Introduction

Welcome to the Magicka Nightblade Build “Azure” for Elder Scrolls Online. Make sure to bookmark the link as I will keep updating the build for each new Update of ESO. This Magicka Nightblade Build is made for Trials, Dungeons and Maelstrom.

With Morrowind Magicka Nightblades received some significant buffs to some skills, which helps them a lot in terms of more DPS, which was always kind of lackluster compared to other setups, not anymore! The change of Merciless Resolve and the buff to Twisting Path helped tremendously. Magicka Nightblades also have really strong Light Attacks, which also got a buff in terms of extra damage. Nightblades also have great ultimate generation due to Soul Harvest and the Catalyst passive, which is especially great in trashfights!

  • High single target (ST) damage
  • Good ranged & melee damage
  • Crazy area of effect (AoE) damage
  • Crazy ultimate generation
  • Good sustain
  • Easy survivability due to magicka shield
  • Trials, Dungeons and Maelstrom!

Resource Management

Resource Management is a huge part of this patch. Magicka Nightblades kind of have good sustain, you only need to use a few tweaks to get sustain. Here I want to explain to you what you can do to improve your sustain, so in the end you kind of can find your own “sweetspot” for sustain and adjust it if needed. Siphoning Attacks is a must have for every Magicka Nightblade build and it should be reapplied once it runs out. Another must have this patch is the “Drain Magicka Poisons”, they help tremendously with sustain. In the Important Info section you will see how to craft them. They give you about 240 Magicka per second over 5,5 seconds, thats insane! Now the last big thing that you can choose on your own to tweak your sustain, Magicka Recovery Glyphs. I felt I reached good sustain when i used one Magicka Recovery Glyph. However, if you think your sustain is still not where you would like it to be, then use a second Magicka Recovery Glyph and then you should difinitely be good to go. Heavy Attacks are also a great tool to restore resources, while we not really need them for this build, if you really get into a situation where you dry out, use one or two heavy attacks!

    • Siphoning Attacks
    • Magicka Drain Poisons
    • Magicka Recovery Glyphs
    • Heavy Attacks
    • Witchmothers Brew

Gear

Magicka Nightblades have some really good set combos. Scathing and Master Architect are both really strong for Magicka Nightblades. To begin with, I highly recommend using Scathing Mage as it is probably the best set for most of the situations. Master Architect only becomes really strong when you have pure Single Target fights where we can utilize Soul Harvest instead of a Destro Ultimate. Soul Harvest should only be used in Single Target fights. When there are adds, then you need to use Destro Ultimate otherwise you loose too much AoE damage and the adds will not die and probably kill your group.

Gear Best in Slot – 5x Scathing 2x Monster Set, 3x Moondancer, 1x Maelstrom

  • No Sharpened Maelstrom Staff? You could use a Moondancer sharpened staff instead.
  • Precise Maelstrom Staff? If you do have a precise Maelstrom Staff, you can use it just make sure to put like 20 more points into Spell Erosion to make up for the loss of penetration from sharpened.
  • No Moondancer Staff? In case you do not have a Moondancer Staff, use a random sharpened staff. It is the next best solution and you barely loose any damage.
  • No Scathing? You can also use Julianos or Burning Spellweave, both of them are easier farmable.

Weapon 2 Maelstrom Fire Sharpened Maelstrom Enchant
  • Scathing Mage vs Master Architect: When you can focus on pure Single Target damage, then Master Architect is a really good choice, because you do about the same DPS as with scathing, but you also give two friendly group members Major Slayer buff, which will boost their damage and help with overall group DPS! Just make sure to use Soul Harvest as your main Ultimate then.

Gear alt 5x Scathing 5x Master Architect, 1x Monster Set, 1x Maelstrom

  • Scathing Mage & Master Architect: This is another viable option that you can choose, backbar Master Architect and use Soulharvest for most of your Bossfights, that way you get the extra 15% damage from Major Slayer and you also can keep the Scathing Mage proc, you will loose the two piece bonus from the Monster set, but that is not that big of a deal.
  • No Maelstrom Staff? If you do not have a Maelstrom Staff, you can also use either a Scathing Mage, Master Architect, or just a Random sharpened staff.
  • Maelstrom Weapon: Make sure to put Blockade of Elements where your Maelstrom staff is, otherwise you will not gain the extra Light Attack damage.

Gear Beginner

This setup is dedicated to people that have not had the chance to farm the necessary gear or are not at the maximum Championpoints amount yet. All the gear here is either craftable or cheap to get in a guildstore. Make sure to ask a friend to craft Seducer and Julianos gear for you. I do recommend that you are aiming for 17k health. To achieve this you can buy one or two Willpower rings with a healthy trait. You could also use Twice Born Star instead of Seducer.

Where can I get the gear?

Scathing Mage: Imperial City Prison
Master Architect: Halls of Fabrication
Seducer: Craftable
Moondancer: Maw of Lorkhaj
Valkyn Skoria: City of Ash 2
Grothdarr: Vaults of Madness
Julianos: Craftable
Willpower: Imperial City Vaults, Guildstore
Maelstrom Staff: vMaelstrom Arena

Skills

  • Why this particular allocation of skills? I found this to be the most practical setup, as we can barswap every 8 seconds to our backbar and reapply both DoTs (Elemental Blockade, Crippling Grasp & Twisting Path) and then immediately barswap again and keep using Swallow Soul etc.
  • Aoe spammable? We are applying all our AoE DoTs on the enemies and then we use Shock Heavy attacks for AoE Damage, this is the most powerful tool and it also restores magicka!

Skills

There is not a lot of changes to the skills itself, the only thing I did was move Harness Magicka to the frontbar, as you wan to keep the shield up all the time to not get any damage to your health. If you are new to Maelstrom arena I highly recommend checking out my Beginner Setup for Magicka Nightblade in Maelstrom Arena.

We also swapped out Crippling Grasp for Elemental Drain, most mobs die too fast anyway so the extra DoT is just a waste of time to cast and we need the extra effects from Elemental Drain.

As you can see, other than that there are not more changes needed, as Nightblades have very good burst damage with a Destro Ultimate, just remember to keep your shield up all the time!
