Introduction

Welcome to the Magicka Nightblade Build PvE “Azure” for Elder Scrolls Online. Make sure to bookmark the link as I will keep updating the build for each new Update of ESO. This Magicka Nightblade Build is made for Trials, Dungeons and Maelstrom.

Magicka Nightblades have one of the best sustained setups due to their cheap spammable skill Funnel Health/Swallow Soul. Nightblades also have great ultimate generation due to Soul Harvest and the Catalyst passive, which is especially great in trashfights as they can dish out Ultimates twice as fast as other classes.

  • High single target (ST) damage
  • Good ranged & melee damage
  • Crazy area of effect (AoE) damage
  • Crazy ultimate generation
  • Good sustain
  • Easy survivability due to magicka shield
  • Trials, Dungeons and Maelstrom!

Resource Management

Resource Management is a huge part of this patch. Magicka Nightblades kind of have good sustain, you only need to use a few tweaks to get sustain. Here I want to explain to you what you can do to improve your sustain, so in the end you kind of can find your own “sweetspot” for sustain and adjust it if needed. Siphoning Attacks is a must have for every Magicka Nightblade build and it should be reapplied once it runs out. You can also run a Magicka Drain Enchantment on one of your weapons if you want. Now the last big thing that you can choose on your own to tweak your sustain, Magicka Recovery Glyphs. I felt I reached good sustain when i used one Magicka Recovery Glyph. However, if you think your sustain is still not where you would like it to be, then use a second Magicka Recovery Glyph and then you should difinitely be good to go. Heavy Attacks are also a great tool to restore resources, while we not really need them for this build, if you really get into a situation where you dry out, use one or two heavy attacks!

    • Siphoning Attacks
    • Magicka Drain Enchantment
    • Magicka Recovery Glyphs
    • Heavy Attacks
    • Witchmothers Brew

Trials & Dungeons Setup

Gear

  • Setup 1 vs Setup 2: Setup 1 is slightly stronger as you will get overall higher Light and Heavy Attack damage due to Maelstrom Staff. Difference is really small tho.
  • Monster Set? You can also run a full Monster set if you want.

Skills

  • Why this particular allocation of skills? I found this to be the most practical setup, as we can barswap every 8 seconds to our backbar and reapply both DoTs (Elemental Blockade, Crippling Grasp & Twisting Path) and then immediately barswap again and keep using Swallow Soul.
  • Aoe spammable? We are applying all our AoE DoTs on the enemies and then we use Shock Heavy attacks for AoE Damage, this is the most powerful tool and it also restores magicka!
  • Soul Harvest: We have this on the backbar because it will give us a lot of extra Ultimate Points when we kill Trashmobs on our AoE bar.

Poisons

Drain Magicka Poison (Not mandatory)
(Lady Smock & Columbine) or (Cornflower & Columbine) or (Bugloss & Cornflower)

Drain Magicka Poison

Passives

You will need the following passives:
Assassination, Shadow, Siphoning, Light Armor, Heavy Armor (Juggernaut passive), Destruction Staff, Fighters Guild, Racial, Vampire, Mages Guild: Might of the Guild, Undaunted, Alchemy: Medicinal Use

I highly recommend being a Vampire for the extra 10% Magicka and Stamina recovery!

Rotation

The Rotation itself is kind of split in two parts. We have the backbar which is always fix as you can see. You always want to swap to the backbar about 1-2 seconds before your Elemental Blockade runs out, so I recommend tracking the Elemental Blockade DoT or Crippling Grasp DoT. Means you know when its about to run out you can go to your backbar and reapply all the DoTs.

Elemental Blockade > Light Attack > Crippling Grasp > Light Attack > Twisting Patch > Weapon Swap

Frontbar is a little bit more difficult. I reapply the Merciless Resolve after I shot the Spectral bow twice. Apply Siphoning Attack on cooldown as well. If you have to do nothing else then keep weaving Light Attacks and Funnel Health/Swallow Soul.

From 25% and less you want to make sure to keep up all the DoTs but use Impale instead of Funnel Health/ Swallow Soul.

Maelstrom Arena

Gear

The only thing that really changes is, that we are using a Sharpened Staff on the frontbar, to get as close to the penetration cap as possible. With Sharpened Staff and our setup, we should get about 16979 Penetration.

Gear Set Weight Trait Enchantment
Chest Julianos Heavy Divine Magicka
Belt Julianos Light Divine Magicka
Shoes Julianos Light Divine Magicka
Pants Julianos Medium Divine Magicka
Hands Julianos Light Divine Magicka
Head Infallible Mage Light Divine Magicka
Shoulder Molag Kena Light Divine Magicka
Necklace Infallible Mage Jewelry Arcane Spell Dmg
Ring Infallible Mage Jewelry Arcane Spell Dmg
Ring Infallible Mage Jewelry Arcane Spell Dmg
Weapon 1 Infallible Mage Fire Infused Fire/ Shock Enchant
Weapon 2 Maelstrom Staff Shock Infused/ Precise Maelstrom Enchant

Skills

There is not a lot of changes to the skills itself, the only thing I did was move Harness Magicka to the frontbar, as you wan to keep the shield up all the time to not get any damage to your health. If you are new to Maelstrom arena I highly recommend checking out my Beginner Setup for Magicka Nightblade in Maelstrom Arena.

We also swapped out Crippling Grasp for Elemental Drain, most mobs die too fast anyway so the extra DoT is just a waste of time to cast and we need the extra effects from Elemental Drain.

As you can see, other than that there are not more changes needed, as Nightblades have very good burst damage with a Destro Ultimate, just remember to keep your shield up all the time!
