Tome Skills

  • Swift Healing – Restore a friendly target’s health.
  • Cursed Nightmare – High chance to reduce the target’s Movement and Attack Speed, and inflict Curse: Sleep on them for a few seconds. If the Sleeping target is hit, the attack becomes a Critical Hit and Sleeping is removed.
  • Clay’s Salvation – Restores the Health of all party members within range. Long cooldown.
  • Blessed Barrier – Increases Melee, Ranged and Magic Defense by a lot. Incoming healing is also hugely increased. Endurance as well at night.
  • Karmic Haze – Spreads the active curse from the target to up to three additional targets within a 5-metre range, with a high chance.

Passives

Below are explanations of the passives, including how they can synergize with other passives and skills. The order of how you slot the passives for your Throne and Liberty Tank build doesn’t matter.

Experienced Evasion passive Sword Shield Skill TL    Resilient Mind passive Sword Shield Skill TL    Aegis Shield passive Sword Shield Skill TL    Spectrum of Agony passive Sword Shield Skill TL    Gerad's Patience passive Sword Shield Skill TL    Impenetrable passive Sword Shield Skill TL    Morale Boost passive Sword Shield Skill TL    Flawless Spirit Selfless soul passive Wand Tome Skill TL

Sword & Shield Passives

  • Experienced Evasion – Your Ranged and Magic Evasion are increased the closer you are to your attacker.
  • Resilient Mind – Evading an attack restores Mana. Blocking an attack restores Mana equal to 18.2% of the damage blocked.
  • Aegis Shield – Increases Defence for every 1% of Shield Block Chance.
  • Spectrum of Agony – Whenever you successfully damage a Provoked target, you increase the Provoke duration by 0.4 seconds and deal damage to other Provoked targets.
  • Gerad’s Patience – Each successful dodge or shield block increases all CC Resistance by 12.75 for 3 seconds. Stacks up to 10 times.
  • Impenetrable – Increases Melee, Ranged, and Magic Defense based on the number of enemies within a 9m radius. Increases Melee, Ranged, and Magic Defense by 299 if there are 2 or fewer enemies within range, by 400 if there are 3 to 6 enemies, and by 820 if there are 7 or more enemies.
  • Morale Boost – Colliding the target with another decreases the remaining cooldown of all skills by 20%. Each subsequent collision in the chain reduces remaining cooldown of skills by an additional 4.5%.

Wand & Tome Passives

  • Selfless Soul – Increases Mana Regen by 23.4 and Skill Heal by 5.1% per stack for 3s when you cast a Buff with Used Skills to an allied target. Stacks up to 10 times.

Skills and Passives Upgrade Priority

Upgrading Skills and Passives in the right order will make combat a lot easier in Throne and Liberty. However, it also takes quite a long time because you need so-called “Growth Stones” to upgrade and the higher quality ones are difficult to get. Therefore it is important to plan ahead which skills you want to upgrade first.

Note: You unlock higher level skills already in a higher quality such as Rare or Epic. So you won’t have to upgrade all of the Skills.

We are going to focus on skills first that increase our defensive capabilities for the Throne and Liberty Tank Build. Follow this as closely as possible. However, you can make detours and it won’t affect the build much. In the end, you will max out all Skills anyway.

How to Play the Holy Paladin Build in TL

Now that we have explained how to create the Holy Paladin Tank build, we will cover the best ways to play the build to get the best out of it, including combos and general tips.

Holy Paladin Build Defense and Healing

With our Paladin Build we want to take aggro of enemies but we also want to be able to provide heals from time to time. It is key to learn how to correctly use your Shield Survival Technique to block attacks, and if you block a Fury attack you even get a shield to bolster incoming damage.

Our Counter Barrier increases Shield Block Chance a lot and once upgraded the cooldown is also shortened. Fortress is another great skill that applies Damage Reduction for yourself and your allies. However, it has a long cooldown. Only use this when you need it.

You also might have noticed that most of our passives are from the Sword & Shield skill line, this is because we want to be as tanky as possible. We can still easily heal with our active Skills such as Clay’s Salvation or Swift Healing.

Holy Paladin Build Rotation

Tank builds don’t have a real rotation, you need to react to whatever comes at you accordingly. The main important takeaway is that you use the defense Skill Shield Survival Technique when an enemy hits you with a Fury attack to restore health and gain a Magic Shield to absorb Health. Also don’t immediately trigger all your Skills, make sure to have the high cooldown Skills available when you are in a tricky situation.

Holy Paladin Tips & Tricks

  • Don’t focus too much on gear early on. Gear farming only becomes important after you hit max level.
  • Get equipment that gives you extra Max Health, Endurance or Evasion.
  • Always keep track of your cooldowns, especially on the high cooldown Skills.
